Pikmin III, pronounced Pikmin 3, or sometimes Pikmin Trēs or Pikmin Tertius, is a fanmade sequel to Pikmin 2 inspired by classic 2008-2010-era Pikmin Fanon games and childhood Pikmin game ideas, from a time where nearly all Pikmin fangames were some form of "Pikmin 3 fan version". This game prominently features enemies and features from the first two Pikmin games, with most of the content from these games returning. It also has a few concepts from more recent Pikmin titles, namely Pikmin 3, Pikmin 4, and Hey! Pikmin, but there are few such concepts present due to the nature of the game as an alternate Pikmin 2 sequel.

Trailers

Fittingly for the game, the trailer video for Pikmin III is inspired by 2009-era YouTube videos made using Windows Movie Maker.

There are also gameplay trailers for Pikmin III, though only the scripts of these will ever be made. Check them out for some Pikmin III teaser content!

Plot

Pikmin III follows the adventures of a new Hocotatian leader, Todd, as he ventures to PNF-404, known in Pikmin III as the "Green Planet", in search of a miracle cure made from the incredible wildlife of the strange planet, which he hopes to use to cure Pecha, his mother, who became terribly sick with a mysterious space illness soon after purchasing a treasure from Hocotate Freight after the events of Pikmin 2.

However, as Todd approaches the planet, a strange creature attacks his ship, the "S.S. Revolution", causing him to make a crash landing. The crash landing causes Todd to lose a "Medichanical Core" which is apparently needed for Todd to use to find a cure to the disease originating from this planet which his mother has contracted. Damage sustained from the crash also causes the Revolution to lose the majority of its biofuel, which it needs to lift off at the end of each day. Todd must collect enough organic materials to keep the S.S. Revolution fueled as he spends each day on the Green Planet.

Gameplay

The game is similar to Pikmin 2. It contains many new treasures and enemies.

Content

Characters

The new Hocotatian character by the name of Todd is the main protagonist of Pikmin III. It is unknown what other characters will make an appearance, though the gameplay trailers indicate that Olimar seems to have some role in the story and a new leader with an orange beacon and black suit seems to be the secondary leader in addition to Todd. Pecha, Todd's mother, also appears in Pikmin III, where she is sick due to some planetary sickness from the Green Planet which was present on one of the treasures collected in Pikmin 2. One of the gameplay trailers also briefly mentions Todd having a brother, Rodd, though it is not known yet whether he actually appears in the game or not.

Pikmin

Many Pikmin types appear in Pikmin III, including both returning Pikmin from Pikmin 1 and Pikmin 2 and brand-new Pikmin types. The full Pikmin list has not been revealed yet, but it has been confirmed that a new Green Pikmin type with sharp claws will make an appearance, and several other Pikmin types are teased in one of the game's trailers.

Enemies

Main article: Pikmin III/Piklopedia

Enemies from the first 2 Pikmin games return in Pikmin III, and there are many new creatures as well. New creatures shown in trailers include a massive reptilian creature with wings and a bird's head which is seemingly some sort of snavian, a huge version of the Water Dumple, a new turtle enemy which hurls itself down slopes as well as a smaller new turtle enemy which seems to be a smaller version of the same enemy, a desert-dwelling version of the Creeping Chrysanthemum, and a flying insectoid enemy with a black body, white head, and bloated orange abdomen.

Controls

Pikmin III's controls are virtually identical to those of the New Play Control! Pikmin releases, making use of both the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. As Pikmin III is a game for the Wii, it also is compatible with the GameCube controller, which handles the same way as in Pikmin 2.

Credits

Pikmin III is made by A Friendly Amprat, but has inspiration from many fanon Pikmin games by other users in it. Besides being directly designed as a sequel to Pikmin 1 and Pikmin 2 and heavily featuring and re-imagining concepts from those games, this game is also inspired by a variety of fanon Pikmin games. These games are not canon to the Pikmin III timeline and are only used as sources of inspiration, but creatures and other concepts from these games may appear.

A list of other Pikmin games besides Pikmin 1 and Pikmin 2 is included to show what ideas led to Pikmin III. Anyone who likes Pikmin III should check out these other games as well.

  • Pikmin: Sinister Incinerator
    • This game is Amprat's favorite fanon Pikmin game, and many concepts and creatures which originated in PSI make prominent appearances in Pikmin III.
  • Pikmin 3 (Hinsburg version)
    • Hinsburg's Pikmin 3 was the first fanon Pikmin game that A Friendly Amprat ever experienced, and it is a central source of inspiration for all of Amprat's Pikmin game ideas, dating back to 2008.
  • Pikmin 3, Pikmin 4, and Hey! Pikmin
    • These three games are not fanon games, but are treated as such for the purposes of Pikmin III. The operating principle is that Pikmin III is a game designed as if it was made by Pikmin fans in 2009, but to avoid shutting out any potential of using ideas from more recent Pikmin games, these games are regarded as (very high budget) Pikmin Fanon fangames made by other users, which the creator of Pikmin III took inspiration from in development of Pikmin III.
  • Pikmin: The After Years
    • Pikmin: The After Years is another of Amprat's favorite fanon games on Pikmin Fanon.
  • Pikspore
    • Pikspore is one of Amprat's favorite Pikmin Fanon games, much like The After Years and Sinister Incinerator.
  • Amprat's childhood ideas of Pikmin 3
    • A majority of the new concepts in Pikmin III are taken and reimagined from Amprat's Pikmin 3 ideas which he came up with between the release date of Pikmin 2 and the eventual reveal trailer for Pikmin 3. There are a dozen or more of such fanon games, and many concepts are borrowed from them.
