Family | Amphituber (assumed) |
The Crystal Wollywog is an unused amphituber found in the files of Pikmin 3. It strongly resembles the Wollywog, although green-brown in color with a green back and a reddish-purple underbelly, orange feet with pink stripes on its toes, and yellow eyes with black, slitted pupils, the eyes of which having a white ring around them. On the underside of its body appears to be a crystal object, although where it would have been attached to the Crystal Wollywog's body is uncertain. It apparently would have behaved like the Yellow Wollywog, jumping into the air to crush Pikmin and leaders underneath it, complete with the creature inflating its throat to momentarily float in the air before landing. The crystal attached to its body would have either made Rock Pikmin necessary to defeat it or made it easier to defeat using Rock Pikmin.

The Crystal Wollywog is a new enemy appearing in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. The resembles a Wollywog physically, but there are many differences to the creature. It has a brown rigid crystalline body, along with whitish-yellow eyes and purple spots all over. Its feet are of a yellow color, and attached to the bottom of the Wollywog is a large, round crystal ball.
The Crystal Wollyhop typically sits idly, occasionally croaking or scratching its face. If it sees Pikmin, it will slowly turn to face them. If they get too close, however, the Crystal Wollywog will strike. They will leap into the air, floating into the air for a few seconds, and then crash down, crushing non-Rock Pikmin or -Weighted Pikmin caught in the attack. If the leaders or Pikmin attempt to evade the attack, the Crystal Wollywog will kick its crystal ball onto them, crushing up to five Pikmin. It will then hop over to the ball and put it back under its stomach. Rock Pikmin can be used to destroy the crystal ball. The only way to kill the Crystal Wollywog is by throwing Rock Pikmin or Dart Pikmin at the enemy. Despite having a health wheel, it always takes exactly twenty hits to kill. The more it is hit, the more its armor cracks, before it eventually shatters completely. Sometimes, pellets or other items can be within suspended within them.

The Crystal Wollywog is an amphituber that appears in Pikmin Eco as a replacement for the Wollywog. Unlike its unused incarnation from Pikmin 3, the Crystal Wollywog in Pikmin Eco has a stomach protected by a layer of crystal instead of a rocky mass. They behave similarly to any other wollywog; they remain stationary until leaders or Pikmin venture within range. Once they do, the creature will leap up into the air and slam down on top of either a leader or their Pikmin, crushing any underneath. Compared to the Yellow Wollywog, the Crystal Wollywog has a longer range, and it can cause more damage due to its crystal-coated stomach.
Notes
In-game entry
- “Once thought to be an extinct species, later discoveries of this crystalline wollywog had disproved that earlier statement. These are highly evolved for a subterranean lifestyle, and their soft skin can store water thanks to their crystalline overcoat. This same crystalline coating however makes this species much slower than other wollywogs, making their habitats limited. Some scientists believe this species evolved from wollywogs that are unable to return back to the surface, but this is still under debate.”

Attacks | Crushes Pikmin, produces crystal spikes |
The Crystalbelly Wollywog is a type of wollywog that has a more purplish-brown color scheme and a crystal that extends out of its belly when it jumps. When it lands, it makes a shockwave of crystals that can trap Pikmin between them. If no Pikmin are affected, the crystal will protrude from its back. Breaking the crystal at such a time prevents the creature from using its crystal attack and makes it vulnerable to attack.
Notes
Olimar's notes
- “This amphituber can amplify the force of its jumping attacks by driving a crystalline spike normally stored within in the body into the ground. This spike is generated through the amphituber's passive absorption of minerals from water it sits in. An adult specimen’s crystal can range from one-third of my height, to around the size of the specimen. How it manages to store it and continue to function normally is beyond me, but I assume it has something to do with its squishy body.”
Louie's notes
- “Set aside the slimy meat and extract the crystal from inside. Polish carefully to remove any traces of internal juices. Grind into a powder and add to a basic deep-frying batter. Remove the throat sac and deep fry for an amazingly luxurious, yet humble and down-to-earth snack sure to impress any discerning dinner guest, from your CEO to your in-laws.”
Shacho's notes
- “Although you may be thinking that a creature that can produce crystals would be a great boon to the jewelry industry, that is not the case. It would ruin the scarcity of other gemstones. Do NOT let word of this creature reach Hocotate at all costs. (Or at least not until I pull my stocks out of Crystals and Curios Inc.)”

The Gemniwog is an amphituber in Pikmin: The Return of the Puffmin that has a stomach protected by a spiky crystal shell. It behaves like most other amphitubers, sitting still when idle and crushing leaders and Pikmin that get too close. When the Gemniwog lands, however, the crystals on its stomach may fragment, killing Pikmin that are hit by the shrapnel. As the rest of its body is not protected, any type of Pikmin can be used to attack it.
Notes
Olimar's notes
- “This doesn't seem too different from a normal wollywog... besides the spikes on the bottom of its body.”
