The Tropical Blinnow is a elips found in the files of Hey! Pikmin. It has a rather colorful appearance; a red body with a vibrant blue stripe along the length of either side of it, a white underbelly, large, black eyes, orange fins, white lips, and an elongated, blue mouth containing several sharp teeth. It would have swum about underwater, occasionally stopping to idle, and rushing towards nearby Pikmin and leaders to attack them with its mouth.

Attacks Eats Pikmin

The Tropical Blinnow is a slightly larger relative of the Puckering Blinnow found in Pikmin Eco. They are a fully aquatic species, and as such are unable to be found anywhere on land. They move slowly, but once leaders or their Pikmin are in range, they will rush forward with their mouths wide open, snapping and eating any Pikmin that get caught in their way. They can be defeated fairly quickly with a swarm of Blue Pikmin.

Notes

In-game entry

This specialized species is an ambush predator and lies in wait to ambush smaller aquatic creatures rather than swiftly swimming after prey. This subspecies has only recently evolved from a freshwater blinnow to life out in the coastal shallows, its colorful shimmering scales used as camouflage in the shallow rock pools where it lives. Males of the species have brighter scales than females, used for courtship to attract mates but leaves them more noticeable to larger predators.

Attacks Eats Pikmin

The Tropical Blinnow appears in Pikmin: Wide World as a larger, more dangerous member of the elips family. They may be found only underwater, swimming about the deeper parts of the waterbody in groups of three to five individuals. Upon detecting movement by Pikmin or leaders in a body of water they are in, a school of Tropical Blinnows will gravitate towards their location, and upon seeing those Pikmin or leaders, descend upon them. A Tropical Blinnow is able to grab up to four Pikmin in its jaws, then swimming a distance away to devour them all at once before returning for more, and simply bites nearby leaders instead of taking them away beforehand. However, instead of biting Pikmin or leaders, a Tropical Blinnow may instead ram into them at a high speed to knock them back and temporarily incapacitate them. A Tropical Blinnow may also leap out of the water to catch a few Pikmin if a considerable amount of them are above it, although it cannot leap far out of water. Tropical Blinnows will also refuse to enter shallows unless forced to. If somehow forced onto dry land, a Tropical Blinnow will flop around helplessly, eventually suffocating until it dies should it not make its way into the water again.

Tropical Blinnows are colorful creatures, befitting of their name. They are somewhat small in size and have a long, red body featuring two cyan stripes on either side of the top half that span the entire length of their body from their long mouth to their tail. They have a white underbelly, white lips, orange fins, and relatively large eyes that have a black pupil and white sclera. Their blue mouth contains several sharp, white teeth.

Although Tropical Blinnows may be small and easy to take down, they pose an incredible threat to Pikmin and leaders alike. They take Pikmin away from the battle to eat them quickly before returning to get more, and they may charge into its attackers to knock them down and make them easy prey. A Tropical Blinnow that has Pikmin in its mouth will release them from its grip after taking enough damage, rushing away before rushing towards its attackers to bite them as a counterattack. As Tropical Blinnows have such devastating bites, it is recommended that involved leaders wear any tier of the Metal Suit Z. Upon death, a Tropical Blinnow yields HP Sparklium icon.png × 2. Aboveground, its body can be taken to either the Dolphin Lander for P3 Poko icon.png × 2 or the Master Onion for three Pikmin seeds. Underground, its body can be brought to the Lander Pod to either receive P3 Poko icon.png × 2 or be stored to later gain two seeds of any chosen main discovered Pikmin species, but only if the cave is exited using an escape geyser.

Notes

Olimar's notes

The small size and innocent appearance of the tropical blinnow is deceiving, as this creature is a vicious predator. It is never found alone, and explores its entire territory with its group in search of prey to tear apart using its sharp teeth.

Shacho's notes

Even with how sharp this creature's teeth are, I'm sure people would want blinnow-tooth necklaces, right?

Marie's notes

Tropical blinnows are extremely aggressive, and even after taming, they are prone to snapping at their owners. Their aggressive tendencies, long, strong jaws, and immense bite force require owners to take extreme caution in handling them.

Louie's notes

This beast yields little meat, but what meat it does have is tangy with a bitter aftertaste. Its fins complement its taste perfectly.

Dolphin Lander's notes

I think my favorite behavioral characteristic exhibited by the tropical blinnow is it periodically ramming into prey with its long snout to knock them down and back a distance.
