“ | Many a mouth to feed down here. Beneath the harsh, orange sands is a network of tunnels home to squirming, large-mouthed beasties. It is an endeavor with more to consider than what was seen back in the forest, but believe in yourself. Colonial Burrows is the first cave in Sweltering Field in Pikmin: Interstellar Cryptid. It fills a niche similar to the Hole of Beasts in Pikmin 2 and the Fang Chute in Pikmin: Shipwrecked Stargazers; a small, second cave that introduces the basic layout of the caves to come. It is very short, clocking in at three measly sublevels. Visually, it resembles a termite mound from the inside, foreshadowing its boss. Completion of this cave to its full extent will net the "Witchetty Grubbed" badge.
How to reach
On the second day, when Bentley lands in the Sweltering Field for the first time, the entrance to Colonial Burrows is past a dirt gate to the left of a Red Bulborb not too far from the landing site. Eloise is also found at the entrance to this cave.
Sublevel 1
- Theme: Termite mound
- Music: Curiosity
- Enemies:
- Dumpuff × 1
- Dwarf Red Bulborb × 3
- Peeper × 4
- Obstacles:
- Fragment bridge (red) × 1
- Numbered gate × 1
This simple sublevel begins with an aiming test chamber: defeat all four Peepers, and a gate will open. In the main sublevel, there are a few Dwarf Red Bulborbs. To make it to the hole deeper, a raised plateau must be accessed, from which the only Pikmin 3-style fragment bridge can be found and built. It leads to another plateau with the hole deeper. A Dumpuff next to this hole holds a dollop of nectar, so don't pass this literal golden opportunity up.
Sublevel 2
- Theme: Termite mound
- Music: Curiosity
- Fruit:
- Face Wrinkler × 1
- Enemies:
- Bulborb Larva × 5
- Female Sheargrub × 2
- Red Bulborb × 1
- Skitter Leaf × 3
- Obstacles:
- Fire geyser × 3
- Others:
- Nectar egg × 2 (small)
This sublevel starts in a circular chamber, a pathway with a fire geyser leads to a room with five Bulborb Larvae lurching in a circle around a Face Wrinkler. Another pathway blocked by a fire geyser leads to a chamber with a few Female Sheargrubs and a Red Bulborb. Finally, a last pathway with a fire geyser leads to a smaller chamber with the hole deeper and a few Skitter Leaves.
Sublevel 3
- Theme: Termite mound
- Music: Encroaching Disaster (before boss appears), Boss - Australian Mix (during boss battle), none (after defeat of boss)
- Ship parts:
- Fruit:
- Sunseed Berry × 1
- Enemies:
- Bulborb Larva × indefinite (falls from ceiling during boss fight)
- Empress Bulblax × 1
- Obstacles:
- Numbered gate × 1
- Other:
- Nectar egg × 2
The very last sublevel holds the queen of the colony: an Empress Bulblax. She doesn't actively give birth, but her brood does sometimes fall from the ceiling during the fight. When defeated, she'll drop a Sunseed Berry, and the gate behind her will lower. Walking down the winding hallway full of desiccated skin, the Topographical Marvel will soon be discovered. It upgrades the S.S. Lacewing's radar, unlocking Artisan Aqueduct. Eloise picks up an anonymous signal from the newfound region, and the couple agrees to investigate tomorrow. But for now, the vent to escape the cave is in clear sight.
