The Waddlepus is an enemy encountered in Pikmin 3. Waddlepi are small, purple octopus-like creatures with several yellow pores covering their back. They have green eyes and small O-shaped mouth that hides a large yellow pore. The Waddlepus is also an aquatic enemy and can be encountered underwater as well as on land.
The Waddlepus is a returning enemy that appears in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. The creature is mainly found around tropical areas, primarily in the Enchanted Shore and its respective caves. Despite its naming, it resembles a large, purple, abnormal starfish covered in scales. Along the edges of the body, including the eyes and mouth, a lighter pink lining of soft skin outlines the creature, with the underbelly of the Waddlepus being completely pink. Numerous yellow orifices are present on top of the Waddlepus, with the same yellow color found in its mouth. The creature also has two large, bulbous eyes with green sclerae and sharp, black pupils. The head of the Waddlepus can be expanded to an extreme size, causing the creature to double in height and appear much more menacing than it actually is.

Waddlepi are generally calm enemies. They are always found sleeping and wake up only when Pikmin or a Leader is nearby. Once disturbed, the Waddlepus will inflate itself and slowly waddle towards the captain and their Pikmin. If Pikmin are latched onto the Waddlepus when it inflates, they will be thrown off. Once inflated, the Waddlepus can then shoot out a stream of bubbles from either its mouth or from its pores on its back. These bubbles do not harm Pikmin, but rather trap them and Captains inside. The bubbles will eventually pop, but the player can prematurely pop the bubbles by throwing a Pikmin at them.
Waddlepi can be found sleeping near bodies of water. Attacking, touching, or damaging it can cause it to wake up. Simply walking too close to the creature can also cause it to awaken from its sleep. Once awoken, the Waddlepus will begin to waddle around. If it feels threatened, or if it is attacked by a Pikmin or captain, it will expand its head to an extreme size. The Waddlepus will then rush towards the nearest group of Pikmin, proceeding to blow out dozens of bubbles at its attackers. It will emit a large cluster of bubbles from its mouth and numerous bubbles from the orifices located on the top of its head. These bubbles will trap any Pikmin they touch. As it releases these bubbles, it will slowly begin to deflate its head. Once finished, the Waddlepus will take a few seconds to rest, allowing for an opening to attack. If Pikmin are gone after it's finished resting, it will return to its arena and go back to its slumber. If not, then it will re-expand its head and continue its attacks. If too many Pikmin are swarming the creature from different directions, the Waddlepus will begin to shake, suddenly spraying out ink from the top of its head. The ink will rain all over Pikmin, acting like a hazard that chokes them until whistled.

Defeating a Waddlepus is quite easy, as it is not threatening on its own. However, if paired with nearby hazards, other enemies, or even bottomless pits, it can scatter the squad all over the place and put stray Pikmin in danger. Any Pikmin type can take out the Waddlepus, although some types have more of an advantage. Mainly, Weighted Pikmin cannot be taken by bubbles due to their weight. Along with this, Dart Pikmin and Cactus Pikmin will pop any bubbles they get trapped in due to their sharp nature. Winged Pikmin can also be sent to deal with these bubbles. Once defeated, the creature will expel dozens of bubbles before shriveling up and flipping over.
