Reflecting Shinestools are a species of commush appearing in Pikmin: Neo. They are large mushrooms with a flat, chrome-colored cap tilted at various angles to absorb what little light is present in the underground caves where they grow. As they can only absorb a limited amount of light, Reflecting Shinestools secrete a protective enzyme that redirects light elsewhere depending on the angle of the cap. The cap of a Reflecting Shinestool can also redirect other forms of energy such as beams of fire, ice, and magnetic energy. Due to this, they can be used in conjunction with prisms to overcome obstacles and clear a path forward.

“As my journeys to these underground ecosystems go on, I have found stranger and stranger flora and fauna. This fungus, for example, must grow a crystalline substance in its cap to absorb as much light as it can to produce nutrients. In rare occasions where too much light is directed at it, the fungus has been shown to reflect this energy like a mirror to avoid overloading on nutrients.”
