Pikmin 4: Planetary Meltdown is a three-dimensional strategy game and the fourth installment to the Pikmin series. Its events take place thirty-five years after those of Pikmin 2.
Plot
The President of Hocotate Freight has died ten years ago, and Olimar got the company from his will. He turned Hocotate Freight into the Pikmin Travel Agency. After several years, the Hocotate Health Department has seen health problems with the Distant Planet, and many of the species have evolved into mutant creatures. Hocotate Health Department has only one choice: blow up the Pikmin Planet, in sixty days. Olimar with Louie, and two new night employees, Luke and Zeke, head to the Pikmin Planet to clean up the pollution. On the way, they enter an asteroid field, where they get hit and the ship's parts fly toward the Pikmin Planet.
Gameplay
There are sixty days to fulfill the objective before getting a forced game over. Luke and Zeke are able to explore PNF-404's surface during the night.
Content
Pikmin
There are eight new types of Pikmin, not including returning types.
- Red Pikmin – the first type of Pikmin found, attacking a Dwarf Red Bulborb near the landing site. They are fire-resistant, but are the least useful Pikmin. They are the one of two Pikmin to take down fire gates.
- Yellow Pikmin – the third type of Pikmin to be found. They are immune to electricity and explosions, and are able to pick up bomb rocks.
Hazards
- Pollution – comes in shallow and deep forms, the former being harmful and the latter being lethal.
Controls
The controls for both versions of the game are the same as Pikmin 2's, but in the Wii U version, Pikmin are moved about with the touch screen and thrown by flinging up on it.
