Jars are a type of obstacle. They are cream-colored ceramic jars with a handle, a lid on top, and a few cracks near the base, and some are upside-down rather than downside-up. They block paths until destroyed, such as by a sufficient amount of blunt force, such as with Oatchi's rush, the explosion of a bomb rock, and even some enemy attacks. When one jar is destroyed, others immediately next to it will typically be destroyed as well.

Some jars contain objects, such as pellets and treasures, and even Pikmin within them, and any containing Pikmin shake periodically to indicate something is trapped within. Some jars may have a plant growing from the top, and upon destroying them, a large flower will pop out and can be used as a platform.

In Pikmin: Interstellar Cryptid, jars can only be destroyed by Roacher, and not even bomb rocks can break them. This renders some areas inaccessible until all night expeditions are cleared. The design of the jars may vary depending on the area, with each area and its caves having a unique design. Those in Touchdown Crater and Sweltering Field resemble the ones in Pikmin 4. Jars in Artisan Aqueduct are stouter, with a sgraffito design on them. The jars in Giant's Bald Spot have intricate geometric patterns. Finally, the ones in Plateau of Eternity are not jars at all, but rather woven baskets.
