A dumple that dwells in these corrosive pools? Be careful! – The ship, upon discovering the Acid Dumple

The Acid Dumple is a new species of grub-dog that appears in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. Being a member of the dumple subspecies, they have a physical composition similar to that of a Water Dumple. The Acid Dumple has a green body with dark green patches on it. At the end of its slug-like body lies multiple light yellow appendages, used for slurking around. The dumple has light yellow, chapped lips, and neon green whiskers on the front of its face. It has two barely noticeable eyes with dark yellow sclerae on the side of its face, one eye on each end of its mouth. The entire body of the creature is coated in a layer of translucent, green acid.

The Acid Dumple will remain idle in its territory, occasionally slowly moving to another spot. When it spots Pikmin, or hears them from a different direction, it will begin to move towards them. The Acid Dumple moves quite slowly on land, but inside pools of acid, it moves at double the speed. The creature will eat up to three Pikmin by lunging its mouth forward to grab and consume them. If harmed, then the Acid Dumple will jump into the air to shake off Pikmin, which causes drops of acid to rain upon the group as a result. Along with this, the dumple has a layer of acid over it when outside of acid pools, meaning any Pikmin not immune to the substance cannot harm it. When Pikmin have left its territory, it will slowly return to its origin point and remain idle.

The Acid Dumple can only be defeated by attacking it with Green Pikmin, which are immune to acid. Any Pikmin that are caught and hurt by the acid droplets can also be saved by the Green Pikmin, as they can whack the hazard off of the victim’s stem. Throwing Pikmin on the Acid Dumple is less effective than swarming it, as the Pikmin won’t be able to take it out as quickly. Throwing Pikmin on the dumple can also be very difficult, considering they move much faster in acid pools.

In Overlord mode, the Acid Dumple has increased health and speed in acid and on land. Along with this, the dumple may bite three times consecutively to eat more Pikmin at once.

Notes

  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #1: Acid Dumples can be dangerous if not engaged with Green Pikmin!

Olimar's notes

The Acid Dumple has skin that can absorb and host acid inside of it. It serves as a powerful set of natural armor for this creature, as it’s dangerous for predators to eat it, and it can dwell in pools of acid. These species of dumples are more aggressive than usual, considering their territory is limited. They can only really lay their eggs and nurse them within these pools of acidic fluid. Anywhere else would guarantee them being eaten without constant protection.

Louie's notes

The acid of this dumple is very corrosive and tastes bad too. So, make sure to drain it of all its acidic fluids. Next, fry it in the pan, like most cuts of meat. It serves as a simple cut of meat, although with a bit of natural, acidic zing. Best served with extra lemon flavoring.

President’s notes

I can no longer be kidnapped by debt collectors! All I have to do is cover myself in acid... and... wait... WHAT AM I DOING!?

Overlord’s thoughts

This species of grub-dog is super hostile. Why? Not sure. I guess if I had to live in acid all day, I might be a bit cheesed off too. But hey, that’s not my problem.

Acidic Dumples also appear in Pikmin: Return to the Distant Planet, and they mostly appear in or around acid pools or acid gas, making them dangerous. Acidic Dumples secrete acid, evaporating all but Green Pikmin that come in contact with it. If attacked by Green Pikmin, the dumple will shake them off, and then attempt to swarm and eat them. A simple strategy is to quickly throw Green Pikmin onto the dumple until it retreats, as it will attempt to call nearby Acidic Dumples to its attackers. Once defeated, they no longer secrete acid and are safe to carry by other Pikmin.

Attacks Eats Pikmin

The Acid Dumple appears in Pikmin: Wide World as a semiaquatic grub-dog that is closely related to the Water Dumple and thrives in acid. The Monster Dumple is a wildly mutated mature Acid Dumple. Acid Dumples sit idly, most commonly in acid but sometimes on dry land, alone or in groups of up to three. While idle, they periodically move around to reposition themselves, and in acid or water, continually open and close their mouths to filter-feed. An Acid Dumple will chase after Pikmin and leaders that approach it, moving in two quick bursts at a time as compared to the Water Dumple's one, and will return to a point near its original resting position once they flee its territory. It will try to eat any Pikmin and bite any leaders it gets close enough to. Acid Dumples move much more quickly in liquids, water included, than on dry land.

Acid Dumples strongly resemble Water Dumples in size and shape, but not so much in appearance. They have a round, oblong body with green, warty, leathery skin, and their lips and rear appendages are predominately of a dull lavender color but with a hint of red. Visible on their underside are several sets of gills that span the entire body's length.

As they are so similar to Water Dumples, the strategies against them may also be used against Acid Dumples. Green Pikmin are often necessary to battle them with considering they are almost always found submerged in acid, although those found on land may be fought using any Pikmin type. Charging Pikmin at an Acid Dumple as a first attack is never recommended as they can muster enough strength to overwhelm and shake off any Pikmin attacking it by jumping, no matter how many are piled on, always following up with a quick pivot and a few bites. Throwing several Pikmin onto an Acid Dumple before charging others at it is much more effective as the creature will be too preoccupied by the few Pikmin already on it to immediately defend itself against the swarm about to ravage it. Although an Acid Dumple can not be killed instantly by throwing a Pikmin directly on top of it, a Purple Pikmin pound is quite effective against one it directly strikes. Upon death, an Acid Dumple will roll over onto its back and go limp.

In ultra-spicy difficulty, Acid Dumples will bite twice in succession if there are more Pikmin or leaders in front of it after it bites the first time. Additionally, on land, it will splatter acid around itself after it lands from shaking Pikmin off, endangering surrounding Pikmin.

Notes

  • PWW Data file icon.png Data file #1 (all difficulties): Acid Dumples are usually more trouble than they're worth, especially while in acid.
  • PWW Data file icon.png Data file #2 (ultra-spicy difficulty only): The Acid Dumple is an opportune predator and will try to get in multiple bites.
  • PWW Data file icon.png Data file #3 (ultra-spicy difficulty only): Beware the acid that splatters all around the Acid Dumple when it lands from a jump.

Olimar's comments

PWW Captain Olimar icon.png Acid dumples are able to withstand the corrosive properties of acid due to more resilient skin and a special chemical compound that nullifies its effects. Few other creatures possess the resistances it has, so it often must leave the safety of the acid pools it calls home in search of prey. Because of the strong similarities they share, and I suspect it evolved from the water dumple for much the same reason as green pikmin evolved from blue pikmin.

Shacho's comments

PWW President icon.png Maybe a moat of acid around Hocotate Freight may not be such a bad idea, seeing as these creatures call it home and are relatively safe in it. But... I would need a drawbridge... And what would I want to defend myself from, other than Dorris when she's angry?

Marie's comments

PWW Marie icon.png This creature will never be satisfied unless it can immerse itself in an effervescent fluid. Kept outside of it for long periods of time, it becomes irritable and prone to biting.

Louie's comments

PWW Louie icon.png Its flesh is extremely acidic, almost to the point of being inedible, but may be enjoyed sliced extremely thinly. Be sure to have antacids handy!

Dolphin Lander's comments

PWW Dolphin Lander icon.png What I have concluded from my observations of this creature is it seems happiest settled in a pool of corrosive acid. Why this is the case, I am unsure, but Olimar did compare its relationship with the water dumple to that shared between blue pikmin and green pikmin. The mechanics of nature are so compelling!

The Acid Dumple is a grub-dog appearing in the fourth and final area of Pikoblitz, Challenger's Canyon. It behaves and looks similar to the Toxic Dumple, but trails acid instead of poison and has green lips instead of pink lips. Battle it as if it were a Water Dumple, but beware of the trail of acid it leaves in its wake.

Notes

Olimar's notes

This creature has such a strange effect on people. It appears that those who wish to buy or sell it are collectors who think it's worthless or are war veterans. Most likely it can be a weapon or a rare bundle of life when you think deeper about it.

Louie's notes

First, in order to serve, the acid of this creature must be scooped or poured out. Then, cook for a little while, cover with a nice garlic and butter sauce, and you certainly have a must-taste masterpiece!
