The Shockspire Splurchin is a species of stationary splurchin appearing in Pikmin Evolution. It looks less like a sea urchin and more like a stalagmite made out of pink coral or gray granite, depending on its location. Its main feature is the singular golden eye at the top of its body, somewhat giving it the appearance of a lighthouse. It's a stationary enemy often found in caves, but can also be found underneath large rocks or tree stumps, often found sticking to the floor, walls, or even the ceiling. No two Shockspire Splurchins in a group are the same height, with some being as tall as a Elongated Mockiwi while others are as short as a Breadbug, but all of them are masters of electricity. When something such as a Pikmin or leaders enters its territory, a Shockspire Splurchin will flash its eye before firing a continuous laser beam of electrical energy at them for as long as it can see them. The laser is highly accurate and will shock almost any Pikmin that touches it, requiring the captain to whistle their Pikmin to safety before they burn up and die from the continuous voltage. The main body of the Shockspire Splurchin is immune to damage but it can be chipped away to temporarily shorten its height. Thus must be done to taller Shockspire Splurchins to reach their eye, their sole weakpoint, but since it's constantly covered in electricity, only Wisp Pikmin can damage it. After some time, a structurally-damaged Shockspire Splurchin will scatter sand and push nearby Pikmin back while it rebuilds its form, requiring chipping away at it again. A full squad of Wisp Pikmin makes fighting a Shockspire Splurchin very one-sided as it lacks any other way of attacking the squad, so the Wisp Pikmin are free to attack the Splurchin at no risk of being killed. Upon defeat, the tower making up its body collapses, and the eye can be collected. Overall, the Shockspire Splurchin is very easy to take down with the right tools, but very dangerous otherwise.

Notes

Ivy's journal

The Splurchins that left land seem to have been mainly extinct for a while. Most of them, however, have been able to survive through mimicry of stalactites on cave ceilings. These strange animals can utilize the abundance of electricity in their eye to fire out laser-like volts at any predators that come near. This is due to the numerous amounts of hair found around the eye after I took one to study.

Leni's recipe book

The rock on this animal must be removed before harvesting the eye. Take the eye and mash it up to add with rice, broccoli, and many spices. It makes a good, healthy meal for any Pikmin.

Marvin's strategy guide

Geez, even the rocks in caves aren't safe anymore! These masters of disguise seem to shock our troops with their weird eye abilities. Our best bet is to get our Wisp Pikmin to attack them since they seem to be unaffected by them.
