In Pikmin 3: The Dweevil's Revenge, the Frosty Dweevil is light blue and has pink eyes. When agitated, it attacks by producing a blast of cold wind that only Turquoise Pikmin can resist, as other Pikmin become frozen. When the ice shatters, affected Pikmin die, shattering along with it. Like other dweevils, they pick up objects they find and hide under them.

Notes

Olimar's notes

This creature has a sac of liquid nitrogen surrounded by a hard shell. It uses this to freeze any enemies below it. They tend to pick up refrigerated items.

Ship's notes

As if this goshdarned valley wasn't cold enough, Olimar offers to put these creatures into my hold to give them a home. I'm nice, but not THAT nice.

Attacks Produces liquid hydrogen

The Chill Dweevil is a dweevil in Pikmin: Distant Planet that defends itself by releasing liquid hydrogen that freezes anything upon contact. Its effects last for but a second, as the ice will break shortly after. The Chill Dweevil is identified by its pale blue skin, black eyes, and orange-yellow feelers. It should be dealt with only with Cyan Pikmin, as they are resistant to its icy attacks. Like many other dweevils, it will pick up objects and use them to defend itself.

Notes

Olimar's notes

This curious creature is especially related to the munge dweevil, which sprays poison gas. This certain species, however, sprays liquid hydrogen! How it is stored inside the dweevil without freezing it is a mystery, but I am startled at this insect since I have no ice-resistant Pikmin yet! I must check the local areas to find it… New challenges are up ahead!

Louie's notes

Every attempt to consume this creature has resulted in being frozen stiff. Ha. I’ve heard of cold feet before, but this is ridiculous…

The Hoar Dweevil appears in Pikmin: Dual Worlds. This species of dweevil spews cold air from a pair of holes on its mandibles, specifically spinning around and facing its mandibles upward to create a small column of swirling frosty air around itself. Due to the heat radiating from the dweevil afterward, it doesn't tend to last long, but it's very cold, resulting in anything in the vicinity gaining a frosty coating. Small creatures may be harmed particularly by the rapid creation and shattering of ice on their bodies, though Ice Pikmin are often cold enough to allow the frost to stay until it can be safely melted away. Due to the nature of its attack, the Hoar Dweevil is especially weak to water, as it will often leave the dweevil in pieces.

Attacks Chills and freezes Pikmin

The Gelidity Dweevil is a species of lesser dweevil appearing in Pikmin: Wide World. It explores its small territory on dry land or in shallow water, by itself or with other creatures including its own kind, periodically idling in place, and flees from approaching danger such as Pikmin or leaders. When near an object that requires the strength of up to ten Pikmin to carry, a Gelidity Dweevil will scurry towards it, lift it with its pincers as it scrambles underneath, and then proceed to carry it around on top of its body, holding it firmly using its pincers. They typically are already equipped with an object. However, they do not interact with any bomb rock variant, and in fact avoid them, perhaps aware of their destructive potential. While alone and in possession of an object on land, they fold their legs underneath themselves to sit down, also burying them if the terrain under them is soft to better conceal themselves. When the object a Gelidity Dweevil is holding is nudged, it will be startled out of its disguise and begin to flee. Gelidity Dweevils can take unattended objects as easily as they can any being carried by Pikmin or dragged by a breadbug, leaving either stranded from the object. Gelidity Dweevils also attempt to pick up leaders that are lying down, though leaders they do that to immediately get up. In caves, Gelidity Dweevils are not always initially present on the ground, as they may use strands of their silk to rappel down from cave walls when Pikmin or leaders come near. Until they reveal themselves, they can not be seen in the darkness even with the HocoPad's camera function, but if the ceiling is low enough, the camera's flash may startle them and send them plummeting to the ground below. Gelidity Dweevils that rappel down are never already holding objects.

Gelidity Dweevils are fairly-sized spider-like insects that have a frost-covered, cyan-white exoskeleton, a round body, a pair of maroon eyes above two brown eyes, four slender legs that each end at a fine, dark point, a pair of arms that dangle from their body when in a neutral position and terminate in a pair of pincers, and a pair of mandibles that each have yellow bristles on the outer side of their ends.

Although easy to kill, Gelidity Dweevils can be problematic to hit because of their small frame and are even more so while carrying an object, which inadvertently shields them from harm. To remove an object from its possession, simply throw a few Pikmin, or a single Purple Pikmin, at it or harm the dweevil sufficiently. Depending on the choice, the dweevil will either lack the strength or endure too much pain to continue holding the object. The only time they attack is in retaliation, during which they stand still as their body becomes veiled in frost before releasing a cloud of liquid hydrogen that ices over any surfaces, liquids, objects, and inorganic enemies and severely chills any Pikmin, leaders, and organic enemies in its range. The resulting ice patch will make anything walking on it slip, but eventually thaws and dries. How long the patch of ice takes to thaw depends on the local temperature, with it thawing much sooner and faster in warmer environments than in colder ones, but can be removed prematurely by throwing Rock Pikmin on it to shatter it or exposing it to fire to melt it. The optimal way to defeat one is to stand under it and rapidly throw any Pikmin type at its softer main body. Attacking its legs also works but is far less effective as they are very damage-resistant. However, Gelidity Dweeils are particularly troublesome to attack because of the frost coating their bodies; it prevents Pikmin from latching on for too long and will chill them while they sustain contact. Fire will melt the frost off of it, but inflict only minor damage if there is frost to protect against the fire. Moreover, the Gelidity Dweevil will regain its frost coating whenever it executes an attack. The fastest way to take down a Gelidity Dweevil, and any other lesser dweevil, regardless of it carrying an object, is with Purple Pikmin; their pound removes objects from its grasp and the impact of the Pikmin landing on it slams the dweevil's body to the ground, instantly killing it. On top of that, Purple Pikmin pounds always stun any Gelidity Dweevil caught in their range. Upon death, they spasm shortly before inverting themselves and curling their legs, but if killed by a Purple Pikmin pound, they simply go limp with their legs outstretched instead.

In ultra-spicy difficulty, Gelidity Dweevils take half as much time to execute their retaliatory attack. It also has a slightly larger range, freezing more of anything around it, and can also instantly freeze Pikmin, leaders, and smaller enemies caught in the attack.

Notes

  • PWW Data file icon.png Data file #1 (all difficulties): Gelidity Dweevils defend themselves with a chilling mist, which also forms a layer of frost on their body.
  • PWW Data file icon.png Data file #2 (ultra-spicy difficulty only): A Gelidity Dweevil's freezing mist has a wide range and instantly freezes anything caught in the attack.

Olimar's comments

PWW Captain Olimar icon.png The freezing agent the gelidity dweevil produces is used to make a quick escape when in danger. It instantly freezes, or at least chills, everything it touches on contact. It reminds me of the bitter temperatures of this planet's polar regions, despite it residing in warmer habitats.

Shacho's comments

PWW President icon.png Ah-hah, the solution to preserving food! ...Too bad we already have technology like this on Hocotate. I could market it as organic refrigeration, though, heh heh! Consumers sure love that word. "Organic". Magic.

Marie's comments

PWW Marie icon.png I would personally not recommend this as a pet, the reason being that I do not like the cold. Not to mention, irritating it can cause an array of issues, including structural damage and physical harm. They're a nice way to beat the summer heat, though.

Louie's comments

PWW Louie icon.png While extracting the bug's freezerburnt-tasting meat, avoid triggering the release of the freezing agent. Speaking from experience, it takes some time to break free, even with others around to help. Reminds me of that one movie with the metal man.

Dolphin Lander's comments

PWW Dolphin Lander icon.png I can only imagine how cold the pikmins' hands feel after handling this chilly creature. They work so hard to please their masters... I'm so proud of them.

Yoshord's notes

This large tan dweevil with cyan feelers has an efficient self-refrigeration system. So efficient, in fact, that they are incapable of surviving outside of the hottest environs available on the planet. They are always cold to the touch; however, the cold is not dangerous until they are either dissected or they try to expel the refrigerated air. They are usually in deserts and the like, but when found in more humid areas, like inside volcanoes, they can be seen covered in condensation due to the contrast between their bodies and the surrounding environment.
