The Emperor Bulblax usually hides in the ground to ambush prey, catching them with its long, sticky tongue. Its soft face is its only weak point to attack, but since it doesn't discriminate much when eating things, it can be led to swallow something a bit less tasteful than Pikmin: namely, bomb rocks.

In the story serial
An Emperor Bulblax has appeared in the story serial of Pikmin: Mysterious World. It was apparently the same Emperor Bulblax that swallowed the Secret Safe. It claimed it had been killed, a seeming paradox since it should not be alive to tell if it was killed. An explanation has not yet been given.
Notably, the Emperor Bulblax was called the "Ancient One". It is unknown if this is its real name or just a title given to it by the Intelligence.
Interestingly, the Emperor Bulblax smelled Sagittarius and mistook him for Olimar. Sagittarius is Olimar's son, which is likely the reason behind the mistake.

In [[Pikmin Chronicles[[, an Emperor Bulblax serves as the first boss, appearing towards the end of chapter one. It is found buried in the ground on the last sublevel of the cave it is in, with both its eyes and moss-covered back exposed. The Pikmin walk up to it, unaware of what it is until it is too late. It initially is too strong to kill and must be fled from by escaping the cave. Once on the surface, the ground shakes and a loud roar is heard. A few seconds later, the upset Emperor Bulblax bursts through the ground and terrorizes the landing site, which is where the boss battle takes place, It is about the same size as the one in Pikmin 1 and is killed the same way. After it is killed, its body is taken away, and it is realized that the hole the Emperor Bulblax created when it busted through the ground has opened up a new path.

The Emperor Bulblax appears in Pikmin Eco as the main boss of the Bulblax Treetops dungeon of Bounty Canopy. It is exceptionally larger than any other Bulborb species in the game. It and the Hex-at-Legs are the only bosses that the Hoverpack is required to fight against.
Like in previous games, it buries itself underground when first found, only its eyestalks visible. It will remain inactive until the player gets close or throws a Pikmin close enough to it, which then it will burst out of the ground to attack. Like previous games, its main attack is launching its large tongue out to slurp up unsuspecting Pikmin, but also after shaking off some Pikmin, it will jump into the air and slam onto the ground. This attack will make Pikmin launch back, but will also paralyze the player for a short bit, also dealing slight damage.
It has a very hard hide, so you're only able to attack it from the front. Also, the player will need to use the Hoverpack in order to stay off the ground whenever it slams into the ground to avoid damage.
Notes
In-game entry
- “The Emperor Bulblax is the largest known male species of the Grub-Dog family, only smaller than the Empress Bulblax. It's intriguing how this species tends to grow much larger when growing above ground whereas the size severely decreases for those who live underground. This has been classified as "environmentally effective growth", as smaller subspecies are better fitted to live underground than larger ones, who themselves are more durable due to competition for food. It buries itself out of sight and only attacks once a prey items gets close.”
