Pikmin 3, as envisioned by Hinsburg from the GameFAQs Pikmin 2 forum board, is a fanmade sequel to Pikmin 2. It was created in 2008, when it was posted to the forum board on May 26th of that year. The thread would continue to receive regular updates until November 19th of that same year, when it was discontinued due to its creator having too many other projects. The original forum thread the guide through the game and all discussion of the game was posted to, known as "My Pikmin 3 Walkthrough (FAKE)", is still archived online, and is viewable here.

This concept of Pikmin 3 features many returning enemies and all returning Pikmin from Pikmin 1 and Pikmin 2, as well as featuring many new enemies and a new Pikmin type, Pink Pikmin. The new collectible resources that are gathered through the story, equivalent to the ship parts of Pikmin 1 and treasures of Pikmin 2, are machines, collected to solve an energy crisis on Hocotate by providing new energy sources.

Plot

After the events of Pikmin 2, Olimar and the President return to Hocotate from their adventure on PNF-404, along with Louie. Arriving at Hocotate Freight, they find the company to be in better shape than ever, having been under the leadership of the President's wife. However, an unexpected guest has arrived at Hocotate Freight: The Mayor of Hocotate. He, along with Elizabeth, his daughter, have been waiting for Olimar and the others to return.

The Mayor informs Olimar, Louie, and the President that he has a proposition for them. He explains that the electricity bills on Hocotate are rising, and Hocotate's energy is running dangerously low, but the treasures that have been found on PNF-404 include several incredible energy sources, such as the Courage Reactor and Flame of Tomorrow, which may be able to save Hocotate from its impending crisis. The Mayor immediately tasks Olimar to return to the planet of the Pikmin once again and gather more energy sources from the planet in order to save Hocotate from running out of energy. As Olimar reluctantly agrees and steps back toward the ship, Louie begins to follow him, but is stopped by the Mayor. He informs Olimar that Louie cannot come back with Olimar because there are only two seats on the ship and the Mayor's daughter, Elizabeth, is coming with Olimar instead. He explains that Elizabeth is studying to be a great scientist, and she wants to accompany Olimar to the planet to examine its wildlife. Louie seems a bit sad at being left out of this mission, and Olimar seems saddened at the news as well. The Mayor tells Olimar to leave immediately, as all of Hocotate is counting on this new expedition. Olimar and his new companion Elizabeth enter the ship and blast back off to PNF-404 once more, knocking away Louie, the Mayor, and the President in the process.

Returning to the planet, Olimar is able to safely enter the atmosphere and is about to land the ship in the first area, Dawn Lake, when a Red Bulborb suddenly attacks the ship, and Elizabeth is launched from the ship in the chaos. Olimar tries to find Elizabeth but is blocked by a bramble gate. Meanwhile, Elizabeth is able to find the Red Pikmin and their Onion, and with their help can knock down the gate and reunite with Olimar. With the two of them reunited, Olimar and Elizabeth collect a strange machine that Elizabeth noticed earlier, and bring it back to the ship, marking the collection of the first energy source on the planet. With this, the first day ends.

The next day, Olimar and Elizabeth make a landing in the second area, Tranquil Forest, where they discover Purple Pikmin and gather a few more machines and some ultra-spicy spray. They soon discover a third area, the Pensive Plains, where they gather more machines, discover a new ultra-sour spray, and find White Pikmin in the Ivory Burrow. From here, they return to Tranquil Forest and find Yellow Pikmin, ultra-bitter spray, and collect many more machines. They return to Dawn Lake and find ultra-sweet spray, find Pink Pikmin in the Metal Trench, then use their abilities in the Pensive Plains to unlock a new area, the Black Abyss. In this region, Elizabeth and Olimar finally find Blue Pikmin, the final Pikmin type, then use them to explore much more back at the Dawn Lake and find the first of four radio machines, which can be used to unlock a fifth area when enough of them are gathered. This marks the end of revealed content before the fanon game thread closed, but Olimar and Elizabeth would have found another radio in each of the other three areas and then use them to reach the fifth and final area, where the remaining machines would have been found.

Pikmin

All Pikmin types from the first two Pikmin games return, and there is a new Pikmin type that can be found underground like Purple and White Pikmin. Bulbmin also return, along with a new parasitic Pikmin life-form.

Areas

The game has five areas, though only four were ever revealed. The fifth area would have been unlocked when the four special "radio" machines were collected. Like in Pikmin 2, each area of the game has several caves to explore.

The fifth area was planned to be a fusion of the Valley of Repose and Wistful Wild.

Many enemies from earlier Pikmin games reappear in Pikmin 3, and there are a variety of new enemy types to encounter as well.

Machines

Machines are the new collectible, filling the role of treasures from Pikmin 2 and ship parts from Pikmin 1. There were planned to be 300 collectible machines, but only 130 of them are known.
