Appearance in Pikmin 2.
Scientific name Pseudoarachnia navaronia
Family Arachnorb

The Man-at-legs is a member of the arachnorb family that has no footpads to stomp on Pikmin using, and instead relies on its long-ranged attacks and speed, quickly skittering about to evade attacks but occasionally standing still to rest. When agitated, it stops in place, the panels of its underbelly separate, and a machine gun-like weapon extends from between them, tracking a nearby target by a laser sight before firing a barrage of explosive rounds at it. After firing a few dozen shots, with minimal breaks in between, it sheathes its weapon before continuing to move about. Cover can be used as protection from the projectiles, although they can simply be evaded.

Notes

Olimar's observations

This creature is truly one of the strangest creatures I've seen anywhere on this planet. I can't say that I understand how it works. It doesn't seem much different from last time, but that doesn't make it any less threatening. How does it manage to shoot at Pikmin without end? Shouldn't it have some sort of ammunition? I really wish that we knew more about this strange thing.

Cookin' with Louie

Although the meat is a bit on the metallic side, the oil makes a mouthwatering gravy or lubricative vinaigrette.

The Man-at-Legs, in Pikmin: The After Years, is the same as it is in Pikmin 2. The one in Remembrance Ravine fires more projectiles than usual.

Attacks Fires explosive projectiles

In Pikmin: Dimensional Breach, a single Man-at-Legs lurks at the very bottom of the Mad Doctor's Citadel, a dungeon in the Perplexing Tropics. It is identical to its Pikmin 2 appearance, with one additional stipulation: its bullets are classified as blunt force hazards. Thus, Rock Pikmin will not be damaged by the bullets, although they can still be knocked into the abyss by the force they exert. Upon death, the creature will spray out steam and explode, leaving behind the Forgotten Cutlass.

Notes

Olimar's observations

Man-at-Legs. Pseudoarachnia navaronia. Arachnorb family. This species of arachnorb fuses with machinery at a crucial point in its maturation process, allowing it to fire high-velocity rounds from the weapon encased within its torso. However, the Man-at-Legs itself is not in direct control of the weapon; rather, the weapon itself seems to autonomously acquire and attack targets. The Man-at-Legs itself has a gentle disposition, and as a member of the arachnorb family, it has no natural enemies. It is difficult to understand why such a docile species would suddenly develop such impressive offensive capabilities. The prevailing theory earlier on, when the species was first discovered, was that the machine had approached the beast first and proposed the symbiosis, but further review and new evidence have suggested that it may have been an artificial species entirely, although what the purpose of such a creation would be is still up for debate.

Louie's cookbook

The meat itself is fine, but it leaves a metallic aftertaste in your mouth. However, one creative way to use the beast is to siphon the oil from the mostly-mechanical lower half of its chassis, mix it with Dijon mustard, salt, and ground black pepper, and serve it as a dressing on your favorite salad.

Sagittarius' taming notes

As awesome as having a pet with a literal machine gun mounted on its belly might sound, the weapon fires and attacks independently of its host. Not counting the gun's tendency to fire on anything in sight, the insect itself is incredibly docile and sweet to have around. I'd recommend investing in a computer programmer to "train" the weapon before coming to a definitive decision on whether the Man-at-Legs is the right pet for you.

Libra's fashion guide

One would think that an arachnorb wouldn't have much to offer fashion-wise, but the distinct grayish-green of the metallic plating gave me an idea. That color would be absolutely perfect for the military, or for anyone who needs to sneak around in the dark and still be protected from harm. Unfortunately, metalworking is not my forte, so I might need some help with designing the armor made from this contraption.

Charlie's battle comments

Most of the monsters that have attacked us on this planet have had two things in common: they mean to do it, and they use all-natural means to decimate our Pikmin squads. The Man-at-Legs has neither going for it: not only does it carry a firearm with it at all times, but according to Olimar, it has zero control over what it shoots with its weapon. If this is the state that evolution is going towards, then I believe that we are doing the creature mercy by taking it down. Thankfully, despite being plated in metal, the creature's chassis is just as vulnerable to Pikmin as any monster on this planet.

Derrick's grimoire

Do I even need to say why I elected to hide the Forgotten Cutlass inside this mechanical monstrosity or did you just sort of skim through everyone else's notes? GUN. Enough said.
