Appearance in Pikmin 1.
Scientific name | Binuclei siphonophorus
Family | Goolix |
The Goolix is a creature that, upon approaching its location, emerges from the ground. It resembles a blue amoeba with two nuclei, a blue one and a larger yellow one. It stretches around to engulf Pikmin that happen to be in its path and drowns them out with its aquatic properties. When under attack, the only threat the creature poses is flinging Pikmin from it, possibly causing them to lose their flowers or buds.

Attacks | Drowns Pikmin |
The Goolix appears in Pikmin Forever. It is encountered at Daybreak Glade and Luxuriant Lakeside, and in sublevel four of Surge Cave, sublevels two and five of Saturated Temple, and sublevel three of Ceramic Rift. They act cellular and try to form vesicles around Pikmin to engulf them in water. Their ensnaring arms can move faster than the Goolix itself, and the creatures themselves leave behind a trail of slime that is slippery to Pikmin. Attack either nucleus with Blue Pikmin to bring the beast down normally; it will dissolve, leaving behind no salvageable part. However, if a Goolix is simply led into an existing body of water, it will instantly dissolve into that water, leaving behind the larger nuclei that can be salvaged for 25 Pikmin! It contains no metal, however; it can only be brought to an Onion.
Notes
Olimar's notes
- “Perhaps one of the most primitive organisms in the ecosystem, this massive unicellular organism is in a constant struggle for homeostasis. Most specimens slowly feed along the ground, secreting a slimy substance that compacts topsoil and sediments. The greater organelles of the Goolix appear to have the chemical potential to emit red light, although its photosensitive nucleus would appear only to activate this adaptation in low light. The rarity of red bioluminescence suggests that the Goolix is either a departed cell of a larger organism or composed of a symbiotic colony of tiny zooids.”

The Goolix appears in Pikmin: Attack of the Breadbugs as a somewhat common enemy in the Marsh Territory, as five can be found there, all of them submerged in water. Their presence can be seen by their two cores, one being larger, softer, and orange, the other smaller, harder, and blue. Goolixes pursue Pikmin family or Captain Olimar when either are nearby, emerging from the water if necessary to attack, even passing through bramble gates that may be in the way. Blue Pikmin must be used against them. Upon defeat, a Goolix quickly evaporates and leaves behind its nuclei, which can be taken to an Onion for seeds. Captain Olimar can assist in carrying the nuclei back to the Onion.

Notes
Olimar's notes
- “This is a creature of a family infamously known for their ability to be mostly comprised of a liquid, and somehow manages to live. It has two nuclei, one yellow, being slightly larger than the smaller, yet more frail, blue one. It is known for attempting to chase creatures smaller than its size, then engulfing them whole, and finally, drowning them. Such behavior is considered dangerous, especially to creatures that are highly vulnerable to liquid-based attacks. It is currently unknown why the goolix does such behavior, although there is some speculation that it does this to consume creatures, but this is unlikely, even though there is even more speculation supporting this assumption, that the goolix itself absorbs the creature's remains. It has a weakness when attacked: its blue nucleus. However, when attacked, it will collide with the other nucleus, knocking off the attacker. Upon death, its membrane sprays liquid in all directions, so further research has currently been impeded...”
Louie's notes
- “Want a refreshing treat on a hot, sweltering day? Just simply put a live goolix in a container. Remove and discard the nuclei, then put the remains into a blender with some ice. The result: the ultimate flavored slushie!”

Attacks | Drowns Pikmin |
The Goolix is a returning boss appearing in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. The creature retains its signature design from Pikmin 1. It can be found slowly oozing around its arena, and once approached, it will take notice of and pursue Pikmin and leaders, initiating the fight.
The Goolix is a slow-moving boss that will attempt to absorb any Pikmin that it touches. Non-Blue Pikmin that touch the creature will be absorbed and begin to drown unless whistled out. However, Blue Pikmin can enter the watery structure of the Goolix. They can then be sent to attack the large, white nucleus of the boss. If attacked, the Goolix will fling away any Pikmin that are still in it. If further threatened, its nucleus will begin to pulsate purple before emitting an acidic substance into its body which kills Blue Pikmin on contact. Once defeated, the Goolix will evaporate and leave its nuclei to collect. In the final cave, a boss fight with the Goolix will play out, in which after being defeated, the Goolix will transform into a Foolix, which in turn transforms into the Ultimate Goolix after being beaten as well.

The Goolix appears in Pikmin: Dual Worlds as a rather uncommon enemy. Similarly to its appearance in Pikmin 1, it is a gelatinous organism with two nuclei, one an off-white with shallow grooves, and the other a pearlescent blue. In addition, the off-white nucleus can not be damaged, whereas the blue one can. It's slightly smaller than in Pikmin 1, being roughly the size of a Red Bulborb. It appears in Salem Swamp on both Flower(+) and non-Flower difficulties, as well as in Aureolin Archipelago. It attacks by drowning Pikmin, though as long as Blue Pikmin are used against it, it's harmless. It has a larger subspecies known as the Clay Goolix, which acts as a miniboss in Salem Swamp, as well as a subspecies known as the Brine Goolix, the body of which acts as an irritant and which is capable of surviving extended contact with water.
Notes
Olimar's notes
- “While originally assumed to be an enormous single-celled creature, research has proven that this enormous, gelatinous being, is in fact a multicellular mimic of its ancestors. Despite that, this family somehow seems to have retained its general structure from its prior days, and it's quite closely related to the amoebile family. This species has a thin membrane protecting its "innards" and nuclei. While the purpose of the blue nucleus has long been known, acting as its nervous system, only recently has the purpose of the other been uncovered: it acts as a storehouse for nutrients.”
Louie's notes
- “The flavor of any particular Goolix is always ever so slightly different from any other. Olimar's current theory is that tiny particles of food are left inside the Goolix and protected against rot, acting as a sort of buffer between running out of actual food and needing to crack open the ol' nucleus. If I could get it to eat candy... Anywho, its goop acts as a surprisingly good base for a sauce due to its slightly earthy flavor.”
Alph's notes
- “Structural flaw: Blue nucleus is vulnerable, Blue Pikmin are somehow able to breathe in its flesh. Weight: Unknown (as a whole). This gooey beast can eat just about anything, and its various subspecies prove that. I mean, using clay to become capable of crushing attacks, as well as getting a defense boost? Using salt to make yourself harder to dissolve in water, not to mention acting as a deterrent for other creatures? Using sand to make yourself look identical to your surroundings? It's absolutely genius! If not for its rather lacking tactical abilities, I wouldn't be surprised if it was smarter than most Bulborbs! Of course, this adaptability comes with a downside–it's basically harmless if you bring Blue Pikmin.”
Brittany's notes
- “This... goopy thing perplexes me to no end. Grass and other plants get caught in it as it trundles along, but try as I might I can never seem to find out what it actually likes. Maybe it doesn't have a sense of taste...? A shame, really, it's surprisingly cute. It deserves a treat every now and then. It's also surprisingly comfy to rest on, as long as you don't get on top too quickly and fall in. I wonder if other critters have tried hitching a ride on–or in–it?”
Charlie's notes
- “For some reason, this critter unnerves me. It has no face, yet it seems to know where my squad and I are at all times. Not only that, it just... allows Pikmin to enter its body. Why? It doesn't seem particularly sticky on the inside. But this thing, it just waits. It doesn't seem harmless, any Pikmin that drown in it are gone (at least mostly) by tomorrow, but it doesn't seem to mind letting things in or out. Regardless, Blue Pikmin can take it down just fine, so that's one less puddle I have to worry about my squad falling into.”

The Goolix appears in Pikmin: Theme Park, and with a fire counterpart known as the Molten Goolix. This watery beast is first encountered on sublevel five of the Fire and Water Warzone attraction at the Heatwave Rollercoaster. They initially appear as a puddle containing two orbs each worth × 1,000 and awaken upon sensing a Blue Pikmin. Because it is twice as large as it is in its original incarnation, many Blue Pikmin must be used. With this tactic, a Goolix should die as soon as it is attacked, causing it to evaporate, although its nuclei will remain.
