Temperature
Gameplay aspect

Temperature is a gameplay mechanic in several fan-made Pikmin games, usually appearing as a special type of hazard, such as an environmental hazard, that may be detrimental or beneficial to Pikmin, leaders, and enemies. Hotter or colder temperatures can affect those exposed to it in a variety of ways, such as being slowed, suffering additional damage, or outright dying if exposed for too long. Temperatures can also vary from day to day, and a location's temperature can depend on the current weather. Temperature is not to be confused with weather.

In fanon games

Below this point is where users place their version of temperature.

Temperature appears in Pikmin: Before the Impact as an environmental hazard known as below-zero temperatures. Only Cerulean Pikmin are unaffected by below-zero temperatures, which are only ever encountered underground, in caves. Other Pikmin that are exposed to below-zero temperatures freeze to death within fifteen seconds if they are not taken out of the area. However, below-zero temperatures can be returned to normal by locating and destroying a sublevel's refrigerant generator. The Below-zero Protection will protect leaders from below-zero temperatures.

Temperature returns in Pikmin: Dimensional Breach, serving as the primary hazard of the Tundra of Repose. Enemies, and Pikmin that are not Cyan Pikmin or Hairy Bulbmin, will move slower and trip more often when wandering the tundra above ground, but the captains are unaffected thanks to their life-support systems providing some warmth.

However, some enemies and hazards, including arctic voids, spit out cold air, appearing as white and cyan puffs of gas or mist. Cyan Pikmin and Hairy Bulbmin are still unaffected by the cold air, but it will knock captains over and cluster around other types of Pikmin. Pikmin being afflicted by cold air will stop in place and shiver; if they are not whistled back, they will freeze to death.

Temperature appears in Pikmin: Spider Attack and can be monitored by collecting a ship part called the Temperature Mechanism. Winter Snowflake's temperatures can kill Pikmin, Birch Forest's fair temperatures do not harm Pikmin, and Volcano Base's temperatures can set Pikmin ablaze and melt Ice Pikmin.

Temperature is a gameplay mechanic that affects areas and the dens and caves they contain. Each location has its own innate temperature, which can vary depending on weather. Leaders, Pikmin, and enemies can be affected by different temperatures, especially extreme temperatures, though some may be entirely unaffected. Balmy Highlands and Ancient Metalworks both have mild temperatures, Arid Oasis is hot, Frigid Tundra is cold, Mycelial Sepulcher is cool, and Endless Sea is warm. Heat and cold are detrimental to leaders, slowing them down considerably, but can be respectively counteracted by obtaining the Pocket Conditioner or the Pocket Radiator. Additionally, extreme heat or cold will harm leaders, and extreme cold can freeze them as well as their Pikmin. Heat affects only leaders, while cold also affects Pikmin. Both heat and cold can affect some enemies as well. As stated previously, weather can impact an area's temperature. Rainfall and snowfall will decrease an area's temperature, but it being a sunny day will increase it. Dens and caves are both not only affected by the temperature of the areas in which they are found but also become more temperate with each successive sublevel. Fire and ice can also be beneficial or detrimental depending on where those hazards are encountered because they respectively increase or decrease the temperature of those exposed.
