Name Moss
Gender Female
Age Unknown
Eye color Brown
Hair color Green
Home planet PNF-404
Known related characters Olimar, Louie

Moss is the space dog belonging to Captain Olimar. She is found by him when he crashlands on PNF-404 and quickly befriends her, helping him throughout his search for his ship's missing parts. Even after Olimar's doomed failure and subsequent transformation into a leafling, she still accompanies him. Unlike Oatchi, Moss is seen to be a native of PNF-404, with Olimar speculating that her leafy tail has actually been that way since birth, similar to the Pikmin. Despite being born light-years apart from each other, Oatchi and Moss are both stated to descend from the PNF-404 native Ancient Sirehound, which Olimar believes suggests something deeper about the nature of their universe.

Moss also serves as an enemy at one point, guarding Olimar's bunker in the Hero's Hideaway until it is opened. She seeks out Pikmin in the field, whether idle or in a squad, and whistles them, confusing them, to put them under her control. Upon gathering Pikmin, she will try to run off with them. Pikmin under Moss's control can not be freed until Moss takes significant damage, at which point she will let them go and try to escape. When her health is depleted, she will be incapacitated and begin regenerating health.

In Dandori Battles, she can be knocked out, which transports her to the Onion, and can then be called by Olimar. Also in Dandori Battles, she accompanies Louie instead after Olimar is cured of his leafling status.

Moss is present in Pikmin: Antarctic Survival, as one of the game's four wandering creatures. She begins to wander the Antarctic after the Diamond Settlement reaches its third level, after making a brief appearance at the edge of the settlement to investigate, but being scared off after a series of warning barks by the large number of dangerous creatures residing in the Diamond Settlement. When wandering, Moss can be found anywhere in the Antarctic, though she is most commonly found in the Ancestral Hunting Ground after the defeat of the Ancient Sirehound.

Moss provides similar assistance to the Awakened creatures of the Diamond Settlement as the abilities she provides in Pikmin 4. She is very skilled at searching for things in an exploration team, as she starts with a search skill level of 5 when Awakened. She is also quite good at digging, starting with a quarrying level of 2. Uniquely, she also starts with the Sniffer skill, a skill only possessed by Moss and Fluffy. Moss is much better at sniffing to pick up a scent, able to follow the scent of pretty much anything, including various different items, wild creatures, Pikmin, and even baubles when she is present in the same search team as Glammet.

Moss is an ideal team member to bring on a search team into any area of the Antarctic, as she raises the likelihood of finding whatever item she is currently sniffing for by a large margin. Her Sniffer skill is more effective than Fluffy's, and is thus more likely to be successful and actually find the desired object or creature. She is also fairly strong, with a carrying ability of 20, and has an incredible amount of toughness, with her HP of 70 exceeding that of even most bosses in the game. Due to her usefulness, it is recommended to seek out and Awaken Moss as soon as she makes her brief appearance at the Diamond Settlement. Defeating and Awakening Moss can be challenging, though, due to her toughness and her habit of fleeing when at low health. She will also accompany wild Pikmin and they will help each other in battle, leading to a much more challenging encounter if Moss participates in defending the Onion during an Onion raid.

As an Awakened resident of the Diamond Settlement, Moss is able to speak the same language as the other residents, allowing them to communicate and understand each other. This gives a new insight into Moss's personality and her thoughts regarding the events of Pikmin 4. She is shown to be very cautious and constantly on guard against possible threats, regarding anything she considers potentially dangerous with her signature nasty glare.

Moss believes that Olimar, who she always refers to as "Captain Olimar", left her in charge of the Pikmin species when he left to return to his home planet. As a result, Moss will be especially attached to the Pikmin of the Diamond Settlement, always wanting to protect them and gather more of them from the wild due to the lack of an Onion for the Awakened creatures. Moss is shown to place her loyalty to her Captain in everything she does, stating that she owes him a "life debt" and will carry out his last orders for as long as it takes for him to eventually return to the planet. Her loyalty to Olimar and the Pikmin gives her an initial distrust of the Awakened creatures, but she begins to trust them over time as she spends time at the Diamond Settlement. Moss harbors intense dislike for any Awakened creatures who do not object to the eating of Pikmin or even may eat Pikmin themselves, and she will growl and come into strong conflict with these such residents. Moss also seems to have something of a maternal instinct, as she will protect and defend the young residents of the Diamond Settlement just as she does her Pikmin.

Moss's bark seems worse than her bite, as she is much more likely to attempt to scare off a threat through growls, barks, and death glares than she is to actually attack, and while she can get into loud disagreements with other Diamond Settlement residents, she will never take a confrontation past the point of merely verbal. In the case of dealing with a particularly unruly resident, Moss is much more likely to bring the matter to a creature she sees as an authority, such as Tatoursin or Crystal, rather than taking matters into her own paws.

When Moss meets Fluffy, she will initially be quite hostile toward him due to his having eaten Pikmin in the past. However, Fluffy responds to this with a high degree of guilt and shame for his past actions, saying that he feels horrible that he ate the "little guys" when he was "crazed". Once Moss realizes that Fluffy is not the aggressive wild dog that she initially thought he was, she begins to be nicer to him, and the two of them end up becoming friends. Moss even calls Fluffy a "good boy" on some occasions, which always fills Fluffy with joy and leads him to wag his tail excitedly. Moss is aware that Fluffy is most likely a distant ancestor of hers, and she finds this a bit amusing, as even though Fluffy is much older than Moss, she is the much more mature of the two of them.

Though Oatchi never appears in Antarctic Survival, Moss does mention him on occasion, saying that she respected his loyalty and pup drive and that she feels a bit bad that the two of them usually met on such hostile terms. Moss hopes that wherever Oatchi is now, he's working hard and doing well alongside his leader companion. Some of the residents of the Diamond Settlement remind Moss quite a bit of Oatchi.
