Rock Pikmin are the seventh type of Pikmin announced for the Pikmin series, found in Pikmin 3 and first seen at E3 2012. Their appearance is unlike that of most other Pikmin: their bodies consist of a roughly-shaped piece of rock with transparent appendages, and their flowers, along with Winged Pikmin, are indigo instead of pink or white.
Rock Pikmin are a species of Pikmin with the special abilities of blunt force immunity and a different method of attacking. When crushed, they are simply driven into the ground and become temporarily partially buried; when a creature with a sharp proboscis tries to impale them, they are simply knocked away harmlessly. They resemble small polished rocks with Pikmin eyes and limbs and have lavender petals, like Winged Pikmin. The main part of their bodies seems to be a graphite texture that reflects light, whereas their stems, arms, and legs appear to be smooth and gray. Rock Pikmin have an Onion and are reproduced from it through collecting nutrients from pellets and corpses or by throwing other Pikmin into Gray Candypop Buds.

Their hard, rotund exoskeleton allows them to crack and eventually destroy crystalline solids, but prevents them from clinging on to most matter. When thrown towards an enemy or obstacle, they will bounce off and roll backward, inflicting a significant amount of damage that is often sufficient in defeating some smaller enemies in a single hit. Otherwise, they will repeatedly attack enemies and obstacles by charging head-on into them, rolling backward, and getting up again, doing less damage over time than other Pikmin types due to the lower attack rate. As such, the best way to attack with Rock Pikmin is to have leaders throw them, which causes more damage than a regular lunge. That said, when made to climb a structure or plant, or are attacking another Pikmin, they will cling on like the other Pikmin types, and they won't lunge except when attacking a leader.

Rock Pikmin are first discovered at the Garden of Hope as the second type of Pikmin encountered in the game, found inside a Medusal Slurker. Once the Medusal Slurker is defeated, they can be used to free their Onion from a Crystal Nodule, allowing more Rock Pikmin to be grown. At the end of the day, as with other Onions, it will merge with the red Onion.

Rock Pikmin are the fourth kind of pikmin discovered in Pikmin: Before the Impact and are the only pikmin that hasn't evolved through the games. They can break Glass and Crystal with their hard, shiny bodies but their limbs and stems seem to be a dull black colour and on its head rests a dark green leaf or a purple bud or flower. Rock Pikmin are found in Snakey Mists trapped inside a Medusal Slurker and can only be created when any other pikmin are sucked up by a Medusal Slurker. Under the command of Brandon, Rock Pikmin have increased speed and can be thrown higher. He is the kind of guy that sleeps till mid-afternoon but can work hard when he wants to; he may look as "cold as stone" but he is surprisingly cuddly!

In Pikmin: Treasure Colonization, Rock Pikmin are the fourth Pikmin type discovered and appear and function exactly as they do in p3. They have purple petals, inflict high damage when thrown but only above average damage when lunging, can only latch on to targets in specific circumstances, and can destroy crystal and glass. Rock Pikmin are thirty millimeters tall, and while under the effects of ultra-sour spray, have a carrying capacity of five.
*Size: Body Length: 30mm
*Sour Spray Carrying Capacity: 5

Rock Pikmin have two types of damage amounts, the throw, and the normal attack. When thrown, they deal great amount of damage, while if they attack on their own, they only deal just about above average damage. There is only a certain amount of times in which this Pikmin grabs on to attack. They have the ability to break Crystal and Glass objects. Their flower's pedals take on a purple color. They are the fourth to be discovered.

Rock Pikmin are not a type of Pikmin in Pikmin Forever per se, but rather an enhancement of other types. Finding and harvesting rubble gives the leaders a storage of rocks, which they can use whenever they are holding a Pikmin for throwing. By pressing WiiU Padup.png while a Pikmin is held, it will be coated in rocks, becoming a temporary "Rock Pikmin". Rock Pikmin are thrown like a track-and-field hammer, and inflict 100 damage when they impact. If thrown, a Rock Pikmin will revert back to its original Pikmin on impact, no matter what it hit. If WiiU Padup.png is pressed again while holding a Rock Pikmin, or if the type of Pikmin is switched, the Pikmin will also revert and the rock coating will be earned back, so as not to waste a Rock Pikmin.

One Rock Pikmin can instantly destroy a crystal barrier, and inflict serious damage on other types of destructible walls. Rock Pikmin are needed to activate acoustic walls. Some enemies behave differently after suffering a hit from a Rock Pikmin, especially if they used crystal in some way.

Notes

Captain Olimar

These Pikmin have an exterior that resembles the look of a rock! This gives them their name, however, I'm still researching how and why they have such a body. What's even more surprising is that they rarely use their stem other than for sunlight.

Tang

My second favorite in combat, they deal massive damage when thrown. Being in numbers and charging is also a very viable strategy. Combine these guys with Purple Pikmin or Red Pikmin and you can have yourself power in either charging or throwing!

Robin

Their rock-like bodies are fascinating to me, as I wonder if there is any other Pikmin that is like this. What if a Ruby Pikmin exists? Or an Emerald Pikmin? Maybe even a Diamond Pikmin? And with such ideas of having Pikmin with the capability to have differentiating bodies, I wonder if there is a Tree Pikmin? How about a Robot Pikmin?
