Queen Candypop Buds are very unique Candypop Buds; they allow you to gain up to 8 Pikmin if you throw a single one of any color in. The flower's spots alternate between red, blue, and yellow, thereby presenting the player with an opportunity, with correct timing, to choose between receiving either 8 more blue, red, or yellow Pikmin. Nine Pikmin pop out; however, one was the Pikmin you originally threw in. The plant will wither after it is used. These flowers are found only in the specific sublevels of difficult caves, usually immediately before or after a particularly challenging boss battle. These areas are usually void of enemies, so they are sometimes referred to as 'rest stops'; they contain other such useful things as eggs and other types of Candypop Bud.
The Queen Candypop Bud appears in Pikmin 251. It retains the same behaviors from p2 but cycles between colors faster. It also produces only seven Pikmin, as opposed to nine. In older versions of the game, it was capable of also producing Purple Pikmin and White Pikmin in much the same way as it can produce Red Pikmin, Yellow Pikmin, and Blue Pikmin.

Queen Candypop Buds are far more common in Pikmin 2's Challenge Mode, mostly appearing where you start off with very few Pikmin, such as Breeding Ground, Hot House, and Hidden Garden.

This specimen constantly changes colors. When Pikmin are thrown into it, it shoots out seeds that match the flower's coloration the moment the Pikmin landed inside of it. The number of seeds shot out is always greater than the number of Pikmin thrown in. It can be said that this is a completely baffling plant, and many mysteries remain over precisely what sort of relationship it has with the Pikmin. It would appear that the Pikmin gain all of the benefit from the relationship... Perhaps it is simply a different variety of Pikmin to begin with?

The Queen Candypop Bud is a candypop bud from which up to nine Pikmin can be gained from a single one of any type thrown in. The Queen Candypop Bud appears in Pikmin 251. It retains the same behaviors from Pikmin 2 but cycles between colors faster. It also produces only seven Pikmin, as opposed to nine. In older versions of the game, it was capable of also producing Purple Pikmin and White Pikmin in much the same way as it can produce Red Pikmin, Yellow Pikmin, and Blue Pikmin.

Notes

Olimar's observations

The queen of all Candypop Buds is much different than the other ones from before. This kind allows us to turn one Pikmin into seven! If I recall correctly, on our last journey, the ones we found were able to make eight new Pikmin instead of seven. I wonder why they aren't as strong as they were before?

In Pikmin V, Queen Candypop Buds function differently, producing ten Pikmin of the kind that is thrown in, which can be any kind. They are also visually distinguished in their updated design, being glossier than other candypop buds and changing color lenticularly, shifting quickly between each of the nine Pikmin types in the game as the viewing angle changes. It is revealed in this game that candypop buds are a stage of Pikmin evolution that occurs immediately before the Onion, but it is only speculated how the Queen Candypop factors into this since it doesn't match a particular Pikmin type.

Notes

Brittany's notes

The most enigmatic of the Candypop Buds, as all of the other species have a corresponding Onion. It's possible that the Queen is an evolution that does not ever metamorphose, but at the same time, it's oddly similar to how Onions can combine with each other, which Olimar has told me was not the case during his first two visits.

Olimar's notes

Unlike other Candypop Buds, the Queen does not transform. Instead, it produces 10 Pikmin when one is thrown in, giving you 9 Pikmin for free. There's not really a reason not to use it unless you're low on time or have almost 100 Pikmin in the field already.

Louie's notes

This plant is the ingredient equivalent of too many cooks spoiling the broth. It has the properties of all the other Candypop Buds combined – and a strong, spicy, sour, sweet combination that's also tough and poisonous pleases no one instead of everyone.
