(**SPOILERS**) Description of the boss
The Ancient Sirehound is a giant space dog speculated to be the ancestor of all space dogs, including Oatchi and Moss. While thought to be rather gentle, Louie somehow drives it into a rampage, making it incredibly dangerous due to its size and its ability to use several hazards. Defeating the Ancient Sirehound involves pulling on its tail to make it flip over, exposing its vulnerable belly, as the rest of its body is covered in thick fur, and its attacks become more dangerous the lower its health dwindles. Upon defeat, depending on its locale, it may either run away, or simply fall asleep.

The beast starts the battle mainly by attacking with a forward charge, during which it can not turn very quickly but will eat Pikmin it runs into, and a jumping slam, causing stalactites to fall from the ceiling. It can also swipe at Pikmin that are too close to it.

In the second phase, the Ancient Sirehound may produce a spread of five bouncing snowballs, and a long-range ice breath attack. If it freezes any Pikmin, it will follow up with a charge in their direction. From this phase onward, Pikmin that touch any part of the Ancient Sirehound other than its tail will be afflicted with the hazard it is currently using.

In the third phase, the Ancient Sirehound will begin using electricity. It starts by spitting up three electrified hairballs that generate electricity in a spinning cross shape until they are destroyed. It may also perform a dash while electrified, then return to the arena's center to produce a set of electric fields around itself, during which it will be immobile. Starting from this phase, the Ancient Sirehound will hold its tail out of reach unless forced not to.

In the fourth phase, the Ancient Sirehound showcases its ability to use fire. It may spit fireballs, produce flaming shockwaves by stomping on the ground, and spit up burning hairballs that themselves produce flaming shockwaves.

In the fifth and final phase, the Ancient Sirehound, rather than immediately use any sort of hazard, inexplicably takes flight. It then lobs gloom projectiles that engulf a circular area in which they land, and can project a beam of gloom in a line towards Pikmin and leaders. At low health, the Ancient Sirehound will unleash a roar to panic Pikmin, and may quickly reposition itself to keep away from them and leaders.

Fluffy, also known as Gloomprowler, is the Ancient Sirehound that appears in Pikmin: Antarctic Survival. Fluffy is the tyrant of the Ancestral Hunting Ground, and normally the only creature which can be encountered there. Prior to his Awakening, he is referred to by his tyrant name, "Apex Predator".

Fluffy is considered the strongest of all the Antarctic's tyrants, as he is massive, incredibly strong, and able to use four different hazards, in addition to powerful mist manipulation. His battle has five distinct phases, identical to the fight against the Ancient Sirehound in Pikmin 4. He is actually that same dog, having ended up in the Antarctic in Antarctic Survival's timeline and claimed the Ancestral Hunting Ground as his territory. Fluffy is the most difficult to Awaken of any potential resident in the Antarctic, as his body has a natural resistance to Awakening Essence. Fluffy is an incredibly valuable creature as a resident for a variety of reasons, including his strong sense of smell, his carry strength of one hundred, which is stronger than any other creature in the whole of the Antarctic, and ability to use the rare gloom hazard. Additionally, removing the threat of the Apex Predator is incredibly beneficial to the residents of the Diamond Settlement, as he is the sole guardian of the Ancestral Hunting Ground, which contains some of the most valuable resources in the Antarctic that can be easily collected once the tyrant has been defeated.

Strategy

This article or section is currently under construction and being worked on by A Friendly Amprat. We hope to have it completed as soon as possible.

Fluffy is incredibly powerful as a tyrant, having a total of 450 hit points across all five phases of his boss fight and a variety of devastatingly powerful attacks depending on the phase. It is not recommended to engage in a battle with this tyrant without a team consisting of at least three other Awakened tyrants, several other boss creatures, and preferably a substantial amount of combat items such as bomb rocks, lightning shocks, and equipped head cannons. Also, the player should not even attempt to Awaken the tyrant until at least the fourth phase, as his natural resistance to Awakening means that his Awakening percentage will drop each turn by up to five percent. This resistance is weakened as the fight progresses, as it drops by one percent each phase, down to a minimum of one percent per turn in the final phase. This Awakening resistance is a property which no other creature in the Antarctic possesses, which will likely catch new players off guard. The best phase to go for Awakening in is the final gloom phase due to the tyrant having the least resistance in this phase, but it is safer to remain in the fire phase when going for an Awakening completion, because the tyrant's attacks are more dangerous in the final phase.

Character information

“Hello! I'm Fluffy! But, my people call me "Gloomprowler", and I come when they call!”

– Fluffy's first lines of dialogue after being Awakened

Fluffy is quickly shown to act much less frightening than he appears, which makes sense as the Ancient Sirehound of Pikmin 4 is said to be normally quite gentle without Louie's interference. Fluffy immediately becomes friendly after his Awakening, telling the creatures that Awakened him that he thought they were "bad people" before because of their smell, but he now realizes they don't smell like "bad people" anymore. This refers to the nature of Awakening Essence, as Awakened creatures appear dangerous and unnatural to wild creatures. Once Fluffy no longer sees the residents of the Diamond Settlement as enemies, he immediately sees them as "new friends" instead and happily comes back to the Settlement with them.

Fluffy is very loyal to anyone he sees as his "pack", whether that be his old owners or the Diamond Settlement residents after he is Awakened. He does not seem particularly intelligent compared to other Awakened creatures, as he often seems to have the mind and understanding of a child despite his old age. He is easily distracted, often stopping mid-sentence to sniff at a new smell he has just noticed, or chase after something he saw moving in the distance. Fluffy is quite oblivious and often doesn't notice things which are obvious to others around him, often comically missing the point if asked about it. He is also very playful, and will go chasing after any object that is thrown by someone and bringing it back in a game of "fetch" after retrieving it.

After being Awakened, Fluffy often speaks of his "people", his old owners, who left him in the Cavern for a King and instructed him to guard the area from "intruders". Fluffy says that he happily guarded the area for a very long time, every day and night for as long as he could remember, and that he wonders every day when his "people" will return. Fluffy tells the Diamond Settlement residents that he wants to introduce them to his people once they return, because they're very nice and he thinks that his "old people" and "new people" will get along very well. From Fluffy's description of his "people", it seems clear that they were humans. Fluffy seems completely oblivious of the fact that his "people" are long gone, even though they left him to guard centuries ago and have never returned. He says that they must just be busy, and he's sure they will return when they can, and then they will give him a treat and call him a "good boy". Fluffy also seems entirely unaware of the fact that the Ancestral Hunting Ground isn't even the same place as the Cavern for a King, as he says that he is guarding the same place that his people told him to, despite it being a completely different area. When pressed on this directly, Fluffy mentions getting a headache when he tries to think about it, and he then immediately gets distracted talking about something else. This might have something to do with a side effect of the Awakening Essence, as the symptoms of confusion and headache are consistent with some reported by other Awakened residents in some cases. The Cavern for a King and Ancestral Hunting Ground do actually have somewhat similar terrain, with both being littered by various discarded objects. It is possible that this contributes to Fluffy's confusion.

Fluffy seems to be quite old, as he frequently mentions his "people", his old owners, who were humans. As humans have been gone from PNF-404 for a long time, Fluffy must be at least several centuries old, if not older. Schyyy'mer, the Challenge Wraith, mentions having met Fluffy when he was a pup, though Fluffy has no memory of this. Considering Schyyy'mer's age, this makes it possible that Fluffy could be a thousand years old or even older.

Fluffy's name is derived from his thick fluffy fur, as well as from "Fluffy" being a common name for dogs. His nickname which was given to him by his former owners, "Gloomprowler", is a reference to the character "Darkstalker" from the Wings of Fire novel series, with "gloom" being a synonym for "dark" and "prowler" being a synonym for "stalker". This name also connects to the gloom hazard, which Fluffy is notably able to use, and to Fluffy's method of "prowling" around the Ancestral Hunting Ground in search of intruders. His name as a tyrant, "Apex Predator", represents his position as the strongest creature of the Antarctic areas, as an apex predator is a predator at the top of an area's food chain, which has no predators of its own.

Fluffy mentions having a strong dislike of cats, as he says that a group of cats used to mess with him and make fun of him when he was a puppy. Although there are not any cats in the Antarctic, Fluffy says he's sure they're around somewhere, as they're troublesome creatures that always come out to bother him. Some of Pikmin: Antarctic Survival's DLC packs do actually add feline creatures to the game, and Fluffy has amusing interactions with these creatures once they are Awakened and they end up meeting each other.
