The Nectarous Dandelfly drifts carelessly around, blissfully unaware of anything around it. If a Pikmin touches on one of its hind segments, that segment will disconnect from the body, along with all tail segments connected to it. They will all fall onto the ground and collapse into puddles of nectar. Because there are five segments, the number of Pikmin that can be flowered depends on the location the enemy is hit. Throwing a Pikmin onto the creature's head will also result in all five segments falling down. After being hit once, it will swiftly fly away.

The Nectarous Dandelfly appears in Pikmin Eco, where it is not much different from its Pikmin 3 incarnation, and also replaces the role of the Honeywisp. They appear alongside their larvae.

In Pikmin V, the Nectarous Dandelfly returns with a slightly different flight pattern: while the main body still oscillates up and down, its line of nectar sacs now dangles behind it, making it easier to hit those instead. It is a rare enemy, but the improvements to nectar mean a hit to the head drops enough to flower an entire squad of 100 Pikmin.

“Debate is hot over whether this creature is a divergent evolution from the Flutterbie family. Much of its biology is internally and externally similar to the smaller creatures, as is its penchance for nectar. However, mimicry and homoplasy are both valid alternate explanations for the resemblance, and research is ongoing.”

“Striking its main torso will cause it to panic and empty its nectar sacs. If that is proving too much of a challenge, hitting an individual sac will empty it and all connected ones leading to the tail to drop.”

The Nectarous Dandelfly returns in Pikmin: Shipwrecked Stargazers. As in Pikmin 3, it flies in set patterns in the sky, and depending on where it's hit, it can drop up to five droplets of nectar before flying away in fear.

“Nectarous dandelflies begin life as aquatic nymphs that feed on smaller creatures like wogpoles and young puckering blinnows. Upon metamorphosis into a flying insect, they become nectarivores that drink the sugary substance straight from the flower with their proboscis. As it drinks nectar, it is stored in these bead-like segments that form in a chain trailing behind it. Only when it reaches five of these segments is it considered fit to bear young. After mating, the adult specimens have little life left in them, so they lay their eggs near a water source to bring forth a new generation of nectarous dandelflies. The curled proboscis of a mature specimen is meant to prevent reflux from the amount of nectar it has consumed.”

“The meat of it is really bitter, moreso than most bitter foodstuffs. Use the nectar that it comes with to flavor the meat as it cooks. It's really the only way to enjoy something that tastes like it would poison you instantly.”
