The Scornet Maestro resembles a queen bee of sorts, since it is able to command a swarm of Scornets, by strumming its harp-like beak, to attack the leaders and Pikmin. It can not be attacked while its swarm is surrounding it, requiring the leaders to do so when the swarm becomes absent after one of its coordinated attacks. The Scornet Maestro itself is harmless, especially while crawling helplessly on the ground after being knocked out of the air, and has no direct way of damaging Pikmin, but can shake them off. The Scornet Maestro can organize its Scornets into the following three formations, each aiming at the active leader: a cone, which fires in a straight line; a rectangle, which fires in rows; and lastly, a circle, which closes in around the target. All attacks by the Scornets have the same effect: the Pikmin caught in the attack will be held by the Scornets for a certain amount of time as they circle the Scornet Maestro, and if not freed, will be killed after a few seconds. If all the Maestro's Scornets are killed, it will use a period during which it would normally organize an attack formation to summon more onto the field. Once the creature is defeated, and all of the Scornets it commanded will instantly die and fall to the ground, able to be carried.

Hildegard is the Scornet Maestro that appears in Pikmin: Antarctic Survival. She is one of the wandering creatures of the Antarctic, and she begins to roam the Antarctic's areas after thirty days have passed. She travels in a circular pattern through every area except for the Chilly Valley, spending one day in each area except for the Wintry Warzone, where she can be found for three sequential days. Hildegard is always accompanied by her Scornet swarm, which consists of one hundred Scornets that obey her every command.

Due to Hildegard's massive Scornet swarm and flight abilities, she is one of the most challenging encounters in the whole of the Antarctic, with a strength nearly on the level of a tyrant due to the sheer numbers at her command. Resident creatures that can damage multiple targets at once and creatures that excel at fighting small enemies are nearly essential for this fight. Once the residents of the Diamond Settlement do manage to defeat and recruit Hildegard, she becomes a very strong asset to the team, as she is incredibly powerful alongside her swarm, and her and up to one hundred Scornets only count as two creatures for the purposes of a search party. The one downside to Hildegard is that she is unable to do much of anything without her Scornets, and these creatures can take a long time to be replenished if many of them are lost.

Hildegard speaks with a regal pattern of voice and desires to be seen and treated as the pinnacle of aristocratic authority. She is pleasant to those who treat her as the nobility she believes that she is, but immediately is prone to dislike those who do not respect her or will not yield to her authority. The way that Hildegard commands respect can be offensive to other creatures of the Diamond Settlement initially, though she will become less prideful and more pleasant as she spends more time in the Diamond Settlement, when she realizes her outrage is not getting her more respect.

Hildegard is named after Hildegard of Bingen, a learned polymath known for, among other things, being an influential composer of music. The Scornet Maestro shares this name due to her strong musical theming.

The Scornet Maestro resembles a queen bee of sorts since it can command a swarm of Scornets using its harp-like beak. This beak will even produce harp music when each attack is happening. The Scornet retinue is used to attack the leaders and their Pikmin. This boss relies entirely on its swarm to attack, possessing no offensive moves of its own besides shaking off Pikmin. If all the Maestro's Scornets are killed, it will use a period during which it would normally create an attack formation to summon more onto the field. It cannot be attacked while its swarm is surrounding it, requiring the leaders to aim their Pikmin at the boss after it exposes itself, after one of its coordinated attacks. Once defeated, the Scornet Maestro will drop any valuables it had ingested, and all 100 of the Scornets it commanded will instantly die and fall to the ground, able to be picked up.
The Scornet Maestro appears much the same in Pikmin: Dual Worlds as in p3, albeit with several differences. It commands up to 150 Scornets and 25 Scornet Guards, 200 Scornets and 50 Scornet Guards in ultra-spicy mode, to attack Pikmin instead of the active leader. If the number of Scornets remaining falls below fifty and the Scornet Maestro is not currently attacking, additional Scornets will enter the battlefield until there are fifty below maximum Scornets active. The same applies to the Scornet Guards, though only until there is the maximum present and only if all Guards are eliminated. In addition to the three main attacks, the "cone", "row", and "cinch", the Scornet Maestro has several new ones: its "spiral" attack features an array of Scornets on the edge of the arena moving low to the ground toward the center of the arena and then flying up into the air, disappearing offscreen; its "swirl" attack is essentially the exact opposite, as Scornets will fly down into the center of the arena and form a spiral as they move outwards and away; its "burst" attack features several small circles of Scornets descending around the arena and closing in on the center of the circle, skewering any Pikmin trapped within; its "arm" attack features a thick row of Scornets moving around the arena clockwise or counterclockwise; its "fountain" attack simply features it commanding an array of Scornets to fly randomly in the general direction of Pikmin after floating through the air for a bit; lastly, its "lane" attack simply features rows of Scornets dashing across the arena and leaving at the edges. Only its cone and row attacks are featured in the first phase. Once it gets down to three-quarters of its total health, it introduces the spiral and swirl attacks. At half-health, it introduces the burst, arm, and fountain attacks. At a quarter of its total health, it also begins to use the cinch attack. Above half-health, it won't protect itself, instead simply relying on the Scornet Guards to do so for it. Below half-health, it may begin slashing at Pikmin on its front side, though this can be ignored by attacking it from the sides or back.

The fight against the Scornet Maestro is the same as the one in Pikmin 3, except for the inclusion of Venomous Scornets, which poison Pikmin and leaders they sting. It also has less health but is still challenging, even with Winged Pikmin. The creature sends various formations of Scornets and Venomous Scornets towards leaders and their Pikmin, eventually opening itself up to attack once the scornets protecting it are gone. Once enough Pikmin are latched onto the Scornet Maestro, it plummets to the ground, helpless, and is at the mercy of every available Pikmin until its scornets return. More Venomous Scornets will be present the lower the Scornet Maestro's health is. Any Pikmin that are caught by the lesser scornets must be saved manually because the creatures kill them after a set amount of time. After the Scornet Maestro dies, it produces 25 and its remains can be retrieved and brought to the Lander Pod. Its corpse can either be used to gain 20 or be brought to the surface to gain thirty Pikmin seeds of any chosen discovered color from the Master Onion. The same applies to the now lifeless bodies of the scornets that fought alongside the Scornet Maestro and fell alongside it.

The Scornet Maestro appears in Pikmin: Wide World as the boss of Balmy Highlands's final den, Scornet Hive. On the den's final sublevel, the Scornet Maestro remains hidden from view until Captain Olimar, Shacho, Marie, and Louie approach the center of its large, hexagonal arena, where it swoops down towards them alongside many Scornets and Venomous Scornets, initiating the fight. Its arena is entered by having ten Winged Pikmin lift up a bamboo gate blocking the way.

Notes

Olimar's notes

I was entirely unaware scornets could construct such elaborate hives until we stumbled into one. The scornet maestro seems relatively unchanged from my last visit to this planet, still having the same appearance and exceptional leadership skills. Something new I have learned, however, is that it seems to be able to control more than just normal scornets. This shouldn't be surprising as they are just lesser scornets, but I am still very interested in what other scornet species we have as of yet to discover and if the scornet maestro can control them.

Shacho's notes

What a fantastic leader! This giant bee reminds me of myself, heh. Maybe I could hire one of these creatures so I'd never need to hire anyone else again!

Marie's notes

It's super difficult to tame a scornet maestro, but it seems like it's possible to at least befriend it... to a degree. It's a cold, uncaring creature that prioritizes itself over others and will always work hard to get its way as it won't settle for anything less. So, I wouldn't recommend at all having one as a pet.

Louie's notes

Pluck the feathers and remove the fuzz covering its body, removing the beak and eyes afterward. The beak should be discarded, but the eyes should be kept and cooked along with the meat. Place the meat into the oven, basting occasionally, until it is done for an enjoyable dinner.

Dolphin Lander's notes

According to Louie, this isn't the first time a scornet maestro has been seen, fought, and defeated on this planet. As it turns out, a trio of explorers from another planet close to Hocotate took one out to save him!
