Scientific name Molluschid florera
Family Mollusking

The Bloomcap Bloyster is a mollusking that has a shell on its back to protect it from harm. The shell can be folded upwards, trapping Pikmin attacking its gill but exposing the rest of its body to attack. The creature itself rather indiscriminately ingests any Pikmin in its path, as well as objects, be they treasures or even bomb rocks.

The Bloomcap Bloyster is a species of mollusking appearing in MagiPikmin, and much like how it does in Pikmin 4, just with a more realistic texture. Bloomcap Bloysters appear in underground areas, primarily those with a damp environment, where they patrol the tunnels, filter feeding any food that enters their vicinity. Bloomcap Bloysters often appear in small packs, using the bulb-like tails on their backs to create pulsating sounds that alert other Bloomcap Bloysters to food, causing all the Bloysters in the area to give chase. Bloomcap Bloysters are very simple but effective attackers, quickly slurping up anything that crosses their vicinity. This doesn't just include Pikmin, but also small insects like Sheargrubs, and even small animals like the Dwarf Bulborb. When the Bloomcap Bloyster consumes a larger meal, it will devour the carcass and use the nutrients to heal itself. Another new technique is the ability for the Bloomcap Bloyster to leave behind a trail of slime, which slows down anything that crosses the trail. This means approaching the Bloyster from behind can be a bit of a challenge. The final new trait of the Bloomcap Bloyster is its regeneration. When one Bloomcap Bloyster dies, it will be left as a pile of pink goo, and if another Bloomcap Bloyster crosses that goo, they will splash mucus on the goo to revive the slain Bloyster. The only way to prevent this from happening is to kill all the Bloysters in a quick time frame, after which all the pink goo will evaporate.

Aside from these new tricks, battling Bloomcap Bloysters comes down to just having strong fundamental stealth. Sneak up from behind and attack the tail on its back, after which the shell it carries will open up, allowing the soft body underneath to be attacked safely. The Bloomcap Bloyster is also very weak to ice, as they not only freeze pretty quickly compared to other creatures, but their shells can be frozen too, meaning they become destructible and therefore able to be attacked at all times. Keep in mind that breaking the shell does cause the Bloyster to gain a notable speed increase. Overall, the Bloomcap Bloyster adds some new tricks to its classic design, but at the end of the day, it is the same vacuum monster from its previous appearances and should therefore be treated as such.

Notes

Fiddleworth's journal

A mollusk that lives in undersea caves, the Bloomcap Bloyster is a rather ancient creature, being around even before the people of planet could gain the boon of speaking, though I doubt that they predate even the dreaded proggs.

Nicolas' cookbook

Takes a few hours to drain the mollusk of its mucus, but that is worth it as bloomcap gelatin is a surprising favorite among the villagers. Turns out that if you cram a bunch of fruits inside of something, everyone will like it.

Sachi's catalog

Oftentimes, when brought to the village, these mollusks find themselves hiding in the shade, gnawing on small items they collected. Maybe it isn't capable of separating underground life from aboveground life, very perplexing.
