The Brumal Arcticlops is a continentia appearing in Pikmin: Wide World as the major boss of Frigid Tundra. It resides in its massive arena, almost completely buried in the snow, appearing as nothing more than a mound of snow with a fruit encased in a large ice crystal resting on top and some gnarled roots around the sides. Initially unresponsive, the Brumal Arcticlops begins reacting to Pikmin and leaders in its domain when they damage its ice crystal enough to free one of its eyes. Doing this prompts the creature to growl fiercely and stand up, the leaders and Pikmin scrambling off and away. After unearthing itself, leaving a massive crater in its place, the Brumal Arcticlops will face them, rear up slightly, and stomp using the 2 of its 3 feet nearest them while roaring, creating a blast of chilling snow in their direction. Afterward, the creature will begin its assault.

Afterward, the creature will begin its assault.

Like other continentiae, the Brumal Arcticlops is best described as a landmass supported by 3 thick legs resembling gnarled roots and ending in fleshy hooves, and topped by a lid-mouth with a fruitlike head sprouting from it. Its gray-brown body is covered in snow. The top side is dotted with smaller ice crystals and dead plants, and roots dangle from the underside. Its legs each end in a large, blueish, fleshy hoof with dark speckles and a smooth underside and are coated in a layer of ice. Its spiny purple fruit-head has 3 long, brown leaves sprouting from the top alongside 3 thin eyestalks of matching color. Its eyestalks each terminate in a leafy structure that holds one of the creature's dull eyes. The eyes themselves have black pupils, dark gray irises, and off-white, somewhat cyan sclerae.

The Brumal Arcticlops has an array of attacks it can use, which only become more dangerous as the battle wears on. Its most basic attack is merely walking, which will crush Pikmin and leaders under its hooves unless the ice has been broken off, which will bury them instead, but still heavily damage leaders. Pikmin and leaders near a hoof as it slams down will be knocked a fair distance away and stunned for a short time, unable to act. Additionally, each step will leave temporary craters in the ground, impeding movement for Pikmin and leaders alike, until they naturally flatten out. Its walking will also jostle snow from its body, posing a chilling hazard.
The Brumal Arcticlops has an array of attacks it can use, which only become more dangerous as the battle wears on. Its most basic attack is merely walking, which will crush Pikmin and leaders under its hooves unless the ice has been broken off or they are Rock Pikmin, which will bury them instead, but still heavily damage leaders. Pikmin and leaders near a hoof as it slams down will be knocked a fair distance away and stunned for a short time, unable to act. Additionally, each step will leave temporary craters in the ground, impeding movement for Pikmin and leaders alike until they naturally flatten out. Perhaps the most prominent threat isn't from the Brumal Arcticlops itself, but the frigid environment it dwells in. The Brumal Arcticlops' territory is exceptionally cold, chilling Pikmin and leaders, and any additional cold, such as the snow the Brumal Arcticlops jostles from its body as it walks around, freezing them solid, making victory virtually impossible without the Pocket Radiator. Additionally, as the battle wears on, the Brumal Arcticlops will begin using its body weight to crush anything underneath. Outside of Story Mode, such as in Bottomless Abyss, frigid environments should be of no concern during the fight, though the Brumal Arcticlops can still chill and freeze Pikmin and leaders.

After the Brumal Arcticlops starts walking around, the only way to force it down again is to target its hooves. However, the ice covering them must be chipped away and destroyed first, and this can be accomplished by throwing Rock Pikmin or rocks, using ultra-hot spray or explosions, or other destructive forces. Purple Pikmin can not pound on the ice in a way effective enough to damage it. After breaking the ice on a hoof, it will be vulnerable to attack by any Pikmin type. Attacking a hoof will cause it to progressively redden until the Brumal Arcticlops jerks it into the air to shake it in pain, forcing attacking Pikmin off, and then slams that hoof and the others into the cool snow below to soothe them. Pikmin under its hooves at that time will merely be knocked away. While it recovers, the Brumal Arcticlops will be nearly flat to the ground, as it was when initially found, allowing Pikmin and leaders to climb on top of it, navigate around the smaller ice crystals or destroy them, and continue damaging the ice around its head. While they remain there, the Brumal Arcticlops will periodically sweep its tongue around its mouth to eat them. Any leader it pulls into its mouth will be chewed up, and spat out alongside a few Pikmin it may have grabbed. When the Brumal Arcticlops stands up again and any leaders or Pikmin remain on it, it will send them to the ground below by either standing on 2 of its feet and tilting its body or blowing cold air out from its mouth to freeze and push them off. When the Brumal Arcticlops pulls its hooves from the ground, they will have developed a new coating of ice.

The behemoth can be damaged by hitting its fruit-like head, which can only be accessed after the ice crystals covering it have been destroyed. Because the Brumal Arcticlops is so large, however, the only way to reach its head is by attacking its hooves, which, when damaged enough to become a bright red color, will force the creature to slam each of its hooves into the ground, rendering its weakpoint accessible. As leaders and Pikmin stand on the top of its body, the Brumal Arcticlops will periodically lash its massive, slimy, dull blue tongue out in an attempt to eat them, sweeping it around itself at various speeds. Any leader it pulls into its mouth will be chewed up, and then spat out alongside a few Pikmin it may have grabbed. When the Brumal Arcticlops stands up after forcing itself into the ground to recover any damage done to its hooves, it will stand on two of its feet to force them off. Alternatively, it may forcibly blow cold air out from its mouth, instantly freezing and blowing away anything on its body, sending them to the ground below. When the Brumal Arcticlops removes its hooves from the ground, they will have developed a new coating of ice that must be broken away.
As the battle progresses, the Brumal Arcticlops will become increasingly more aggressive:
*In this phase, the Brumal Arcticlops will be relatively tame, only moving around its arena without performing any special attacks, gravitating near leaders and Pikmin. While it is down, the Brumal Arcticlops will sweep its tongue across its body once at a slow pace. After it gets up, the Brumal Arcticlops will only get Pikmin and leaders still on its body by tilting.
*Phase 2 begins when the ice covering the Brumal Arcticlops' head is completely destroyed. It will periodically romp across its arena, crushing anything in its path. While down, it will sweep its tongue across its body at its slow speed once, and again at that speed initially but speeding up considerably early on and slowing again just before withdrawing its tongue.
*Phase 3 is the most dangerous and begins once the Brumal Arcticlops reaches half-health. In addition to its previous attacks, the Brumal Arcticlops may utilize two new attacks that can annihilate a full squad in a single execution: it may either quickly bellyflop across its arena or suddenly collapse on top of anything underneath, both instantly killing Pikmin, even Rock Pikmin, and downing leaders caught in the attack. While down in this phase, the Brumal Arcticlops will add a third, very quick sweep with its tongue while licking.

Upon defeat, the Brumal Arcticlops will roar in agony one last time before it leans forward and starts violently gagging, coughing up a valuable fruit and treasure, but also an all-too-familiar Hocotatian, Louie clinging on. Immediately after, it will land so heavily as to bury itself, and when it does, its head will pop off and land upright in front of its body. The head will then give a horrified look to the Pikmin and leaders before its eyestalks shrivel and its eyes close, dead. Though the head can be taken, the rest of the Brumal Arcticlops' body becomes a permanent part of the landscape. The Brumal Arcticlops spitting up Louie upon its death is a direct reference to p3, as the Quaggled Mireclops also spits out Louie when it dies.

The ice covering portions of the Brumal Arcticlops' body can be destroyed with Rock Pikmin, which are usually necessary to battle the creature, but the task can also be accomplished using rocks. Bomb rocks can be used to completely and instantly destroy the ice encasing the Brumal Arcticlops' head and hooves, and they are required to fight the creature in The Brumal Arcticlops Remix as Rock Pikmin nor rocks are available there. Purple Pikmin can not be thrown high enough to pound on the ice crystals to damage them. Sustained contact with the snow and ice present on the Brumal Arcticlops or its arena will chill, and eventually freeze, leaders and their Pikmin unless the Pocket Radiator has been collected and equipped by at least one of the leaders, which provides a leader and their Pikmin with strong cold resistance and protects them from freezing solid. The Pocket Radiator is an essential upgrade not only for the battle against the Brumal Arcticlops but also for Frigid Tundra's cold climate and the area's many causes of becoming chilled or frozen.
In ultra-spicy difficulty, the Brumal Arcticlops will stomp a moderately to severely irritated hoof into the snow to soothe it if it hasn't been attacked for some time, though this will not cause the hoof to regain its icy coating. Regardless of the battle's phase, it will readily drop down on anything under its body. While it is down, rather than licking, it may blow cold air from its mouth, freezing and forcing off in-range Pikmin and leaders, and may follow up by sweeping its tongue around its mouth once.

During phase one of the fight, the Brumal Arcticlops will be relatively tame, only moving around its arena without performing any special attacks, gravitating near leaders and Pikmin. In this phase, while it is down, the Brumal Arcticlops will sweep its tongue across its body once at a slow pace to lick up its attackers before eventually standing up again. Phase two of the battle begins when the ice covering the creature's head is destroyed. In this phase, the Brumal Arcticlops will periodically romp across its arena, crushing anything in its path. While it is down in phase two, it will sweep its tongue across its body twice, both times at the same average speed. Phase three of the battle begins once the Brumal Arcticlops reaches half-health, and lasts until it finally dies. Phase three is the most dangerous, as, in addition to its previous attacks, the creature may utilize two new attacks, both of which can annihilate a full squad in a single execution: it may either bellyflop across its arena at a rapid pace, or it may suddenly collapse on top of anything that may be standing underneath its body. Anything standing in the path of destruction the Frigid Arcticlops carves while it flops across its arena will be utterly destroyed. Any Pikmin or leader underneath of the Brumal Arcticlops when it collapses will be instantly respectively killed or downed, which can result in a swift defeat if not careful. While it is down in this phase, the Brumal Arcticlops will sweep its tongue across its body once at a slow speed, again at a speed that accelerates quickly, and then a third time at a very fast speed. Upon the Brumal Arcticlops's defeat, a cutscene will begin of it roaring in agony, violently gagging, and then coughing up a valuable fruit and treasure, as well as an all-too-familiar Hocotatian, Louie, in the direction of the leaders and their Pikmin. It will then slam its body into the ground, much like it does when one of its hooves is critically damaged. When it does, its head will pop off, landing upright in front of its body, and the creature will give one last horrified stare at the battle's victors before finally shriveling up and dying, marking the end of the cutscene. Its head yields 30 upon death, and although the Brumal Arcticlops's body becomes a permanent part of its arena after its defeat, its head can be taken to either the Dolphin Lander to immediately gain 25 or the Master Onion to receive fifty Pikmin seeds of whichever main Pikmin type it was meant for. Louie may also be carried to the Dolphin Lander, and the night after the ship beams him up, a special scene will begin of Olimar, Shacho, Marie, and Louie conversing, although Louie doesn't talk much during it. The day after this scene, Louie becomes the fourth and final permanent playable leader. As a final note, the Brumal Arcticlops spitting up Louie upon its death is a direct reference to the Quaggled Mireclops, another massive continentia, fought during the events of p3, where it also spits out Louie when it dies.

After unearthing itself, leaving a massive crater in its place, the Brumal Arcticlops will face them, rear up slightly, and stomp using the 2 of its 3 feet nearest them, creating a blast of snow in their direction, while roaring.

Its legs each end in a large, blueish, fleshy hoof with dark speckles and a smooth underside and are covered in ice. Its spiny purple fruit-head has 3 long, brown leaves sprouting from the top alongside 3 thin eyestalks of matching color. Its eyestalks each terminate in a leafy structure that holds one of the creature's dull eyes, which have black pupils, dark gray irises, and off-white, somewhat cyan sclerae. Its mouth contains a massive, slimy, blue-gray tongue.

As the battle progresses, the Brumal Arcticlops will become increasingly more aggressive:

 • In this phase, the Brumal Arcticlops will be relatively tame, only moving around its arena without performing any special attacks, gravitating near leaders and Pikmin. While it is down, the Brumal Arcticlops will sweep its tongue across its body once at a slow pace. After it gets up, the Brumal Arcticlops will only get Pikmin and leaders still on its body by tilting.

While down, it will sweep its tongue across its body at its slow speed once, and again at that speed initially but speeding up considerably early on and slowing again just before withdrawing its tongue.
 • Phase 3 is the most dangerous and begins once the Brumal Arcticlops reaches half-health.

The Brumal Arcticlops spitting up Louie upon its death is a direct reference to Pikmin 3, as the Quaggled Mireclops also spits out Louie when it dies.

Shacho's comments

PWW President icon.png Some days on Hocotate are hotter than the sun! It sure makes me wish I could put this beast's rancid but ice-cold breath in a spray can to cool off on days like those.

Marie's comments

PWW Marie icon.png Among other reasons, this beast's size alone makes it a terrible candidate for a pet. It also much prefers arctic environments over ones that are even remotely warm, meaning Hocotate is no place for it.

Louie's comments

PWW Louie icon.png When blended, this beast's frozen head makes a fine, fruity, refreshing smoothie! No special ingredients are required, just cut into shapes small enough to fit into a blender.

Dolphin Lander's comments

PWW Dolphin Lander icon.png Judging from Captain Olimar's notes, this creature was starving to death when we found it... and we put it out of its misery. Life can be cold and unforgiving, much like the frozen wasteland we encountered the brumal arcticlops in.
