The Vegemite Breadbug is an enemy in Pikmin: Interstellar Cryptid. It resembles a standard Breadbug but with pale grey skin, orange eyes, and a significant underbite. Its hide is beige on the bottom, but with glossy black splotch patterns on the top. It gives the appearance of the creature being coated in vegemite, a foodstuff common in Australia but divisive everywhere else. It acts typical of a Breadbug, taking things to its den, shaking Pikmin off of its catches, and panicking when attacked. What sets the Vegemite Breadbug apart is its constant foul odor; an orange cloud is emitted from the top of its hide, the smell of which makes most Pikmin flee from its vicinity. Worse still, the musk completely coats whatever it grabs until it lets go, meaning Pikmin won't even go to grab it. Pumpkin Pikmin are effectively noseblind due to the massive gourd shells they wear, so they can be used to take the objects back instead.

Notes

Olimar's notes

The cinnamon breadbug's closest relative is the vegemite breadbug. As with its illustrious, saccharine relative, the vegemite breadbug produces natural musks to communicate with its kin. These scents are much more odiferous compared to the cinnamon breadbug, with notes of sulfur being especially prevalent. It's because of this that predators seldom ever target this inconspicuous morsel, and unlike its cousin, their species is flourishing as a result.

Louie's notes

Umami...? Umami...? Umami.....? Chicken..........?

Even I'm at a loss of words. Happened sooner than I expected too, really.

Bentley's notes

Some people find it appalling, but I for one like the spunk this creature has. It makes me hungry, even! I wish Louie wasn't so confused about it himself, I'd expect him to be an expert on these sorts of things.

Eloise's notes

It's times like this where I ask myself, "Where's the Scent Rejuvenator when we need it!?", because this creature just smells... kinda bad.
