The Sovereign Bulblax is an Emperor Bulblax that is of advanced age and has many of the same attacks as its younger stage. It hides underground with only its back exposed, and when disturbed, erupts from the ground, throwing anything too close to it away. It can lash its tongue out to eat Pikmin, hop in place to shake off attacking Pikmin and crush any underneath upon landing, and when sufficiently damaged, unleash a roar that causes Pikmin to panic. Immediately after roaring, the Sovereign Bulblax will prepare and execute a large jump to crush Pikmin and leaders with. When left alone after being awakened, it patrols the local area instead of burrowing underground again. A unique plant, the Bulborel, is stated by Olimar to grow on its body.

Blaxander III is the Sovereign Bulblax that appears in Pikmin: Antarctic Survival. Blaxander serves as the powerful and devastating tyrant of the Empire Field, and he is feared by all creatures in the region due to his aggressive hunting strategies and appetite for any creatures that venture into the region, even other grub-dogs. Prior to his Awakening, Blaxander is known by his tyrant name "King of Kings". His powerful and tyrannical rule is the reason for the Empire Field's name.

Blaxander III's name is meant to reference how kings have historically been named throughout different countries. The name "Blaxander" is based on the name "Alexander", and could be a reference to Alexander the Great, one of the most successful and influential kings in history. The "III" in Blaxander's name indicates that he is the third "Blaxander" in his royal line, as is customary for the names of kings and queens. Blaxander's tyrant name, "King of Kings", is a historical title given to especially influential and respected kings. Fittingly for his name, Blaxander is a king above other kings, specifically above Richard, an Emperor Bulblax native to the Empire Field.

The Titan Bulblax is the final boss of Pikmin: Elements and has one of the longest buildups in the series. It has mastery over every element. It retains its previous appearance but is slightly bigger and resistant to almost everything.

Its battle is divided into 7 distinct stages, each with a particular theme:

  1. Fire. It breathes fire in a 90-degree angle, jumps to create rings of fire, and licks and eats Pikmin.
  2. Electricity. It spins to create static electricity, spits fields of static discharge, and licks and eats Pikmin.
  3. Humidity. It spits water forward and spins its tongue in a circle to spray water.
  4. Poison. It emits poison, runs around so quickly that only White Pikmin can keep pace, and spits an explosive ball of poison.
  5. Ice. It has an icy back, and creates ice blocks that must be destroyed to dissipate the cold air.
  6. Blunt force. It has a crystal shell, knocks rocks from the ceiling, jumps low and high, spits crystal balls, and licks and eats Pikmin.
  7. None. The creature is truly vulnerable in this phase. It shakes off Pikmin, and licks and eats Pikmin.

After defeating the Titan Bulblax, it will drop 6 Smoky Progg loot pieces that each yield 100 Pikmin, and the final part, the cosmic-drive key, which only 1 Pikmin needs to carry. After the cosmic-drive key is returned to the S.S. Nexus, Dell returns home to Koppai.

Attacks Eats and crushes Pikmin, incites panic

The Sovereign Bulblax appears as the fourth night expedition raid boss in Pikmin: Interstellar Cryptid, being christened the boss title of the Green-Grizzled Despot. It remains buried in one of the boundaries in Giant's Bald Spot during the morning, appearing as a massive, mossy stone. However, it can not be engaged outside of the night expedition, "Emperor's New Clothes". After all the waves have been dealt with, a cutscene will play where it will be seen rising out of the earth. It then turns to look at the Lumiknoll with red eyes and roars before its name and title flash onto the screen.

The Sovereign Bulblax will slowly lumber towards the Lumiknoll, so slowly it can be reached before it reaches its target. When engaged in combat, it will attempt to eat the squad's Glow Pikmin with its tongue, sometimes doing small jumps to flush them off its body and crush them underneath. It may also roar to scatter them in fear. At lower health, it will perform massive jumps that cause it to fly out of view entirely before slamming back down, creating a massive shockwave that throws everything away and depetals Glow Pikmin. If it reaches the Lumiknoll, it will deliberately fall onto it, smashing it flat and instantly ending the expedition with failure.

Notes

Olimar's notes

Once an emperor bulblax reaches a particular age, it will leave its pack and live a solitary life to ensure a lack of competition between it and other individuals. At this age, its legs are so thoroughly developed they can send it multiple feet into the air when it jumps, making the sovereign much more dangerous than it appears (and emperor bulblaxes weren't necessarily the poster child for "safe wildlife" either). Its defensive carapace provides a hint of its age; each calcified ring of hide equates to roughly one Hocotation year. This specimen has been observed with more than a hundred rings, suggesting it is an ancient individual. Their fertile hides provide a habitat for various species of moss, pteridophytes, and fungi. Over 200 individual species have been found living on their backs, including a species of mushroom called the bulborel that exclusively grows on elder bulblaxes in place of the blaxcaps on younger specimens.

Louie's notes

The flavor of this fossil lends more towards umami, and I can never resist umami. Prepare as you would a younger morsel, and use the salted, lightly cooked ferns as a side dish. If you find a bulborel on its back, be sure to chop it up for the broth as well!

Bentley's notes

This almighty warlord intruded on our expedition to help Roacher recover from his injuries. At first, I was mortified and confused, but then I realized it was US who intruded on ITS turf. I fully understand its frustration now.

Eloise's notes

When it stared us down with its piercing red eyes, I felt pitiful and puny. But then we defeated it... and BOY did I feel like a god!
