The Joustmite is a burrow-nit that hides partially buried in the ground, waiting for unsuspecting prey such as Pikmin. Once they enter its attack range, a Joustmite will pop out from the ground and proceed to attack them by attempting to thrusting its long, needle-like proboscis to spear and eat up to three of them at a time. Its front side is protected by its shell, but its fleshy backside is vulnerable to attack at all times.

The Joustmite appears in Pikmin V alongside its relative, the Cloaking Burrow-nit. The two are often found together, tricking leaders as to which direction they should be approached.

- “Originally thought to have a reversed shell, it has recently been found that larval Joustmites initially grow their shell on their back before molting it and wearing it as a helmet. The evolutionary benefit of this is unclear, though it did allow for the regrowth of its vestigial wings to form the Flighty Joustmite subspecies. Grounded Joustmites have since begun grouping with Cloaking Burrow-nits to avoid being outcompeted.”

- “Though it behaves very similarly to the Cloaking Burrow-nit, it is fought quite differently. It has learned to face you as it is emerging, so you can't ambush it. Instead, you need to get Pikmin on the other side through methods like throwing them over it or using Planning.”
