Most electrodes take the form of a simple electric circuit, consisting of a battery and an electrical device such as a light bulb, connected by two pieces of wire. One of the wires is usually severed, leaving a gap in the circuit. Some circuits can only be activated by completing circuits connected to them.

Because Yellow Pikmin can conduct electricity, they are able to complete an electrode's circuit. The first Pikmin directed towards it will grab one of the wire ends and stretch its other arm out. Any Pikmin that come next will join hands with the Pikmin next to them, or grab the other end of the electrode. When the final Pikmin is added, it will close the gap and the electrical current, starting the circuit and turning on the electrical device in the process. At this point, the Pikmin are longer required to feed the circuit with their bodies, as the gap between the two ends is occupied by an arc of electricity. This arc deals electrical damage to leaders, as do the wire ends prior to the connection. The Pikmin that jumpstarted the circuit will also be flowered once the current passes through them.

Electrodes can be used to light up areas, which can, in turn, cause different things to happen: light activates the Onions, makes Bloominous Stemples bloom, and stuns creatures such as the Vehemoth Phosbat with proximity.

Electrodes are a type of obstacle that take the form of a simple electric circuit consisting of two severed pieces of wire. Because Yellow Pikmin can conduct electricity, they can complete electrode circuits. Once an electrode circuit is completed, whatever the wires are attached to are powered, and the Pikmin no longer need to feed the circuit with their bodies, as the gap between the two ends gets filled with an arc of electricity flowing through the air.

In Hey! Pikmin, electrodes are parts of a thorny plant with magenta flowers that emit light when the electrode is closed. The flowers bloom while the Pikmin are conducting, but as soon as they detach, the flower closes again.

Electrodes are a returning obstacle in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. The small wires function and look the same as they did in Pikmin 3. The severed severed wires are initially nonfunctional, only emitting a few weak sparks. However, if the required amount of Yellow Pikmin stand between the severed wire ends and connect themselves, they will conduct electricity. This electricity will create an electric circuit between the wires, and flower the involved Yellow Pikmin. If enough electrodes are powered up, they can be used to light up large lightbulbs in the cave chamber they are in. The electrodes are mainly used in the Vehemoth Phosbat battle.

In Pikmin: Shipwrecked Stargazers, electrodes are found in Connoisseur's Cache, Desperado Ditch and Gladiator's Gulch. They come in two types that look vaguely identical: blue wires that act just like their Pikmin 3 incarnation, and red wires that slowly lose power without Yellow Pikmin. If the red variant loses enough power, it will shut off and any Bloominous Stemples opened by it will close.
