Scientific name Pseudoarachnia discopedes
Family Arachnorb

The Groovy Long Legs is a biomechanical arachnorb that has had its entire carapace completely replaced with a disco light ball and an audio device implanted within, and the second set of joints on all of its limbs fitted with four holes containing specialized glands. To start the battle, it will quickly descend from its web, slamming its body into the ground and breakdancing to swing its legs into place, knocking away any Pikmin and leaders too close to it. It attacks primarily by stomping with its four large feet to the beat of its music, but its signature attack involves spewing a pink gas below itself from the holes in its legs. This gas causes Pikmin exposed to it to enter a state of confusion, hypnotizing them into dancing uncontrollably.

There are three songs that the Groovy Long Legs can play, which control the speed of its stomps and are identified by the color of its nineteen glowing eyes. While its eyes are cyan, it plays an intimidating yet funky song, and stomps to it at a slow pace. If no Pikmin are under it, the Groovy Long Legs will simply briefly pause before continuing its normal behaviors. If Pikmin are under it, it will spray gas, blare an airhorn, and change its eye color to yellow. While yellow, it plays a more upbeat and striking tune, which it stomps to at a moderate speed. After being in this state for a while, it will briefly pause. Eventually, it will revert to having cyan eyes if no Pikmin are present under it, but if there are, it will again spray its gas, blare an airhorn, and change its eye color, this time to red. While red, it plays a frantic, high-pitched version of the song it plays during its yellow-eyed stage, which it stomps to at a fast speed. After a brief dance, the Groovy Long Legs will stomp with two legs and revert to having cyan eyes.

The Groovy Long Legs returns in Pikmin 2... Again?. It has some changes from its Pikmin 4 incarnation, namely its nineteen eyes have different colors, which represent the Red Pikmin, Yellow Pikmin, Blue Pikmin, Purple Pikmin, White Pikmin, Green Pikmin, Brown Pikmin and Slime Pikmin. It first appears in Banger Disco as the boss of the cave, on a dance floor-themed sublevel. Damaging it requires hitting its eyes with Pikmin of a matching color, and once all of its eyes are black, they will regenerate and be able to be attacked again. However, its electrical wire-like appendages will begin surging with glowing bands of energy that are green at first, then yellow, orange, and finally red, with the speed of the Groovy Long Legs and the bands increasing with each subsequent color. The Groovy Long Legs can still use its confusion attack, or at least one that has a similar effect.

Michael J., known to most by his nickname, “Mike”, is the Groovy Long Legs that appears in Pikmin: Antarctic Survival. Mike is the tyrant of the Ruins of Awakening. Prior to his Awakening, he is referred to as "The Southern Lights", which is his name as a tyrant. Mike is one of the Antarctic's strongest creatures due to his large size, powerful stomp attacks, and potent "dancing gas" which can daze and confuse his enemies. Mike is quite beneficial to Awaken and recruit to the Diamond Settlement, as his enthusiasm is a morale boost to the residents of the settlement, raising the overall quality of the Diamond Settlement.

Strategy
This article or section is currently under construction and being worked on by A Friendly Amprat. We hope to have it completed as soon as possible.
Character information

Mike is quite intense. He almost always speaks in an excited and dramatic tone like he's an announcer for a program. In particular, Mike speaks like a radio announcer, speaking in an animated way and commonly punctuating his words and sentences with various sound effects. Mike can play a variety of sound effects through his head on command, such as an air horn sound, record scratch, various car noises, explosions, sirens, and other jarring and loud blaring sounds. He uses this ability to hype up his speech, and to attempt to spread his enthusiasm to those around him. Mike also often makes his speech sound like it is running through a filter, often adding a lot of echo and reverb to his words, and sometimes changing the pitch of his voice.

Mike is talented at singing and dancing, using his mechanical enhancements to add special flair to his performances. He constantly remixes and mashes up his music in new ways, to keep his performances fresh. As soon as he joins the Diamond Settlement, Mike wants to have a studio structure built for his productions, though the Diamond Settlement doesn't usually have the resources and infrastructure required to support such a building until much after Mike is recruited. Because of this, Mike pitches in helping in settlement development right away, wanting to develop the settlement to a point where the studio can be built.

Mike is very popular among Diamond Settlement residents who are energetic and passionate like he is, but calmer residents can find Mike to be exhausting.

Mike's stated mission in his music career is to spread excitement and heighten joy in the desolate Antarctic, providing much-needed light in the darkness of a harsh and frigid environment. He does what he can to make everything more enjoyable, even routine and tedious tasks such as carrying materials and constructing buildings. Mike wants to make everyone smile, and he will seek out the most upset or downcast residents of the Diamond Settlement and attempt to lift their spirits through his music.

Mike's name, "Michael J.", is a reference to Michael Jackson, one of the most famous singers and dancers of all time. The "J." in his name is apparently short for "Jockey", which is likely due to the fact that Mike is a disc jockey. His nickname, "Mike", besides being short for "Michael", is also short for "microphone", a device used to transmit sound that Mike's head somewhat resembles. Mike's tyrant name is "The Southern Lights", which is drawn from the fact that Mike emits bright light from his head, from the fact that the Ruins of Awakening is the southern region of the Antarctic, and from the Northern Lights, a bright and ethereal display of lights in the sky which occurs in arctic regions similar to the Antarctic.

The Groovy Long Legs! Take out this musical foe! – The ship, upon discovering the Groovy Long Legs

The Groovy Long Legs is a boss in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. The creature resembles most arachnorbs of its species, as its main body is a large orb. The orb of the beast is of a dark blue coloration and is covered in dozens of light blue eyeballs that glow and change color. The orb of the boss is supported by four, large, dark blue legs with dangling strands of its skin. Two of the legs of the Groovy Long Legs are somewhat whittled down and have a white, harder coloration as opposed to its main body. Each foot of each leg has three grey toes.

The Groovy Long Legs can be found resting on a bit of string in its arena, with its feet in the air and its orb facing down on the ground. Once approached, the beast will slam onto the ground, initiating the boss fight with its own funky track. The arachnorb will slam its feet on the ground at different speeds depending on the tempo of the song playing. At a slow tempo, the eyes of the arachnorb will be a blue color, and its feet will stomp slowly. At a faster tempo, the eyes will change to a yellow color, and the stomping will pick up speed. At a super fast tempo, the eyes will turn red, and the arachnorb will slam its feet on the ground at extreme speed. During any time that it's stomping its feet, it may trip and stop moving, which can be a good opportunity to attack. If attacked, or once the Groovy Long Legs gets back up, it will prepare to spray its dancing gas. When sprayed, it will cause any Pikmin affected to dance and jump around for twenty seconds, making them very liable to being crushed.

The Groovy Long Legs can be dangerous to take out. The dancing gas of the beast can affect every Pikmin except for the Echo Pikmin, as they are immune to frenzy and hypnosis. This makes them an exceptional type to take on the boss. Otherwise, using heavy hitter Pikmin like Red Pikmin or Purple Pikmin is also an effective method. Defeating a Groovy Long Legs for the first time will grant the "DJ Disaster" achievement.

In Overlord mode, not only does each tempo of each track increase slightly, but a new track is added. At very low health, the Groovy Long Legs will suddenly turn its eyes into a rainbow color, and it will slam its feet on the ground at record speeds for twenty seconds, slamming each foot on the ground every two seconds. The duration of the dancing gas is also increased by double the time. When defeated, it will drop three Lightbulbtins.

Notes

  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #1: The dancing gas of a Groovy Long Legs can affect most Pikmin. Be careful.
  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #2: Depending on the tempo, the Groovy Long Legs may pick up speed or slow down.
  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #3 (Overlord mode): Watch out for the new Groovy track! It’s so funky, it’s deadly!

Olimar's notes

Each eye of the Groovy Long Legs is fined tune to see its prey from dozens of yards away. It can see in a literal 360-degree angle due to its eye placements. Not only does the stomping of its feet act as a deterrent, but the dancing gas can ward off prey. This specific compound of chemicals will cause sporadic muscle movements in most predators or any creatures that are unfortunate enough to inhale it. It does wear off over time, but it’s more than enough to serve its purpose.

Louie's notes

Inedible. If you eat this, you will be dancing for the next six hours. Don’t ask how I know that.

President’s notes

I could start a dance club with this giant guy! Three Pokos per person! Debt collectors have to pay triple the amount, however...

Overlord’s thoughts

The dancing gas may not have an effect on me, but it is pretty funny to watch these predators dance around in confusion when they dare poke a Groovy Long Legs. A good time waster.

The Disco Long Legs is an arachnorb in Pikmin: Together Forever that has a disco ball for a body, a tangle of wires for legs, and a terrible smell. It appears as the boss of the third sublevel of Dire Party. Its primary attack is stomping about, which can crush any Pikmin under its feet, but it can also spray a kind of spore under itself that confuses Pikmin, making them spin and twirl about around it. Depending on which part of its theme is playing, the Disco Long Legs will change the color of its eye-lights, signifying an attack it is about to use: water, oil, light, void, electricity, fire, earth, and ice. When its eyes glow white, the Disco Long Legs will emit an overwhelming burst of light that instantly vaporizes Black Pikmin. Upon defeat, the tangle of wires acting as the Disco Long Legs' legs will slough off and rapidly decompose and disappear, leaving only its abdomen to collect.

The Disco Long Legs also appears in battle mode. 5 minutes are provided to defeat it, and 2 Purple Pikmin, 5 Red Pikmin, and 3 Yellow Pikmin are available.

When in the vicinity of Disco Long Legs, characters will voice their reactions to the beast:

  • Dingo: This large party ball on wires may seem playful and fun to dance along to, but the smell is horrendous. Like burning metal and rotting meat.
  • Brittany: Oho! I bet Louie would love to try some of this! I can already tell just by the smell that this thing would make a terrible dish.
  • Alph: That smell...
  • Captain Charlie: Phooey, being around this thing makes me feel like when I got eaten by that foul phosbat, but it almost feels worse!
  • Cauliflower, Oatchi, Moss: *Grumble grumble* *whimper*

Notes

Louie's notes

Smells horrid. This being is mostly chewy tendon. Do not eat raw, boil instead. If eaten raw, you will begin spinning and twirling like a little girl for hours. Don't ask how I know, just know that it was embarrassing. Boil the legs in buttered oil, then serve them in an omelet. Do be careful, as the legs may be too big, and could still make you twirl after boiling them. Remember to cut the legs. As for the body, don't even try. It is completely inedible.

Olimar's notes

This being's smell is already a deterrent, let alone its gas that will make even the strongest of predators dance and run around. The glowing crystals within the body serve as eyes. Due to their placement, this monster has some of the best sight that anyone, or anything, could ever think of.

Brittany's notes

Who could ever think any animal or monster could need THAT much protection, I think they're overdoing it.

Peppermint's notes

Possibly the strangest entity I've encountered. I did try to eat it, yes, but that was when I couldn't find the rations at night. Let me just tell you that I was unable to sleep.

StAr.320's notes

Most living entities would consider this inedible junk, but in my observations from my databank, this creature contains mass amounts of sparklium, especially inside the body. This is a specimen that I can say is fascinating. The smell is no issue for me, and neither is dancing, especially if I get to inspect a creature of unknown origins.
