The Patchy Bulboar is a species of grub-hog appearing in Pikmin: Neo as the mature form of the Lesser Patchy Bulboar. It is a large beast with a tapered snout that has a pair of small tusks jutting out from either side and bristly brown hairs underneath. Its hide is magenta and contains deep crimson patches that are unique to each individual. It also has floppy square ears that fold in on themselves while the creature is sleeping. Finally, its feet consist of a brown pair of cloven hooves. During the day, the Patchy Bulboar sleeps in its territory, its young close beside, awakening slowly when disturbed or hearing a loud noise or immediately upon hearing its child screaming for help. Afterward, it licks its children clean, healing them of any wounds. At night, the Patchy Bulboar ventures out to patrol a small area for prey. After doing so, it uses its tusks to slay said prey and then carries them to its den to feed its children, healing them in the process. If it encounters something bigger than itself, it growls and stomps its feet into the ground to intimidate them. Should that fail, it quickly returns to its den to lead its children to a safer area to sleep. It gladly assists fellow Patchy Bulboars it encounters in their hunt, helping them patrol their territory and sharing spoils. Despite assisting its kin, it has a hostile reaction to other grub-hogs, intimidating them into leaving the area, or if that fails, fighting them. Fights between two members of the grub-hog family are rare but can prove to be fatal. These creatures love to eat a variety of foods, such as meat, plants, eggs, and even mushrooms. They aren't picky, although they do prefer to scavenge for food rather than hunt for it. Only standard attacking strategies are needed to fight this beast.

Notes

Olimar's notes

While traveling on this strange new planet, I encountered this familiar-looking but distinct beast. While it indeed has a similar build and behavior to a bulborb, it is part of a separate family. While the bulborb is related more to canines, the bulboar is related more to swine. It also has a more omnivorous lifestyle contrasting the bulborbs' carnivorous diet. Until further study, I shall create two separate families for these two distinct groups of creatures.

Louie's notes

Shave the skin and tenderize it heavily, then smother the hide in sweet spices and fry for an hour. The result is a delicious slab of pork bacon.
