The Crested Mockiwi appears exclusively in the computer release of Pikmin Z. Much like other mockiwis, the Crested Mockiwi is a species that once evolved for flight but had lost its wings and evolved to occupy the niche of the grub-dog family. The Crested Mockiwi's behavior mirrors a typical Hairy Bulborb; Pikmin thrown onto its backside harmlessly bounce off. To hurt it, Pikmin must be thrown at its crest. Rock Pikmin are especially effective against it because they can hurt it from any point on its body. Its diet consists of small- to medium-sized animals, and it is preyed upon by the Spiked Mockiwi.

The Crested Mockiwi returns in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. They look the same as their original counterpart in Hey! Pikmin. The Mockiwi will patrol a set path, searching for any Pikmin there. If it spots Pikmin, it will emit a roar and charge at the group, scooping up Pikmin and eating them. There are many ways to foil the creature. Mainly, if a Pikmin is thrown on its signature pink crest, it will begin to try and shake the Pikmin off, allowing for the captains to attack it from behind. This means throwing a Dart Pikmin or Fur Pikmin at the crest is most effective. If led into a wall, the Mockiwi will smash its head into a wall and be stunned, allowing for a chance to attack. If the captain can't attack the creature, they can walk behind the Mockiwi, as the creature can not see from behind unless it turns around.
