Appearance in Pikmin 2.
Scientific name Nocturnica illuminati
Family Glowcap

Glowstems appear to be relatives of the Common Glowcap, but in actuality, these tiny lights are light-emitting diodes. Despite the lack of insulation covering the live wires, Glowstems pose no electrical threat, nor any other kind, to Pikmin or leaders. Glowstems may have red or green lights.

In fanon games

Below this point is where users place their version of the Glowstem.

Notes

Olimar's observations

You know, on my last trip here, I was sure that these plants were indeed living things, but I'm not quite sure now. They almost seem like the glow they produce isn't natural.

Cookin' with Louie

Inedible. Known effects include uncontrollable episodes of impromptu break dancing.

Glowstems reappear as decorative plants in Pikmin: Dimensional Breach.

Notes

Olimar's observations

Initially misfiled as an organic plant, the Glowstem has since been discovered to be strictly mechanical. Samples taken of the stem have revealed rubber and pieces of metal, and the caps have been determined to be made of glass and crystal. I should probably warn Louie and the others not to consume it...

Louie's cookbook

Inedible. Known effects include uncontrollable episodes of impromptu break dancing.

Sagittarius' taming notes

Well, it's a plant. Or at least, it LOOKS like a plant. Dad says it's actually mechanical, and as cool as a robot plant sounds on paper, it'd probably be miserable paying for the electricity.

Libra's fashion guide

This mechanical plant carries with it a simple, yet effective design. Maybe a smaller-scale model of the device would look good on just about any form of clothing, from jackets to sneakers. Oh, the possibilities if we on Hocotate could build these in any color we needed!

Charlie's battle strategies

It's some kind of robot plant. It would make good target practice, but I'd rather not dwell on this contraption too much. I can't tell you how many times I've had to stop Brittany from trying to consume the plant, and each time she whines about how she's trying to conduct research. But I told her the same thing I said about the Quaggled Mireclops: the safety of my crew comes before their research, and we don't know where that thing's been.

Derrick's grimoire

The insides of the cap are best ground into a pulp, mixed with ultra-bitter nectar, and brought to a boil. When the mixture is steaming hot, take it off the heat and allow it to cool, to prevent burns. Once it has cooled, apply the mixture to the tips of bone needles, then pierce your own flesh with the needles. The hallucinogenic compounds in the glowstem cap will grant you visions of the future, while the paralytic ultra-bitter nectar will keep you from injuring or making a fool of yourself due to impromptu break dancing.
