The Slithering Shallock is a shelled mollusking appearing in Pikmin: Wide World. A Slithering Shallock can be found slowly creeping around its territory when idle, on land or in shallow water, alone or with another Slithering Shallock. If on land, it leaves a short-lasting slime trail in its wake. It specifically targets Pikmin and Captmin, but not leaders, that come near, and will turn its attention towards nearby Pikmin and attempt to close the distance, where it will bow its head and attempt to eat them should it get close enough. It can eat many Pikmin at a time, but chews and swallows slowly, allowing for ample time to save them from death. Any leaders a Slithering Shallock accidentally bites down on will be chewed up and then spat out, alongside any Pikmin in its mouth at the time.

The Slithering Shallock is the most spindly and elongated member of the mollusking family. It has a slimy, sluglike body, and it has a neck that supports a round but somewhat curved head. Its body tapers to an edge at its flattest points. Its body is beige in color but has cream-colored highlights. Its underbelly and jaws are also cream-colored. Two curved eyestalks support one eye each and have a green rim, and each eye is black in color. On the creature's back is its massive, spiraling shell, which features off-white, red, and black stripes. The Slithering Shallock does not possess a tongue, and its brown-colored mouth is filled with countless tiny, razor-sharp teeth.

Although much of a Slithering Shallock's body is exposed to attack, it is resistant to damage. Attacking the shell will deal no damage to the creature, but it can be destroyed by throwing Rock Pikmin or rocks at it enough times, having Purple Pikmin pound on top of it enough times, it being within the explosion radius of a normal bomb rock, struck by a boulder, crushed by another enemy, or several other circumstances. The shell of a Slithering Shallock can be destroyed even while the creature is still alive, which will grant it higher mobility. If a Slithering Shallock's shell is destroyed while the creature is withdrawn inside it, it will be both stunned for some time and extremely vulnerable to attack. Upon death, a Slithering Shallock will partially withdraw into its shell, adopting a dried, shriveled, and slightly shrunken appearance, and tip over onto its right side. Although much of a Slithering Shallock's body is exposed to attack, it is surprisingly resilient. When a Slithering Shallock's health falls low enough, it may withdraw into its shell, where it will become temporarily invulnerable and regenerate some of its health. When it finishes, it reemerges and continues fighting until it withdraws again, if and when it does. Attacking the shell directly will bring no harm to the creature, but it can be cracked and destroyed after many Rock Pikmin or some rock throws, having Purple Pikmin pound on top of it enough times, it being within the radius of an explosion, struck by a boulder, or exposed to other sufficiently destructive forms of blunt force. The only drawback is that the creature will have higher mobility as it won't have to carry around such a heavy shell. If a Slithering Shallock's shell is destroyed while the creature is withdrawn, it will be stunned for some time. Upon death, a Slithering Shallock will silently shrivel up, drying out, and go limp. If it still has its shell, it will also partially withdraw into it and tip over onto its right side.

In ultra-spicy difficulty, Slithering Shallock shells can not be destroyed with Rock Pikmin throws or Purple Pikmin pounds.

The Slithering Shallock appears in Pikmin: Dual Worlds as a rather rare enemy located in or around water, particularly, but not necessarily, in sandy areas. It attacks by eating up to five Pikmin at a time, and the spiky top side of its shell can impale Pikmin if they're thrown above it carelessly. It can also hide within its shell to better protect itself, though this will make it incapable of attacking and simply limit the number of Pikmin that can be on it to ten, knocking any extra off.

Notes

Olimar's notes

This species of mollusking can survive in both salt and fresh water. It's a favorite home for certain species of moss. As it has the ability to drag itself across the ground rather quickly despite its shell, it's good at spreading the moss on it as well. The spikes on its back are an unusual attribute, as its shell is already impenetrable by most organic forces. It's possible that they're supposed to deter larger beings from swallowing it whole or stepping on it, as those are one of the few plausible threats to it.

Louie's notes

Cram some spices and butter into it and cook it in its shell to retain moisture better. Remove the shell afterward with a pair of industrial pliers or suck out the meat to get a chewy but delectable meal! Afterward, you can even have some of the moss on its shell as desert!

Alph's notes

Structural flaw: shell doesn't cover whole body / Weight: 10 / This unusual mollusking has a shell, unlike most. The idea of a shell with spikes on it is interesting. Not only does it protect you, but it harms anybody who tries. It's certainly an effective deterrent.

Brittany's notes

The combination of green and dark brown makes the shell somewhat unsightly, but the vibrant orange body is quite striking! The moss on its back is quite interesting as well. Unlike most species of moss, these have become capable of surviving in water for extended periods. Of course, the specimens that live in deeper water will likely have algae instead.

Charlie's notes

This dastardly being has somehow found a way to outright limit the amount of Pikmin that can be on it at any given time. It's better to just bait it into leaving its shell than to continue attacking it.

The Spiraled Bloysnail appears in Pikmin: Dual Worlds around but not in water, usually in shaded areas, like a forest. It attacks by eating Pikmin, up to three at a time, and has a tough shell that it can hide in to avoid damage and regenerate health. When defeated, it will slowly begin to regain health as it hides in its shell. It can be carried back to the Onion to avoid having to deal with it again, but if it gets back to full health before that it will wriggle out of the Pikmin's grasp and begin to fight them again. It can slither around rather quickly considering it has such a heavy shell, and can easily slither up walls as well.

Notes

Olimar's notes

Despite there being a small population of them on an island, strangely enough, they're not fond of salt water and can not breathe in water of any type, the latter of which is especially strange for species in the mollusking family. It's thought that the ancestors of the island inhabitants managed to float across on debris somehow, though what exactly would be able to transport that many is unknown. This species is entirely strange.

Louie's notes

Boil this beast in wine and put it back in the shell for an especially stylish dish! It goes well with a sauce made from butter and wine.

Alph's notes

Structural flaw: rather weak / Weight: 7 / This peculiar mollusking has the unusual ability to heal quickly while within its shell. It can make collecting them dangerous. It can also scale just about anything, though throwing Rock Pikmin at its head manages to knock it down.

Brittany's notes

It's just the oddest thing, this mollusking somehow manages to eat a species of plant that always disappears into the ground when I approach it. I suppose I'll have to try a slower approach.

Charlie's notes

If you throw Pikmin onto the top of its head, it has trouble shaking them off. It can be dangerous to carry it back and have it get back up when you're not looking, so be careful with it.

Attacks Eats Pikmin

Slithering Shallocks are molluskings in Pikmin: Infinite Exploration resembling sea snails that hide in their shells to disguise themselves as rocks and wait for Pikmin to unwittingly pass by. Slithering Shallocks attack by shooting out a sticky tongue and grabbing Pikmin. Occasionally, idle shallocks will peek their eyestalks out from under their shells or may even relocate and hide again. Once defeated, the shallock will withdraw into its shell to recover. The easiest way to defeat a Slithering Shallock is to trick it into consuming a bomb rock. If attacking head-on, lure the shallock into peeking out of its shell with a single Pikmin, then bombard the face with a large fleet of either Blue Pikmin or Red Pikmin, depending on which is available.

Notes

Olimar's notes

This medium-sized mollusking uses its highly developed shell to ambush prey by shallow ponds and streams.

Louie's notes

Rinse the shallock under warm water, remove moss from the shell and set aside as a decorative piece for the dish, pat shells dry with a towel, then set aside. In a small mixing bowl, combine the butter, shallots, garlic, parsley, and lemon juice. Mix ingredients thoroughly. Lightly season butter with salt and pepper, until desired taste is achieved.

Olimar's comments

PWW Captain Olimar icon.png The slithering shallock possesses a nigh-indestructible shell that it uses to defend itself from danger, by withdrawing into it and hiding until the coast is clear. Should its shell be somehow destroyed, its chances of survival become virtually impossible. It peacefully feeds on plant life, using its thousands of microscopic teeth to finely grind vegetation into very small pieces before swallowing them.

Shacho's comments

PWW President icon.png I was just thinking that maybe this creature's shell could be broken up and turned into a mosaic. I'm sure people back on Hocotate would clamor for some art made with it! But, it's so pretty...

Marie's comments

PWW Marie icon.png Slithering shallocks are rather passive creatures that need very little training and feed only on plant life, meaning their owners are at no risk of being eaten. Well, unless, of course, they're too close to what the creature is eating, but it is sure to spit them out after realizing what–or who, I should say–is in its mouth.

Louie's comments

PWW Louie icon.png Cook the creature in its shell with some salt and sugar for a marvelous sweet-and-salty shallock escargot! Just slurp it right from the shell.

Dolphin Lander's comments

PWW Dolphin Lander icon.png This mollusking is much different from other members of its family because it has a shell, a brilliantly colored one at that! I wonder what evolutionary paths led to its existence? It may very well have been the pikmin.
