In Pikmin: Adventure of Four, the Shadowy Progg serves as the fourth boss and is found at the bottom of the Cave of Shadows. The trail it leaves in its wake will kill any Pikmin but Black Pikmin upon contact. In order to defeat it, Black Pikmin must be thrown at its head. The Shadowy Progg will turn invisible every now and again, rendering it immune to all attacks. Defeating it will provide a hint of where the One is.

Attacks Melts Pikmin, causes panic

The Shadowy Progg is a mysterious creature in Pikmin: The Rising Darkness that is encountered only once, on the final sublevel of the Demon's Den, initially contained within a huge black egg. This creature is very similar in appearance to the Smoky Progg but is entirely black with ghostly grey eyes. Much like the Waterwraith, this creature is believed to be an interdimensional life form trapped in a state of existence in two dimensions. This creature baffles science, as only one instance has been recorded, which leaves two theories: it is either a mere psychic phenomenon caused by fear and unease, or it is an abundant species in another dimension and became trapped between two dimensions due to the Demon's Den's high levels of psychic energy.

Destroying the Shadowy Progg's egg releases the creature, prompting the fight. Pikmin that touch any part of the Shadowy Progg's body except for its head die instantly upon contact, and so will those that touch the shadow stretching from the creature. The creature periodically utters an unearthly roar that causes Pikmin to panic. Upon death, the Shadowy Progg yields the Impenetrable Armor, allowing leaders to become almost completely invincible for a brief period of time. This creature and its egg do not reappear after death, as they are replaced by a Smoky Progg and its egg in future visits.

Notes

Olimar's notes

The Shadowy Progg is one of the most bizarre life forms I have ever encountered on the Pikmin Planet. What at first appears to be a shadow is actually a living creature that resembles the Smoky Progg. Even more bizarre is that the Shadowy Progg is not detected by my radar... Could this creature's physical form be trapped in another dimension? As ludicrous as it is, the Demon's Den contains a large amount of psychic energy, which in theory would allow a gateway between two dimensions, thus allowing a life form such as the Shadowy Progg to exist. Investigation in Demon's Den is needed to support this theory fully.
