Bzzrrt! If I may chime in for a second, why do I smell sandalwood? Is it possible there could be... No! Of course not! Not at this time of year, and certainly not so many feet below us! Unless... – The Ship, upon discovering Autummal Undergrowth

Autummal Undergrowth is the second cave in the Windswept Wonderland in Pikmin: Shipwrecked Stargazers. It is a full-on tribute to the Twilight River in Pikmin 3, being based in a subterranean forest perpetually stuck in the autumn season. Light is attained by the forest through a sheet of strange, geode-like formations on the ceiling that glow like the sun. The boss of this cave happens to be a miniboss from the Twilight River as well, albeit larger.

How to reach

Near where the Improvised Snowball is located, there is a passageway blocked off by a few gas pipes. White Pikmin must be used to destroy these pipes. An electric gate is beyond it that Yellow Pikmin must destroy. The path leads to a plateau with a single Mamuta on it, and a tree stump with a curved slope pathway leading up to the cave's entrance on top of it.

Sublevel 1

It is still too snowy for the cave's true motif to show. The ceiling of this sublevel is made of a glass-like mineral, allowing for sunlight to seep in. The holly surrounding the playing field and small snowmen bring to mind the Distant Tundra. The ever-unreal Polypous Prowler lives near the center of the area, where a small pond with a tree stump in the center. This stump has the hole to the next sublevel in its center and must be reached via a raft. This introduces the squad to a gimmick that will be fully realized by Grimy Resevoir. Yellow Wollywogs, Male Sheargrubs, and Whiptongue Bulborbs are also found in this sublevel. The Explorer's Tomb is behind a barrier of Bristly Tackgrowths Rock Pikmin must destroy. The Mouse Loaf is out in the open, completely unguarded and ripe for the picking.

Sublevel 2

A transitional area located within the stump. shaggy brackets can be found on the walls, and the enemies are largely an afterthought when traversing this sublevel. The only enemy of concern is the Sicklemore Saplion, which Rock Pikmin can counter. A barrier of fungi leads to an area with some raised land that the other leader and some Pikmin can be thrown on. The other leader then must throw the Pikmin to a particularly large shaggy bracket to grab the Draconic Rhizome from it. An Iridescent Flint Beetle can be used to get nectar for the Pikmin. The hole deeper is in a small alcove.

Sublevel 3

Exiting a small hollow at the base of the desiccated tree, the cavernous forest opens up. It isn't too large, but it feels much less claustrophobic compared to previous sublevels. The Empathetic Tucker is buried in the soil by its stem, so shallow that even a single Pikmin can instantly uproot it, though it requires three to carry. A pair of elevator blocks are also on this sublevel. One leader must stand on the lowered one while the other throws Pikmin onto the raised elevator to get them onto solid ground. The Reverbiating Monument is on this layer, guarded by some Shearwigs. On the ground floor are some Dwarf Orange Bulborbs, Desiccated Skitter Leaves, a Suckerpunch Blowhog, and the unique Amethyst Urophibian. This enemy is like other members of the boroloop family but uses poison as its hazard.

Sublevel 4

A pool of water in a vague peanut shape is on this sublevel enshrouded in a dark, navy blue mist. The squad starts on the southwestern shoreline, with a massive tree stump next to them that can not be accessed as of yet. Take a lily pad to reach the northeastern or northwestern shores. The former leads up to a massive plateau-like tree stump with a Calcified Crushblat on it. Use the Rock Pikmin to defeat it and it will drop the Opalescent Slab. Nearby fragments can be used to reach the previous stump overlooking the landing site, where the Bumpkin Gourd can be collected and the next hole can be entered. The Diver Scamprat lives on the northwestern shore. It will dive into the water to eat Puckering Blinnows, and if defeated, it will drop two dollops of ultra-spicy nectar.

Sublevel 5

This serene rest sublevel has some Dreidel Beetles to test one's luck with, and a Nectarous Dandelfly for a safer option. Unlike most rest sublevels, this one has a treasure in the form of the Dinky Drive, buried right on the boundaries of the playing field like the Scorch Guard from Pikmin 3. Small, firefly-like lights float about on this sublevel, but can not be interacted with. The hole deeper is in the northeastern area.

Sublevel 6

On top of a bed of fallen pine needles lie some valuable produce guarded by enemies. The Timpani-Foot Kettlebug holds the Blemished Luxury, but be careful of its appetite, stomping feet, and irritating, blood-like expellants. The trench in the center is home to a Mockiwi that doesn't take kindly to intruders. The Tactical Bulberret is a crafty creature that will use the nectar eggs to heal itself, and Dwarf Orange Bulborbs are everywhere. The Bulbous Boomerang is on a tree stump that any Pikmin can reach, while the Pasta Melon is behind a cardboard box, in a chamber with the Orange Bulborb.

Sublevel 7

The squad touches down on a tree stump, disturbing a few Skitter Leaves while doing so. A paper bag must be pushed to make it a slope, leading to a massive arena decorated with ginkgo leaves. The Burrowing Snagret lives here. Be wary, as it is larger than others of its kind and has multiple new tactics. When defeated, it drops the Influenza Counter, a wash rag that grants the Napsack ability. Don't pass up the Gobble Buddy on the way out; it's on the border of the playing field.
