Scientific name Granitus chukkulinae
Family Lithopod

Armored Cannon Beetle Larvae are lithopods that resemble large larvae with an Armored Cannon Beetle's eyes and mouth. They act the same as the Armored Cannon Beetle but spit boulders turn and at a faster rate, have much less health, and are always vulnerable to attack. Like the adult cannon beetles, they have a blowhole on the top of their head, but it is either nonfunctional or not as powerful, so Pikmin can not become stuck in it like with the fully grown beetles. Some walk around while others burrow out of the ground; those buried will never unearth more than half of their body or move from their spot.

Notes

Olimar's observations

Once again, I come to this planet only to see the larval form of this creature. What happened to the fully grown kind? Maybe other creatures have led to this one becoming an endangered species. I hope not. Sometimes, I feel bad when I think about how fighting these creatures to the death is upsetting the balance of this ecosystem. But I don't have a choice. If I'm going to save our company once again, some sacrifices will have to be made.

Cookin' with Louie

Removing all the rocks from this beast's meat is a real pain, but more than worth the effort! Or you can just leave the rocks in if you want those extra minerals in your diet.

The Armored Cannon Beetle Larva is a lithopod appearing in Pikmin Eco, although with no signs of any adult version. It isn't found outside of caves, making it strictly a subterranean species. It behaves as it does in Pikmin 2 and Pikmin 3 and can be defeated, and in some cases manipulated, in the same ways.

In Pikmin V, the Armored Cannon Larva appears alongside its mature form as well as yet another new larval relative, the Arenose Cannon Larva. It can be found both entrenched and free-roaming; both versions are equally susceptible to the Purple Pikmin's stun.

Notes

Brittany's notes

Though it is classified as a larva, it is perfectly capable of surviving and reproducing on its own. Very few of them demonstrate the need to metamorphose, and no known pupae have even been found, perhaps due to the rocklike material of its signature weapon camouflaging it very well. This is true of most Cannon Beetles, though there has been a rise in specifically Armored Cannon Beetle maturation due to an invasive species, the Horned Cannon Beetle, that is threatening its territory.

Olimar's notes

It is best fought with Rock Pikmin, whom it poses no threat to as opposed to the instant and often numerous deaths other Pikmin types face. Rock Pikmin also don't care about its ability to buck Pikmin off of it. Do be wary that those hit will still be incapacitated for some time as they pull themselves out of the ground, reducing the size of your attacking force.

Louie's notes

Carefully sift the meat before grinding to remove any excess particulate matter. Since it has to keep a specific internal biome for the bacteria in its guts, it is actually safe to eat raw.
