The Mamuta is a fairly large, seemingly rocky or hairy, creature and has two small eyes with dark markings around each one. Its body is notably asymmetrical with large, muscular arms that have strange markings around the wrists. Mamutas in Pikmin 1 are neutral, simply standing still and watching Pikmin that walk by; if any harm comes to it, however, it becomes enraged and attacks. In Pikmin 2, despite being initially so gentle that Unmarked Spectralids can land on them, Mamutas become aggressive when so much as approached. These creatures attack by pounding Pikmin into the ground. This doesn't kill them but replants them, and flowers by some unknown process. Leaders, as opposed to Pikmin, do take damage from Mamuta attacks.

The Mamuta, in Pikmin: Hybrids, appears in an area named after it and behaves slightly differently. They actively guard a small plot of land occupied by Pikmin sprouts and attack Olimar when he steps onto it. After they are defeated, he can safely pluck the sprouts to supplement his Pikmin population.
