Appearance in Pikmin 4, red 1-pellet.

A pellet is a crystallized chunk of nectar that contains vitamins and other nutrition. They are formed by Pellet Posies, and are sometimes present on the ground, though certain enemies can yield pellets as spoils upon death. Pellets are used to produce Pikmin, by bringing them to the Onion. There is one color of pellet per main Pikmin type, with few exceptions.

Pellets come in a variety of sizes, and a number is present atop each one, reflecting its weight. Pellets with the numbers 1, 5, 8, 10, and 20 exist, although 40-pellets can be seen in some Pikmin 1 prerelease footage, and some fanon media may have pellets with different numbers. If the color of the pellet matches the color of the Onion it is delivered to, that number of Pikmin is produced, the exception being the number 1, which creates two Pikmin. If not, only half that number, rounded up, will be ejected.

Pellets return in Pikmin 2... Again?. Aside from 1-, 5-, and 10-pellets, 20-pellets make a return, and there is a new addition of the rainbow pellet and the 100-pellet. Rainbow pellets produce Pikmin of a random type when delivered to the Master Onion, but are otherwise identical to other pellets. In the Death Den, a 100-pellet can be seen up close, but it is soon destroyed by the Mockwraith after it drops from the ceiling. Story Mode features only red, yellow, blue, and light gray pellets, as all four corresponding Pikmin types have their own Onions. Pellet colors featured in alternate game modes include purple, white, gray, pink, cyan, green, brown, lavender, black, orange, almond, and, exclusively to Timed Mode, periwinkle and aquamarine. The "rare" pellets always produce the Pikmin type their color is no matter if there are more Pikmin of another color carrying it, though if there are more Pikmin of its color carrying it, the rare pellet will give more seeds like other pellets. The white pellet is notable for having a black numeral, and the aquamarine pellets are made out of voxels, making their shape unique.

After completing the entirety of Story Mode, all pellets for all Pikmin types can be found in it.

Notes

Olimar's notes

Them being the crystallized nectar in a cylindrical shape like some sort of coin, I just decided to name them pellets. Every time the name comes up, the Ship begs me to rename them bottle caps, apparently to no end. Anyways, the pellets are used as the basic way to produce Pikmin when brought to the Onion, absorbing the object, it will eject a basic amount of Pikmin depending on the pellet's size. There are only three colors of pellets found so far. But now I wonder if there could be more colors of pellets. Just look, there are only three Onions, at least as I write this, and all other types don't have that same thing, but could the Master Onion produce those rare Pikmin? Who knows, maybe one time, I'll find out.

Louie's notes

I bet it's edible.

Hocotate Ship's notes

Because of the pellets' shape, bottlecaps would have been a great name for them, but apparently someone we already know decided that pellets were a much better name. Maybe, for once, I can be allowed to rename something, like pellets for instance.
