The Thieving Snagpie is a snagret with a black beak and head and black scales and white patterns; overall, it resembles an common magpie. Different from the regular snagret, instead of remaining stationary and ambushing Pikmin, it looks for treasure in its surrounding environment. Approximately every two minutes, if there is a treasure on the ground, it will burrow up from beneath it and swallow it whole. It targets treasures near Leaders more often, and more so to the active leader. When it eats a treasure, the treasure becomes lodged in the creature's throat, causing it to get stuck in the ground for a couple of seconds, leaving it vulnerable to attack. It has a nest similar to the dens of most Breadbugs, which appears to be made from packed mud and sticks. When a Pikmin is thrown at the hole, the Thieving Snagpie, now hostile, emerges and attacks like a regular snagret. This creature has slightly less health than a typical snagret.
Notes
Olimar's notes
- “This slightly smaller member of the snavian family has a peculiar attraction to shiny objects. It often goes out of its way to search its range for any treasures laying around. In this way, it is similar to the breadbug, and it also shares the characteristic of having a noticeable burrow. The similarities end there. This snavian burrows from the ground directly below the treasure to carry it back to its den in its stomach. It often gets stuck in the ground when trying to return, as it adjusts poorly to the added weight and change in size.”
Louie's notes
- “Its meat is rather plain and lacks notable texture. But, its sharp beak and shining scales make interesting decorative utensils.”
Shacho's notes
- “These things remind me of my times at Hocotate after the space bunny incident. I have to watch my treasure carefully. Although these could prove useful if trained to only steal from competitors.”
