Pikmin 5 is the fan-made sixth installment of the Pikmin series. It takes place after the events of Pikmin 3, being the last game in the timeline. A duo of scientists from the planet Shukoko are sent to study and research the Pikmin species of PNF-404. However, as they discover more about these creatures gather samples from the planet to bring back to the lab, and meet new faces who came to the planet for their own purposes, they make a horrid discovery, and are met with a choice between their original goal, and the preservation of PNF-404.

Gameplay
The gameplay of Pikmin 5 has the identical formula of previous Pikmin games; the player is given a time limit to gather resources and defeat enemies with real-time strategy.
Changes to Base Formula
- Only 4 Pikmin types can be on the field at any given time.
- Only 3 captains can be present at any given time.
- Rather than a certain amount of currency unlocking new areas for the player, the main means of progression is dependent on the amount of discoveries, such as finding caves, collecting samples, and adding entries to the Piklopedia.
- Weather makes a return. The weather can be sunny, cloudy, rainy or foggy. Cold areas have snow instead of rain.
New Mechanics
Captain Skills
The player will gather several different captains throughout the game, and each one has a special set of skills and stats. These stats are set in stone with their correspondent character, but they can be improved. These stats are: Speed, Throw, Defense, Attack, and Coordination. Each stat has a maximum of 5 points it can have. Captains that are maxed out in all their stats cannot be trained.
- Speed is the walking pace of a Captain, and determines how quickly they can get from point A to point B.
- Throw determines how far/high a Captain can throw their Pikmin, though the difference between each is slight.
- Defense is how much damage a Captain can take before needing to be decommissioned for the rest of the day so they can recover.
- Attack is how much damage a Captain does with their punch. Higher attack stats can be useful to mitigate the risk of sacrificing Pikmin.
- Coordination determines how efficiently Pikmin respond to their commands. Good coordination causes them to carry objects faster, return faster when whistled, reduce Pikmin's chances of being shaken off, among other things.
Captains can be trained in order to improve a certain stat, but they will be unavailable for that day. Their training will be concluded at the end of the day, and the stat they trained for will increase by one point.
Pikollen
For every 10 Pikmin of one type that an Onion produces, they will also produce Pikollen within its interior that can be harvested by taking it out of the Onion the same way one would a Pikmin. Pikollen can be used to craft items for Captains to use to aid their journey.
Types of Pikollen:
- Ruby Pikollen (Red)
- Citrine Pikollen (Yellow)
- Sapphire Pikollen (Blue)
- Amethyst Pikollen (Purple)
- Quartz Pikollen (White)
- Obsidian Pikollen (Rock)
- Rhodonite Pikollen (Winged)
- Aquamarine Pikollen (Ice)
- Jade Pikollen (Goo)
- Amber Pikollen (Blast)

Trivia
- Goo and Blast Pikmin were inspired by the green and orange Onions seen in the ending to Pikmin 1, in which several differently-colored Onions follow the S.S. Dolphin into space.
- The names of the Captains and other characters are derived from flowers.
- Each locale is based on the Nine Worlds from Norse mythology.
