Scientific name Opisteuthidae iaciobulla
Family Flobbler

The Waddlepus is a generally passive flobbler. They are always found sleeping on land or in water, and wake up only when Pikmin or leaders are nearby. Once disturbed, the Waddlepus will inflate itself and slowly waddle towards them. If Pikmin are latched onto the Waddlepus when it inflates, they will be thrown off. Once inflated, the Waddlepus will then shoot out a stream of bubbles from either its mouth or from the pores on its back, deflating in the process.

The Waddlepus appears in Pikmin: Attack of the Breadbugs, encountered in the Marsh Territory. It can blow bubbles to trap Pikmin and Captain Olimar in. Along with that ability, it has a new one: squirting ink to distract attackers. When sprayed with ink, Pikmin will simply stand in place as they would if they did not have a task. While the Pikmin are distracted, the Waddlepus will retreat. Waddlepi are always found in water, and thus can only be attacked by Blue Pikmin. Waddlepi will rarely be willing to leave any body of water.

This lazy beast can blow bubbles? Be on guard! – The ship, upon discovering the Waddlepus

The Waddlepus is a returning enemy that appears in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. The creature is mainly found around tropical areas, primarily being found in the Enchanted Shore and its respective caves. The Waddlepus is a very unique enemy; having no variations to it. The Waddlepus, despite its naming, resembles a large, purple, abnormal starfish covered in scales. Along the edges of the body, including eyes and mouth, a lighter pink lining of soft skin outlines the creature; with the underbelly of the Waddlepus being completely pink. Numerous yellow orifices can be found on top of the Waddlepus; with the same yellow color being found in its mouth. The creature also has two large, bulbous eyes with green sclarea and sharp, black pupils. The head of the Waddlepus can be expanded to an extreme size; causing the Waddlepus to double in height and appear much more menacing than it actually is.

Waddlepi can be found sleeping near bodies of water. Attacking, touching, or damaging it can cause it to wake up. Simply walking too close to the creature can also cause it to awaken from its sleep. Once awoken, the Waddlepus will begin to waddle around. If it feels threatened, or if it is attacked by a Pikmin or captain, it will expand its head to an extreme size. The Waddlepus will then rush towards the nearest group of Pikmin; proceeding to blow out dozens of bubbles at its attackers. It will emit a large cluster of bubbles from its mouth and numerous bubbles from the orifices located on the top of its heads. These bubbles will trap any Pikmin attacking the enemy. As it releases these bubbles, it will slowly begin to deflate its head. Once finished, the Waddlepus will take a few seconds to rest; allowing for an opening to attack. If Pikmin are gone after its finished resting, it will return to its arena and go back to its slumber. If not, then it will re-expand its head and continue its attacks. If too many Pikmin are swarming the creature from different directions, the Waddlepus will begin to shake; suddenly spraying out ink from the top of its head. The ink will rain all over Pikmin; acting like a hazard which chokes them unless whistled.

Defeating a Waddlepus is quite easy, as it is not threatening on its own. However, if paired with nearby hazards, other enemies, or even bottomless pits, it can scatter your squad all over the place and put stray Pikmin in danger. Any Pikmin type can take out the Waddlepus, although some types have more of an advantage. Mainly, Weighted Pikmin cannot be taken by bubbles due to their weight. Along with this, Dart Pikmin and Cactus Pikmin will pop any bubbles they get trapped in due to their sharp nature. Winged Pikmin can also be sent to deal with these bubbles. Once defeated, the creature will expel dozens of bubbles before shriveling up and flipping over.

In Overlord mode, the Waddlepus is much stronger, and releases double the amount of bubbles and ink. The creature also has a shorter cooldown time.

Notes

  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #1: Although unassuming, the Waddlepus can easily choke your Pikmin with its deadly ink!

Olimar's notes

Using the numerous orifices located in its head, the Waddlepus can drive out its attackers by spraying them with bubbles. Under extreme stress, it will spray out ink by mistake; most likely the inner tubing of the creature releasing fluid from a wrong gland. Waddlepi, despite being nocturnal, are always constantly on edge. This is due to them constantly protecting their eggs; which they lay around three of during their mating season.

Louie's notes

This rubbery creature is best eaten raw after it's marinated in its own ink. Just be careful that you don't choke on the tentacle's suction cups!

President’s notes

The bubbles of this giant sea monster seemed fun to go in, so I tried to get into one of the bubbles.. but as soon as I did.. I began to float away! Olimar tried to free me; but I almost floated right into the jaws of a Bulborb! This planet is brutal sometimes..

Overlord’s thoughts

Everytime I accidentally bump into one of these guys, they end up spraying me with ink. Starting to get very annoyed by this.. maybe I'll relocate them somewhere else. I'm kind of tired of taking showers three times a day.
