The Flashstool is a species of sporovid appearing in Pikmin: Neo. They are thin, light blue mushrooms with glowing eyestalks. Like all members of the sporovid family, this species dwells in damp, dark areas, typically underground. Usually, it is alone, absorbing nutrients from its surroundings while various wildlife eats peacefully nearby it. When it wants to change territories, it releases harmless glowing spores containing a pheromone that causes all nearby animals to scatter away in panic. Afterward, the Flashstool wanders about until it establishes a suitable location as its own by tripping over and then rooting itself into the ground. While rooted into the ground, plants such as spiderworts and Pellet Posies won't grow, and any nearby corpses will be absorbed by the Flashstool, causing it to grow, and increasing its total health. As such, it should be interfered with only to gather the resources in its habitat. This sporovid can quickly close its cap over its legs to eat any nearby Pikmin, like the Spotstool, healing the creature. Like all members of the sporovid family, it is immune to being poisoned by eating White Pikmin. The opportune time to attack a Flashstool is while it is flipped over, although, during that time, the creature is enveloped by a lingering cloud of dimly lit spores that can flash at any time, making most Pikmin panic. Panicking Pikmin are prime prey for the Flashstool, as the creature moves and eats faster around them. Plasma Pikmin are extremely useful for defeating a Flashstool because they are immune to light-based attacks.

Notes

Olimar's notes

Recent discoveries have revealed that the sporovid family has split from a single member. Each member is adapted to live in a specific area. The Flashstool, for example, lives in damp caves, absorbing decaying matter. Due to absorbing methane alongside the nutrients, this sporovid has leaned to ignite its spores into a harmless flash of light. It uses this to escape from any predators that try to eat it.

Louie's notes

The meat (fruit?) is best served cold, to both preserve the signature glow and to prevent accidentally igniting your meal.
