The Chocolate Breadbug is a returning species of breadbug in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. The creature, like most breadbugs, has a large, bumpy backside with a black coloration, and a beige snout with nostrils. The breadbug waddles around on two beige legs. The creature’s most notable feature is its two glowing, green eyes.

The Chocolate Breadbug will emerge from their dark green den of leaves when the sublevel or day starts. They will begin to waddle around the map in a free roam, searching for treasures and corpses. If the Chocolate Breadbug finds either of these objects, they will grab them and drag them back to their den. If Pikmin are holding onto the treasure, and there aren’t enough of them to carry the treasure, they will be dragged into the den with the breadbug and perish. If the number of Pikmin are superior, however, they will win the tug of war and drag the item to their Onion or research pod with the Breadbug. The Breadbug will take heavy damage as they’ll hit the ceiling of the vessel when it sucks up the object. If a Chocolate Breadbug carries a corpse into their den, they will pop out of the den after a few seconds and return to their hunt. A few seconds after that, any enemy who was dragged into the den will suddenly be revived and thrown around the den. This can range from normal enemies to bosses.

The Chocolate Breadbug, although not harmful at first glance, is one of the most dangerous enemies in the game. If the creature gets their hands on a boss corpse without knowing, then they’ll have a rejuvenated boss guarding their den, which could have treasures. This will lead to very unfortunate situations, where numerous bosses and enemies are all grouped together in a single area. Taking out a Chocolate Breadbug before they can drag a corpse away is key. Beating them in the tug of war is a suitable method, but the player can also throw Pikmin on the back of the breadbug to do decent damage as well. Weighted Pikmin, Purple Pikmin, and Dart Pikmin can easily break through the hide of the breadbug and do massive damage. Purple Pikmin and Weighted Pikmin in particular have carrying superiority, so they are also recommended.

In Overlord mode, the Chocolate Breadbug moves at a faster speed when carrying an object, like with all breadbugs.

Notes

  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #1: The Chocolate Breadbug can be very dangerous if they get their hands on a strong enemy!

Olimar's notes

Would you look at that, another unexplainable enemy. I don’t know how these Breadbugs are able to rejuvenate the life out of deceased enemies! My guess is that this species of Breadbug might have some form of parasite, wether it’s naturally in their system, or they hoard it in their den. Perhaps this parasite rejuvenates the creatures, or uses them as a lifeless host for their own doing. I guess like an undead, or zombie. I’m not sure at this point…

Louie's notes

Unlike most bland Breadbug meat, this creature has a more cocoa, or chocolate taste. Best used as a filler for chocolate pudding and candies.

President’s notes

I bet this Breadbug must have the secret to immortality! Tell me Breadbug! TELL ME!! Oh wait, it can’t speak Hocotation–

Overlord’s thoughts

What? How? My ecosystem confuses me sometimes. Whatever these breadbugs do, however, I’m impressed.

Attacks Takes objects, revives enemies

In Pikspore, the Chocolate Breadbug, like most other breadbugs, wanders around the area it is in until it comes across a certain kind of object. When this breadbug comes across an enemy corpse, it will drag it back to its burrow. After the corpse of a creature has been dragged in, the creature will emerge alive and with full health. To avoid having to battle enemies repeatedly, defeat the Chocolate Breadbug before it can revive them. It looks like a normal Breadbug, only with black blubber and green eyes. To defeat the Chocolate Breadbug, simply throw Pikmin on top of it or have several Pikmin deliver an object one is dragging to an Onion or ship pod, so as to cause its head to bang against it underside, severely injuring it.
