The Puffy Blowhog floats gently in the air, and when it finds Pikmin or leaders, it blows them away with a strong gust of air. Before blowing air, it first needs to stop and inhale. It floats high in the air, but low enough for thrown Pikmin to reach. It can shake Pikmin off, though if overwhelmed and weighed down, it'll be brought to the ground, and be vulnerable to attacks for a few seconds. It will then attempt to go back into the air, but if it has too many Pikmin on it, will not succeed. In Pikmin 3, it can instantly inflate when it crashes on the ground, throwing off latched Pikmin.

Attacks | Blows away Pikmin and leaders |
The Puffy Blowhog is an aerial variant of blowhog appearing in Pikmin Eco alongside its terrestrial relatives and the Eroding Blowhog. It's more akin to its Pikmin 3 incarnation and is able to be collected and brought back to the ship after being killed. It will fly around a selected area and, when Pikmin or leaders venture close, it will blow a strong wind at them to send them flying. This doesn't technically harm them, but it could potentially launch either into hazards or other dangers depending on the location.

In Pikmin V, the Puffy Blowhog behaves mostly the same as it has before, except it has one new trick: making true the claim made in its prior Piklopedia entry, instead of merely shaking off Pikmin, it will quickly inflate and jet backward to force them off. This gust of wind can hit even Winged Pikmin. Additionally, Purple Pikmin are no longer totally immune to its wind and will be knocked over, though they still do not get blown away like other Pikmin types. The new Orange Pikmin have strong feet that allow them to perform this duty instead. The Puffy Blowhog has the highest health of any regularly occurring enemy.
Notes
Brittany's notes
- “It is kept aloft by an internal sac filled with pure hydrogen. As hydrogen is very easy to combust, it lives in cooler habitats and keeps air circulating through itself at all times using the holes in its sides. It also possesses the Blowhog trademark of shooting a substance from its snout, although it's just air. It does this to search through grass for small insects and scare them out so it can eat them.”
Olimar's notes
- “While the Puffy Blowhog is harmless by itself, its powerful wind is a huge nuisance that can disorganize Pikmin and leave them vulnerable to attack by more dangerous threats. It can be weighed down with enough Pikmin, though the heavy Purples have a hard time reaching it. If you don't want to fight it, you can use Orange Pikmin for tasks in its area, as they aren't affected.”
Louie's notes
- “Deep fry, air fry, salt fry for puffing... No matter how you slice and prepare this creature's skin, it will make a snack perfect for game day or late-night munchies.”

The Puffy Blowhog appears in Pikmin: The Bulblaxian War as a blowhog that tends to inhabit locations wherein it can easily blow Pikmin and leaders off ledges. A trio of them appears in the Temple of Ice.
Notes
Olimar's notes
- “This blowhog uses hydrogen to float. It tends to stay in cold and wet areas because if it was warm and dry, a fire could start, which is hazardous for this creature; the fire could reach the Puffy Blowhog's hydrogen, and cause it to explode.”
Ship's notes
- “Hmm? What's this? I've never seen one before. How come I don't get these in my hold? WHY? I FEEL LIKE I NEED A REASON TO COMPLAIN ABOUT IT! GIVE!!! GIVE!!!”

Attacks | Blows away Pikmin and leaders |
The Puffy Blowhog is a returning boss appearing in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. The creature retains its design throughout the Pikmin series and can function both as a normal enemy and as a boss. However, its boss form is slightly larger and has sharper spikes. Puffy Blowhogs will float around, only pursuing Pikmin they inevitably spot. Puffy Blowhogs have a very keen eye and can pursue Pikmin from afar. Once they get close, they will inhale deeply, before spewing a massive gust of wind that sends Pikmin and leaders flying all over the place. Although harmless, it becomes deadly if the blowhog is near a bottomless pit, other hazards, or a group of enemies. The Puffy Blowhog can only be weighed down by a large group of Pikmin, as they will easily shake off stragglers grappling onto them. A Purple Pikmin, Weighted Pikmin, or group of Winged Pikmin can take down the beast, causing it to fall down for a few seconds before shaking off its attackers and getting back up. Once they get back up, they will release a gust of wind to propel backward as a form of retreat. When killed, they deflate to a very small size, being able to be collected. They may even spit out a few pellets.

In Pikmin: Shipwrecked Stargazers, the Puffy Blowhog is technically the first enemy encountered, although it can't be defeated in the opening tutorial. It essentially acts the same as its Pikmin 3 incarnation. When around water, they will float down to it to drink some; in ocean areas like Creature's Quay, it will additionally expel salt from its blowholes.
Notes
Olimar's notes
- “This aerial blowhog looks like a giant fish with extravagant colors. Through the use of hydrogen, it can levitate through the air, whilst also building up static electricity that keeps its weak heart pulsing. It uses its blowholes to keep a stable altitude and to filter out inedible substances from the water it drinks. Scornets pose a big threat to Puffy Blowhogs due to their thin skin.”
Louie's notes
- “Have you ever found yourself saying, "Tortilla chips are pretty good, but they would be better if they were pink and blue!" by any chance? Well this swine of the skies has skin so thin you can cut them into triangles, deep fry or bake them, and salt the resulting chips to make this desire a reality!”
