Olimar crash lands on a paper planet identical to the Pikmin planet and he finds Pikmin-like beings made of an unknown substance that he calls paper. He finds that vital parts of his ship are missing and he must find them to get off the planet. he finds that there is paint polluting the area and paintbrushes and special Pikmin using paint to pollute.
 
When the player beats all of the paint monsters from the painter Pikmin the ship blasts off and he leaves the planet. When he looks back at the planet he sees that the place where he blasted off was on fire! Then a painter Pikmin puts it out with paint and waves along with the other Pikmin.

Olimar crash lands on paper planet identical to the pikmin planet. He finds pikmin like beings made of a unknown substance that he calls paper. It's up to Olimar and the paper pikmin to get the ship parts from around this strange world back. he finds some special pikmin he's never seen before and calls them painter pikmin because of the brush on their head.
Along the way he meets stranger, and stronger enemies and stranger places.

If the player finds the ship all the ship parts but the ship malfunctions and he lands on a different part of the planet. When captain Olimar looks to see what's wrong he finds that a paper bone from a dry bulborb was stuck in the engine where Olimar couldn't get it out. He needed to shrink down in size to get the bone out. He thinks he can make a shrinking device from things around the planet. the game continues on.
