The Venom Dweevil, formerly known as the Munge Dweevil, is a dweevil that, when agitated by attacks, will release a cloud of gas that will poison all nearby Pikmin except White Pikmin. When a treasure or corpse is nearby, a Venom Dweevil will lift it up onto its head and carry it, making it impossible for Pikmin to collect until it is broken free. When a dweevil has an item in its possession, it will stay at rest, crouching down, appearing as if it is only the item, until it is approached by a leader or Pikmin, at which point it will stand up and run away.

The Venom Dweevil is a species of dweevil appearing in Pikmin Evolution. It retains its design from Pikmin 4, but colored purple with cyan eyes like its Pikmin 2 incarnation. Like always, it steals items, and as a defense mechanism, scatters a purple poison gas to deter all but Roach Pikmin. The Venom Dweevil's first new trait is the ability to band together and form large swarms, increasing the overall radius of their gas cloud. This new swarming feature allows the Venom Dweevil to become more offensive, as the increase in number allows them to be more brave with their attacks. However, they are still helpless against Roach Pikmin, as bringing an entire squad of them will cause the dweevils to helplessly flee, not even attempting to attack. It should be noted that just stunning them with an Alloy Pikmin slam is a bad idea as they will spray a cloud of gas in panic, so Roach Pikmin are a must for defeating Venom Dweevils without casualties. Aside from these minor changes, the Venom Dweevil is the same as its previous appearance.

The Munge Dweevil appears in Pikmin: Dual Worlds. This species of dweevil acts a bit differently from its Pikmin 2 incarnation in that it ejects clouds of poison gas in a two-lined spiral around itself from holes on its mandibles, similarly to the Titan Dweevil's Comedy Bomb attack.

Attacks Poisons Pikmin

The Mung Dweevil is a species of lesser dweevil appearing in Pikmin: Wide World. It explores its small territory on dry land or in shallow water, by itself or with other creatures including its own kind, periodically idling in place, and flees from approaching danger such as Pikmin or leaders. When near an object that requires the strength of up to ten Pikmin to carry, a Mung Dweevil will scurry towards it, lift it with its pincers as it scrambles underneath, and then proceed to carry it around on top of its body, holding it firmly using its pincers. They typically are already equipped with an object. However, they do not interact with any bomb rock variant, and in fact avoid them, perhaps aware of their destructive potential. While alone and in possession of an object on land, they fold their legs underneath themselves to sit down, also burying them if the terrain under them is soft to better conceal themselves. When the object a Mung Dweevil is holding is nudged, it will be startled out of its disguise and begin to flee. Mung Dweevils can take unattended objects as easily as they can any being carried by Pikmin or dragged by a breadbug, leaving either stranded from the object. Mung Dweevils also attempt to pick up leaders that are lying down, though leaders they do that to immediately get up. In caves, Mung Dweevils are not always initially present on the ground, as they may use strands of their silk to rappel down from cave walls when Pikmin or leaders come near. Until they reveal themselves, they can not be seen in the darkness even with the HocoPad's camera function, but if the ceiling is low enough, the camera's flash may startle them and send them plummeting to the ground below. Mung Dweevils that rappel down are never already holding objects.

Mung Dweevils are fairly-sized spider-like insects that have a purple exoskeleton, a round body, a pair of indigo eyes above two green eyes, four slender legs that each end at a fine, dark point, a pair of arms that dangle from their body when in a neutral position and terminate in a pair of pincers, and a pair of mandibles that each have blue bristles on the outer side of their ends.

Although easy to kill, Mung Dweevils can be problematic to hit because of their small frame and are even more so while carrying an object, which inadvertently shields them from harm. To remove an object from its possession, simply throw a few Pikmin, or a single Purple Pikmin, at it or harm the dweevil sufficiently. Depending on the choice, the dweevil will either lack the strength or endure too much pain to continue holding the object. The only time they attack is in retaliation, during which they stand still as their body becomes veiled in noxious purple-red gas, endangering inapt Pikmin even then, before releasing an expanding cloud of poison that spreads along the ground for as long as its lasts. The optimal way to defeat one is to stand under it and rapidly throw Pikmin, preferably White Pikmin because of their poison resistance, at its softer main body. Attacking its legs also works but is far less effective as they are very damage-resistant. The fastest way to take down a Mung Dweevil, and any other lesser dweevil, regardless of it carrying an object, is with Purple Pikmin; their pound removes objects from its grasp and the impact of the Pikmin landing on it slams the dweevil's body to the ground, instantly killing it. On top of that, Purple Pikmin pounds always stun any Mung Dweevil caught in their range. Upon death, they spasm shortly before inverting themselves and curling their legs, but if killed by a Purple Pikmin pound, they simply go limp with their legs outstretched instead.

In ultra-spicy difficulty, Mung Dweevils take half as much time to execute their retaliatory attack. Their attack also has a slightly bigger range and lingers for longer, spreading further than normal before dissipating.

  • PWW Data file icon.png Data file #1 (all difficulties): Mung Dweevils use poison gas to defend themselves. Beware its spread.
  • PWW Data file icon.png Data file #2 (ultra-spicy difficulty only): A Mung Dweevil's poison cloud is quite potent, and persists for some time.

Olimar's comments

PWW Captain Olimar icon.png To deter attackers, the mung dweevil emits a cloud of noxious fumes that linger in the air for some time before dissipating. The cloud gradually grows over time, making it likely that its predators would asphyxiate looking for it there despite it having fled and used its cloud as cover.

Shacho's comments

PWW President icon.png This bug has a beautiful color to it! Sure, it might fart, but there's nothing wrong with it. I just think the pikmin are offended by its brilliant color, not its defense mechanism.

Marie's comments

PWW Marie icon.png Definitely not a pet I would recommend having. It's okay at first, but a little irritation and suddenly the room is filled with toxic gas. Be sure to always ventilate your home by having a window or two open at all times.

Louie's comments

PWW Louie icon.png Inedible. The insect's flesh has a strong tangy flavor but is extremely poisonous. Also, allergies.

Dolphin Lander's comments

PWW Dolphin Lander icon.png Olimar and his crew are lucky I'm not one to protest. If I was, I'd tell them to stop storing these in my cargo hold, they stink up the place! ...At least, that's the impression I get from their notes. I can't really smell smells.

Olimar's notes

This creature reminds me of White Pikmin, and I can't help but wonder why White Pikmin are not purple or why Purple Pikmin are not white, as well as why is the dweevil not white, although I figure that nature chose the common color for poison.
