The Burrowing Sand-nit is the largest species of Burrow-nit discovered in Pikspore. Its face is yellow with red glowing eyes and a large toothy mouth. Its proboscis is tipped with red, while its tall spiky shell is dull pink with three purple eyespots and a swirly marking. It also has several crab-like legs but these are rarely seen. Residing underground inside pits of sand built to suck prey in, the Sand-nit emerges when its trap is set off by something like a Pikmin or other small creature, opening its mouth and slowly crawling forward to catch the prey as it struggles to escape from the beast. If the prey somehow manages to escape the sandpit, the Sand-nit thrusts its long stretchy proboscis into the sand, and, through vibrations, manages to seek out the prey and harpoon it before it can see what's coming.

The Burrowing Sand-nit lurks inside the deepest, darkest sublevel of the Sand Lands, in a large pit of sand flowing downwards into the center. It waits for Olimar, Louie, or a Pikmin to touch the rim of the trap and then it emerges. It starts by spitting spiky orbs that stun Pikmin, but these are easily avoided. Any Pikmin that get hit by the orbs will most likely fall into the pit and be eaten by the Sand-nit. When this fails, the Sand-nit will start using its proboscis attack, indicated by the ground above the proboscis cracking and rising, providing enough time to escape. It will continue to thrust its tongue at where its prey is currently standing. After this, the Sand-nit will do a last resort attack and quickly charge up the sand-pit and eat any Pikmin in its path. If it misses, it gets knocked out for five seconds and can be attacked it. After this, it will shake off any Pikmin attacking and repeat its strategy, getting faster and more accurate with its attacks when its health reaches one-half. When killed, its face bubbles and melts off, and the shell sinks into the ground, revealing the Protective Gloves upgrade.

A faster bluer version is fought in Final Frost.
