Pikmin ARC is a fan-made game by PLMMJ. It released for the Nintendo Switch. It is a sequel to Pikmin 4, where Koppaite archaeologists investigate the origins of PNF-404 and discover the truth about all those strange artifacts. The gameplay of Pikmin ARC combines elements of the four original games, while adding new types of Pikmin, a new feature to direct where Pikmin carry items, and new, physically dynamic enemies.

Content

Characters

  • Archaeologist – a seasoned Koppaite archaeologist who heads to PNF-404 to research the origins of the artifacts of the planet. Also actually knows how to pilot and land a ship. Acts as the first commander.
  • Captain Brittany – astronaut and veteran of PNF-404, acting as the team's leader and guide. Acts as the second commander.
  • Biologist – a biologist and friend of the archaeologist who came along to study the lifeforms of PNF-404, and to find a way to help the Pikmin live off-world. Acts as the third commander.
  • Scientist – the scientist of the new PNF-404 mission, looking to study the unique Glow Pikmin of the planet. The captain of the night missions.
  • Captain Olimar – the beloved captain of Hocotate Freight who needs no further introduction. Back on PNF-404 for unknown reasons.
Secret characters (contains spoilers)
These characters are revealed through the events of Pikmin ARC, and some reveal spoilers about the plot of Pikmin 4.
  • S.S. Porpoise – the secretly sentient ship used by the crew.
  • Louie – Olimar's gluttonous coworker. After he is saved from the Spiny Mimiroot, he offers missions like in Pikmin 4.
  • Arv – a human scientist that digitized themselves to avoid dying in the fall of the Elysium space station. Helps out the captains after realizing they're not threats, and can later have their hard drive salvaged for the best ending.

Pikmin

Pikmin types are listed by Onion discovery. Because of this, some Pikmin such as White Pikmin are listed much later than they are discovered as they can be produced through candypop buds.

  • Red Pikmin – resistant to fire and lava, and deals more damage.
  • Rock Pikmin – has stronger attacks when charged, can break crystal and ice, immune to crushing attacks.
  • Yellow Pikmin – conducts electricity, can be thrown further, and digs faster.
  • Orange Pikmin – blast- and spike-resistant, these Pikmin can deliver hard hits with their shells.
  • Ice Pikmin – can slow down enemies or work together to freeze water or mud, immune to freezing.
  • Glow Pikmin – only available in night missions. Levitates, making them immune to burial and ground hazards.
  • Blue Pikmin – can move underwater, and are resistant to water in general. Can use water bubbles to protect themselves and strengthen their attacks.
  • Winged Pikmin – weak, but can fly. A bit faster than average, but not faster than White Pikmin.
  • White Pikmin – poisonous, fast, and dig quickly. Obtained at the same time as Purple Pikmin.
  • Purple Pikmin – tough and slow but deals more damage. Has the carry strength of 10 Pikmin.
  • Mosaic Pikmin – resistant to the three main elemental effects as well as light attacks, and can increase the damage of other Pikmin with their attacks. Weak attackers themselves.
Secret Pikmin (contains spoilers)
These types are revealed through the events of Pikmin ARC and play important roles in the story. Neither of these types have Onions.
  • Bulbmin – Parasitic Pikmin that have taken over small Bulborbs. They are resistant to elemental effects and ignored by Bulborb-type enemies except bosses until attacking. These Bulbmin have been mutated by glow sap, and unlike in Pikmin 2, they can be used outside of caves, and serve as an alternative in night missions, though weakened by sunlight.
  • Puffmin – hostile Pikmin created through fungal infection. They keep their original type's traits. Technically, they do have an Onion, but that Onion just so happens to be the final boss.

Bosses

These are the bosses of Pikmin ARC.

Later story bosses (contains spoilers)
These are the main story bosses of the second half of Pikmin ARC. Each of them has a major effect on the plot.
  • Spiny Mimiroot – has trapped Louie, who has an item needed for progression.
  • Mother Slurpier – has swallowed all the Glow Pikmin in the region and must be defeated to move on.
  • Bellskate – is responsible for the deadly tides of the Overgrown Basin and must be defeated to move on..
  • Moldy Bulbear – cannot be hurt before obtaining White Pikmin.
  • Toxic Phosbat – creates the toxic fog over the Deepest Forest and must be defeated to move on.
  • Toxic Progg – optional story boss. Its dropped item is required for the good ending.
  • Chomping Chrysanthemum – feeds on the Mosaic Pikmin and must be defeated to move on.
  • Titan Long Legs – causes the tremors in the Valley of Repose and must be defeated to move on.
  • Toxonion – final boss, and the true reason that Pikmin can't travel outside of PNF-404.
  • Armored Artificer – true final boss, only accessible if most treasures were collected, the Toxic Progg was defeated, and the prior boss was defeated with the strength of 100 Pikmin to carry it to the base.

Minibosses

  • Pileated Snagret – appears as a cave boss and later as a recurring miniboss.
  • Foolix – replaces more and more nectar as the days go by.
    • Greater Foolix – a multinucleated Foolix. Appears as a dungeon boss, and as an outside boss in later areas. Trying to bring it back to the base will cause it to revive and attack.
  • Leech Hydroe – appears to empower other minibosses.
  • Giant Breadbug – show up more after day 21 in brutal difficulty.
  • Decorated Cannon Beetle
  • Hunter-at-Legs – usually show up in groups.

Other bosses

  • Sovereign Bulblax – crops up as a cave boss, and recurring miniboss in the late game.
  • Smoky Progg – passive until attacked if not in egg, overworld only.

Mechanics

Pikmin ARC brings a rework to many series mechanics.

Difficulties

The game has four difficulties:

  • Casual – for new players or those who want an easier game. Enemies are slower and have less health, and days are longer.
  • Normal – Pikmin ARC as it was made to be.
  • Brutal – for experienced players. Enemies are stronger and faster, status effects are much more dangerous, and days are shorter.
  • Ultra-Spicy – a truly extreme difficulty. The time pressure is real as things get much harder and much faster. It is unlocked after beating the game on Brutal difficulty.

Pikmin

Onions return to their Pikmin 3 design, and only up to four types out of the nine can be chosen for a mission. However, Onions will merge on-site. The player can only withdraw 40 Pikmin at first, but this amount can be gradually increased up to 160 by collecting any twelve of the sixteen Flarlics scattered around every area, like in Pikmin 4. Remaining Flarlics are converted to nectar and Pikmin.

Pikmin maturity is changed as well, particularly, there are two new types:

Pikmin stages (contains spoilers)
These new Pikmin stages are a result of plot events.
  • Fertilized – fertilized Pikmin are stronger, though not faster, with a double damage multiplier on their normal attack. They are created when Pikmin are buried by Mamuta.
  • Shiny – shiny Pikmin are stronger and faster, with ×1.5 speed and damage compared to flower Pikmin. They also emit a soft light. They are created when Pikmin drink Lumina sap.

Hazards

This is a list of hazards in Pikmin ARC:

  • Fire – resisted by Red and Mosaic Pikmin. Causes Pikmin to panic and eventually burn up. Ice Pikmin burn faster.
  • Water – resisted by Blue and Mosaic Pikmin. Causes Pikmin to drown.
  • Electricity – resisted by Yellow and Mosaic Pikmin. Stuns and almost immediately kills Pikmin.
  • Poison – resisted by White Pikmin. Causes Pikmin to panic and choke.
  • Blunt force – resisted by Rock and Winged Pikmin. Blunt force hazards are rare, but instantly crush and kill Pikmin.
  • Light – resisted by Mosaic Pikmin. Confuses Pikmin, but never fatal.
  • Spike – resisted by Rock Pikmin. Impale and quickly kill Pikmin.
  • Ice – resisted by Ice Pikmin. Freezes Pikmin, but only fatal if they fall. Winged Pikmin will die instantly.

Days

A day lasts 18 minutes on Casual, 15 on Normal and Ultra-Spicy, and 12 on Brutal. The first half of the game has a Pikmin 1-esque time limit, with the player having 20 days until their ship's power runs out. The game becomes more open-ended after the Shinestack Aristocrab is defeated and the day limit ceases.

There are also dawn and dusk sequences at the start and end of a day, each lasting 1 minute on Casual or Normal, 1:30 on Brutal, and 2:30 for Ultra-Spicy. During these sequences, the world is more dangerous, as flowers aren't yet blooming, and enemies are in a semi-frenzy due to the ending or coming of night.

The world also changes as the days go by, in the following ways:

Day effects (contains spoilers)
These changes happen across the days.
  • Day 9+: Bogswallows begin spawning in the Garden of Hope.
  • Days 11, 21, 31, etc.: Swarming Shearmites show up outside of major boss arenas.
  • Day 17+: Dwarf Coolixes start spawning in the Distant Tundra and Arachnodes begin spawning in the Garden of Hope.
  • Day 21: a tree in Serene Shores falls over, creating a quick route.
  • Day 22+ in Brutal and Ultra-Spicy: Giant Breadbugs appear outside in all areas.
  • Day 24+: Breadbugs begin appearing in all areas.
  • Day 27+: moldy enemies will begin appearing more in the Deepest Forest.
  • As days go by, more and more nectar is replaced with Foolix and Greater Foolix minibosses. This doesn't apply in the final area.

Trivia

  • This page was first made by copying, editing, and expanding the first part of Pikmin Forever's page.
  • Many of the balance changes to Pikmin were inspired by the YouTuber SilokHawk.
  • Orange Pikmin in this game were borrowed with permission and slightly changed from Pikmin 8: The World Beyond.
