The Pixel Pikmin is a mysterious "Pikmin" type introduced in Pikmin 2... Again?. It is a lifeform resembling an aquamarine Pikmin made of voxels, like out of an old video game. Also, the color of its petals matches its body's, and it has transparent sclerae with aquamarine pupils. Like the Cursed Pikmin, the Pixel Pikmin is exclusive to certain game modes, namely Timed Mode and Versus Mode, making them non-canon to the main story, just like the Walking Golden Pikpik Carrot. Appearance-wise, Pixel Pikmin are comparable to Danificritters.

Pixel Pikmin, compared to other Pikmin types, take a substantial amount of time to move, but when they do, they teleport to the place they would be if they had walked normally. They also have a low hit rate but have no advantages to counteract it. Pixel Pikmin also can not be thrown as normal; rather, they hover forward slowly and then back and forth at a certain distance in a straight line, a state in which they phase through anything. Once the Switch A.png is released, the Pixel Pikmin will teleport to where they were, making them useful due to their ability to pass through walls. As an extreme downside, Pixel Pikmin will die instantly if affected by any hazard whatsoever, even ones that are normally nonlethal such as panic, smoke, ice, wither, and even some forms of knockback. They also have a unique, wholly aesthetic death animation, that being to burst into small pixels that then disappear, rather than disappearing and leaving behind an ascending soul, similar to the Walking Golden Pikpik Carrot. Overall, Pixel Pikmin are very fragile and must be taken great care of.

Just like the Danificritter, the Pixel Pikmin is based on retro games, which had simple pixel art as graphics. Their voxel artstyle is also a reference to Pac-Man 256, and their death animation is heavily inspired by Pac-Man's in that game.

Pixel Pikmin are Pikmin in Pikmin: Voyage in Space that do not physically exist. They are first found on the screen of the Retroputer, which displays an 8-bit Pikmin game title screen. After obtaining the treasure, Pixel Mode becomes available. It allows for the use of Pixel Pikmin, as the Captains in the Voyager, the main ship. Pixel Pikmin come in multiple colors:

  • Reds are immune to fire and lava and can create bridges when thrown on lava.
  • Blues are immune to water and ice and can create bridges when thrown on water.
  • Yellows are immune to acid and electricity and can create bridges when thrown on acid.
  • Purples are immune to blunt force and radiation.
  • Whites are immune to poison and air attacks and are much faster than other types of Pixel Pikmin.

Pixel Pikmin all have the same throw speed, throw height, mobility, damage, attack speed, and knockback resistance. The only exception is with White Pixel Pikmin, which have a higher mobility. Pixel Pikmin that are subject to wind will be knocked over and lose their flowers. White Pixel Pikmin are immune to being knocked over by wind, and Purple Pixel Pikmin are immune to getting knocked over by force.

The Pixel Mode stages are nearly the same as the Collect Treasure! Missions, but have ship parts rather than treasures. The Pixel Mode stages use Louie and Olimar as the captains.
