Inventory appearance in Pikmin 4. |
Pikpik carrots are vegetables native to Hocotate, the planet famous for them. A valuable variety of pikpik carrots that are completely golden, aptly named golden pikpik carrots, are longer than the normal variety and have three curled roots instead of the basic cone-shaped or forked root. The Pikmin got their name from Olimar, who believes that they resemble pikpik carrots.
In Pikmin 2, pikpik carrots, specifically the golden ones, spur the events of the story, as Louie is instructed to deliver them but is reportedly attacked by a ravenous space bunny that supposedly eats them all. Orange pikpik carrots can be thrown at enemies in the Piklopedia to see their reactions, such as moving around or waking up, or eating and attacking the carrots. In Pikmin 4, pikpik carrots can be crafted with raw material and be used to briefly distract enemies, and temporarily stun enemies that eat them with their bitter flavor.

Pikpik carrots return in Pikmin 2... Again?. They can not only be thrown in the Piklopedia but can also be obtained as a Pikmin, the Walking Golden Pikpik Carrot, by completing the story 100%. Them being an actual Pikmin type is a reference to how they are Pikmin types in Pikmin 2, and Pikmin 3 to a lesser extent, for technical reasons. They act similarly as well, lacking any hazards resistances and with average statistics. They are also entirely golden, defined by light yellow coloring, including their stem, leaf, bud, and flower. Pikpik carrots can be made by pressing when not near a Pikmin sprout and under the Onion's beacon. Pikpik carrots appear in some Timed Mode stages. Strangely, even though they are not technically Pikmin, they somehow are converted by candypop buds, unlike the Bulbmin and Glow Pikmin.
Originally, pikpik carrots were going to be orange and be named Walking Pikpik Carrots, but ended up not being either due to Claw Pikmin also being orange.
Notes
Olimar's notes
- “After completing the last cave we found, Louie just gave me... Walking golden pikpik carrots... I don't know where or how he even got something like that. All I know is that I got that as a reward.”
